A QUICK NOTE:

Hi friends! Taking a page out of @pixelnrd’s blog, I wanted to type up a much-belated introduction and disclaimer to this blog ahead of my story starting back up May 1. So, without further ado—

The Shakhovskoy family was originally began in summer of 2019. Their stories, as well as the kingdom of Krasnoyarsk, take heavy nods from Imperial Russia. Though I do not intend here to recreate any individual belonging to the Houses of Romanov, Windsor, or Hohenzollern, you will undoubtedly see similar storylines. If you feel anything I am writing is it any point too close to reality for your liking, I am happy to accept constructive feedback.

I am not a monarchist. I won’t go into my political beliefs beyond that here (mainly because I am almost positive none of you followed this blog to hear what I think), but this blog is in no way meant as an endorsement of absolute monarchies, as is found in Krasnoyarsk, nor any sort of monarchy.

And as for content- though this blog will never pass the point of PG-13, there are several sensitive themes in this blog that either have been or will be dealt with by the Shakhovskoys. All posts with sensitive subjects in them will be marked with a trigger warning directly below the title. Those themes include, but may not be limited to:

  • child death
  • miscarriage
  • classism
  • religious overtones
  • war, military involvement, etc.
  • assassination
  • major/minor character deaths

With all that said, I’d like to say another thank you to all 507 of you for your continued support and patience with me & this blog. Much love and thanks, and I’ll see you back in May!

As an introverted, shy, overthinker I have struggled with how to engage with other simblrs. Every time I would try to send and ask or comment on a post, I would delete it because I felt it sounded ingenuine or dumb. I wanted to engage with the community but I didn’t know how to do it.

Also, I knew that the community would benefit from the engagement. The more we engage, the more we learn about each other, each other’s stories, build relationships, and build an overall fulfilling community. And I knew that I wanted to contribute to that.

Through trial and error and stepping out of my comfort zone I feel a bit more comfortable and confident with sending asks and comments. For those of you that might be in a similar boat as I, I have summarized some of the tricks I used to help!

Start with low hanging fruit!

  • Ask challenges - Every so often an ask challenge gets shared across the community. These are a lot of fun both to do and to read. They are usually set up in a way that makes it easy to send an ask and engage with them.
  • Requests for feedback - Some writers will post questions either in a post or as a hashtag. This is them telling you, their reader, that they want your input!
  • Compliments! Compliments! Compliments! - EVERYONE LOVES A COMPLEMENT! Compliments are free and you can give out as many as you want!

Story questions!

  • Comment on a specific character, post, plot, etc. - If you have a reaction to something, share it with the writer! They are probably hoping their readers would react that way so they’ll appreciate the reaction. While you can have a negative reaction to something (i.e. dislike a character’s actions), keep your comment free of criticism (unless they are specifically asking for it).
  • Character building or world building questions - If you don’t know what to ask that is specifically related to their story, send them a character or world building question! These are super fun and help the writer learn more about their character! Here are lists of some Character building and world building questions.

Last Points!

  • It’s okay to be a Nonny - The best way I found to get more comfortable sending asks was to send them anonymously. If you are overthinking the post, asking it on anonymous takes the pressure off of you to make sure it's “good.” Every ask I’ve stressed over and sent anonymously has gotten a positive response!
  • Relax and have fun with it! - Interacting with others should be something fun, not stressful. Do what what you want, say what you want, and just have fun!
  • Step outside your comfort zone!

BREAKING: HIH GRAND DUCHESS MARGOT LEAVES FOR THE WINDEN TERRITORIES!

A press release from the Tsarevich’s office confirmed that Grand Duchess Margot is to further her education in the Winden Territories, under the guidance of King William and Queen Maria-Therese. The Grand Duchess’ Mother, HIH the Tsaraevna, accompanied her daughter to the plane this morning along with an entourage of five staff persons and two Krash soldiers. They will accompany the Grand Duchess during her time abroad.

“We are, of course, very excited for the opportunity [Grand Duchess] Maria will have to study in a new and exciting place. Our alliance with the Winden Territories is one of the corner stones of our diplomatic position, and we are deeply pleased to see that continue into the next generation,” read a statement from HIM The Empress.

This news comes on the heels of the announcement of Grand Duke Andrey’s enrollment in the Imperial Air Force Training Corps. The exact location of his stationing is not public, but it is confirmed to be outside of Krash territory.

WHILE understanding that a hereditary ruling class is a fuck-stupid thing to have IRL, I have no intention of leaving off reading and writing about secondary-world nobles and/or royalty. It lets you elevate family drama to extremely weird levels and really raise the stakes on questions of obligation, tradition, inheritance, and being tied into a job you actually might fucking suck at. Feels like all my life I’ve been seeing finger-wagging about how it’s more virtuous to write about regular folks, and how dumbass fantasy fans just project themselves onto princes and princesses because they’re in denial that their ancestors did physical labor, and I’m like, “irrelevant. Sometimes you just want to see sibling rivalry escalate to stabbings”
