Farewell (but not really)...

Hi guys!

I’ve been running this blog since I was a sophomore in high school, and it’s been around 7 years since I first started. It’s been a wild ride, but I think it’s time to retire the Tumblr -- I just don’t think this website is the place for the origami community that it once was.

That being said, I definitely have not stopped folding origami! If you still would like to follow my work, you can find me on Flickr or on my new Instagram.

Thank you all for your support over all these years, and keep on folding!

Nouveau designed by Joel Cooper | reverse engineered | folded by

It’s been a while, and I’ve been very busy getting ready to graduate this spring (hard to believe considering I started this blog during high school). This was my winter break project, and is a design I’ve wanted to do for a while.

Any good sources(even books) to learn how to read crease patterns?

Avatar

I’ve never been that good at reading crease patterns for anything other than tessellations, but I previously got help answering this question in another post set: http://paperphiliac.tumblr.com/post/120132859489/better-advice-for-crease-patterns.

I sort of began to intuitively understand how to fold a tessellation from a crease pattern just by folding so many of them, so my best advice would be to just keep practicing!

For your larger pieces, what type of paper do you use? Do you cut paper yourself, or can you buy pre-cut sheets that large? I love and truly admire your work!

Sorry it may have taken a while to get to questions--I’ve been super busy lately! For my largest tessellations I use a large roll of kraft paper (around 30″ tall)  I bought from Amazon and cut it into squares and hexagons. For some specialized pieces I cut my squares/hexagons out of large rolls of elephant hide or glassine (purchasable from kimscran.com), which was the case for the tessellated dodecagons.

Square Tessellations of Dodecagons designed by Alessandro Beber | instructions | folded by

I actually bought the booklet a couple of years back and never folded anything because I didn’t think I could figure out the crease pattern, and look at me now.
