hey do you have any BAMF elena fanfic recommendations? i feel like the line between elena’s compassion and her willingness to do anything to keep her loved ones safe and to win, the tenacity of all that is such a fine line. i often find elijah/elena fics where elena is just a bleeding heart and she’s obviously very compassionate and has value for life but there’s so much more to her than that. power playing with the originals, hurting herself to achieve her goals, doing anything necessary to keep jeremy safe- even if it means having him compelled- i was hoping for some fanfiction which recognises that. i’ve read quite a few of yours and i enjoy a lot of them immensely so even if you have any recommendations along those lines, i would be grateful. xx
This ask lead me to just looking through which new stories had Elena in them and so many include the "Elena Bashing" tag, which...thanks for warning me I guess?
Anyway, since I started writing, it has become increasingly more difficult to read new fics and I'm absolutely certain I'm missing some gems out there. So feel free, anyone, to add onto this list with their own 5 (Even if it's your own!)

The Stars Were Shining Brightly by adlyb (@livlepretre)
This is a really fun fic. The outwitting that Elena displays here to find herself on solid ground with Klaus. Leveraging her wits and cunning against his implicit power. It's very good. I'd also recommend diving into Fairytale Ending afterwards or any number of her other fics. The rest can be thematically a bit darker, but honestly - it tracks with a girl willing to stab herself over and over again to achieve her goals.
All Your Closets are Backlogged Dreams by IJustWoundYou (not on tumblr, but I would lose my mind if they were)
I found this one through a rec and just consumed it. Now I eagerly await new chapters. Multiple Elenas from multiple dimensions and time periods all conspiring together to save this universe's Elena from their fates. It's wonderful. It has a Klaus/Elena tag, but the relationship I'm enjoying so far the most is the friendship with Tyler. This writer only has this fic online, but like a good musical artist, the moment they drop a new single, I'll be there.

This writer is imbued with some kind of imagery poetic goddess and you can't convince me otherwise. A lot of focus on Elena rejecting things society wants for her in favor of what she wants for herself and Elijah is there. No-humanity era given space to grieve and heal and taking no prisoners. The epitome of "covered in blood just girly things". This writer has other Elena-centric fics that I'd also recommend.

This is only two chapters in but the premise is amazing already. A heavy focus on the friendship between Bonnie, Caroline and Elena and the girls rejecting the toxins in their lives in favor for each other. I am so excited for any new chapters to come out and see how they all manage to navigate expelling the Salvatores from their lives.
I'll also add that this writer does a lot with OCs who are intriguing, fleshed out and unique. They have one fic that got me hooked, Lover's Prelude. It takes Elena a minute to come into her own, but when she does, it makes an impact.

Another Klaus/Elena fic rec, but honestly I think it's because you have to write Elena in a certain way if she's to get together with Klaus. She can't be a shrinking flower and that is absolutely the case with this fic. There's a scene, which I won't spoil, where Elena is cleaning up a mess that mirrors a lot of the vibes of the show that I adore. Elena, alone at night, dealing with something she absolutely shouldn't be but is. Definitely check out this writer's other stuff too. Make It Holy (a Klena time jump fic), Difference (a Kolena morally grey fic) and Cosmic Love (an Elejah, breaking him free fic).
I forgot to add a few recs so here we are.
Certain Dark Things by twocankeepasecret (I’m not sure if they’re on Tumblr)
This fic is probably one of the first Klena fics I read on AO3 and it has a special place in my heart. The author is one of the best at getting Klaus’ character just right. But Elena holds her own beautifully in this despite her fear and trepidation. While Klaus is up to his usual machinations and is extremely diabolical, Elena is changing, learning to weird everything she has in her arsenal to defend those that she loves and does it without raising Klaus’ suspicion. This story focuses more on her manipulation and makes her a character to be reckoned with.
But Still Like Dust I’ll Rise by twocankeepasecret (I’m a fan)
This fic is set in S2 of The Originals, and as such Elena meets an extremely different Klaus here. He’s still who he was at his core, but the pain of losing Hope has made him somewhat softer. This also has extremely well written doppelgänger lore (which I won’t spoil), the likes of which I haven’t seen in any other fic.
This fic is truly one of a kind. The Elena in this is a BAMF, and isn’t afraid to show it. She’s a little darker, a little twisted, but all she’s trying to do is heal from all the trauma she’s gone through and control her powers. This fic is more focused on Elena as character rather than her ships, but I think if you want to read a fic with BAMF Elena, then this should be at the top of the list.
She’s Come Undone and Set Free by Terapsina (@terapsina)
It’s kind of a low hanging fruit to recommend this gem, because of how insanely good and popular it is. But I’ll do it anyway, because it’s a masterpiece. It focuses so much on Elena’s healing and Caroline’s as well, along with their revenge.
Another low hanging fruit because of how great it is, but this fic is also amazing and gives so much room for Elena to grow and grieve. She’s caught playing a game she doesn’t necessarily want to be in, and she’s got her work cut out for her. But through everything she goes through, she grows and changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but always in a way that helps her survive and take control of her life. This fic is also extremely well written and well paced, making it a pleasure to read.
There are many more I wanna add, but I think this is it for now.

Ok, but if you’re an independent contractor in the US and this happens? Find a lawyer, because you might have just gotten a huge payday.
Your position was just referred to as employment. Independent contractors do not have employers; they do not have employment. Congrats, your contact at this company just provided evidence that you were illegally missclassified.
This contact is claiming that you have set hours you’re obligated to fulfill. Unless a work task can only be done at a set time for practical reasons (i.e. you’re an audio freelancer paid to support a live event that occurs at a particular time and requires a certain amount of pre-show setup), a company cannot set an independent contractor’s work hours. This is further evidence that you were missclassified.
The whole exchange establishes that the company is interpreting an employer-employee relationship rather than expecting a service. Discipline and potential for firing (you cannot fire an independent contractor; no longer purchasing their service is not equivalent) establish that this person views themselves as a manager. Independent contractors cannot have managers.

You can also file a form with the IRS to force the company to correct your classification (assuming you meet the criteria), without necessarily having to sue:
Keep in mind that this is just federal. Most states also prohibit missclassification as an independent contractor; and even if states have more lenient rules, companies still have to comply with this federal law. The rules have largely been bipartisan and existed for decades, so they’re common.
States also have an interest in having regulations about missclassification: it’s a significant loss of tax revenue. Your self employment tax does not fully equal what a company would have paid for you in payroll taxes.
A lawyer can help point you in the right direction if a company is currently missclassifying you.

I am a sucker for these MDC fics. They always seem to guarantee BAMF!Marinette which I am a huge fan of, especially in the face of Lie-la. This one contains an especially satisfying Lila downfall.
i don’t know who needs to hear this, but here it goes: you don’t have to repeatedly and harshly punish yourself for every little thing you think you do wrong. you don’t have to diminish or eliminate your worth and dignity in order to become a better person and acknowledge your mistakes. please forgive yourself, please keep going and please, be flawed! perfection is unattainable.
