“Hey!” Fire huffed in disapproval as he fidgeted with the egg until he had it secure enough in one arm to have a free hand, and righted his cap again, shooting Green an offended glare. He was unable to suppress a smile though, which ruined the look somewhat, but it didn’t bother him too much.
“Alright then, let’s go. It’ll be just like old times!” He nodded towards the door.

He snorted at the other’s reaction, finding it rather funny how Fire acted the way he did. It was comical, really, to see his friend act all childish over something so... trivial. But was that a bad thing? No, not really.  He nodded in response to Fire’s answer, patting his pockets to make sure he had everything, in his case his wallet, his phone, and his keys to his house. Upon confirming that those three items were in his pockets, he headed towards the door, holding it open for Fire. “After you.”

“Now?” Fire asked, though it was more of an offer than a question. He hugged the egg close to his chest and smiled at Green. “Know a good place to go? I haven’t been back here in a while, so I don’t know if anything’s changed.”

He ran his fingers through his hair, a shrug coming from the male. “Sure, the sooner the better, I say.” He smirked again, playfully grabbing the rim of Fire’s hat and tilting it downwards so the other was blinded momentarily. “Yeah, there’s a few places around here that have some good deals on trainer gear, so I’d suggest checking those out.”

Fire shook his head at Green’s joke, laughing. “Aww, that’s too bad, I was just thinking I need a new hobby!” He grinned. "And a backpack sounds like a great idea, though I'll have to buy a new one since I need this one here for my things already. I could use the occasion to buy other supplies I’ll need too…“
"Hey Green, do you want to come with me if you’re not too busy? You can make sure I don’t forget anything.”

He jokingly punched Fire’s shoulder, a smirk on his face. “It’s always good to have a backup anyways.” He said with a shrug.

“Er, me, come with you?” He blinked, averting his gaze to ponder the question. “Ah, sure. I’m done with the gym today and I was just gonna go home and spend some time brushing Angel, but I can do that later.”

“Thank you,” Fire said, sincerity in his voice as he took back the egg. He tapped his fingers against the surface much like he’d seen Green do earlier, and indeed, he could feel the pokémon inside move in response, knocking against the shell from the other side almost as though it was returning his greeting.
He drummed a short rythm on the egg’s shell and then waited as the Pokémon inside responded in kind. He couldn’t contain a laugh at that. “Hey Green, I think we might have a smart one here.”

A hand was rested on Fire’s shoulder, Green’s emerald gaze boring into Fire’s own; determination filling the Gym leader’s eyes. A gentle squeeze from Green as a crooked smile seeped its way onto his face. “No problem, now remember, now would be a good time not to take up gardening.: He said it in a joking manner.

“They are very intelligent Pokemon, those Larvitar...” The hand was lifted from Fire’s shoulder, only to have Green gently stroke his chin in thought. “You know if you wanted to keep it close and out of sunlight, a backpack is a nice option to carry it around.”

“Are you feeling something?” Fire asked, grin widening the slightest bit. “There’ve sometimes been noises coming from inside lately, so I’m thinking it might hatch soon.” He snapped the journal closed, satisfied with the information he’d gotten. It wasn’t much but it was important. Anything else could be researched along the way.
The book disappeared back where it came from and Fire turned his attention back to the egg still in Green’s hands. He reached out and brushed his fingers against the shell and, in a rare moment of openness, said “Do you think this’ll work out?”

He nodded to the question, “Yes, it moves around in response to me drumming on the shell gently. It must mean it could hatch at any given day.” He gently handed it back to Fire, another nod coming from him. “Of course it’ll work out, the Pokemon inside will be strong and loyal. You’re gonna do fine.”

(I think for the most part everything relevant is up on the blog. Theme is set up, but don’t know how to get rid of that Rules link. It doesn’t work and the rules are linked elsewhere...)

“I should be able to do that,” Fire said, flipping open the notebook and starting to write down some notes. “I’ve never raised a pokémon from an egg before. I hope the little one will get along well with the rest of the team.”
“Oh, if Larvitar usually live underground, should I keep them out of bright light? At least until they’re a bit older?” He looked up at Green holding the egg and grinned. “You know, you look good with that.”

“I’ve never raised a Pokemon from an egg before either, but I did find Angel when she was a young eevee, so I guess it’s sorta similar?” He shrugged, his fingers gently drumming against the egg, causing the Pokemon inside to respond to the movement. He let out a chuckle in response. He nodded as the question, “If you want to keep the young one away from direct sunlight for a bit it might be a good idea.” He kept his composure at Fire’s comment about him looking good holding the egg, despite him being a tad flustered at the comment, he played it cool. “I’m good with Pokemon.”

“Well…” He cracked a small smile thinking about raising his Tyranitar from a Larvitar. “They tend to be shy and try and scare away people they don’t know, so try to expect that.” He folded his arms across his chest, “I remember Gramps saying once that they’re born deep underground, and they consume soil in order to grow, so a heavy soil diet would help them grow. Plus you’d have to prove to them that you’re a strong trainer, since Tyranitar can tend to be violent, and normally don’t listen to trainers they don’t deem worthy…”

Fire smiled as he listened to Green with interest. “That last part sounds familiar.” He laughed softly. “I had that problem with Hydreigon when he evolved. I wasn’t prepared for it then, so it’s good to know what to look out for now. Oh-”

He shoved the egg into Green’s hands, careful so as not to damage it, and started digging around in his bag. “Hold this for a second please, I should- ah, here it is.” He pulled out a small blue notebook and pencil. “Soil, you said?”

“If you’re not careful, even the Pokemon you’re closest to can turn on you if they think  you’re not a strong enough trainer.” He said, frowning. He had encountered that problem with Charizard when he first evolved. The fire types always tended to be a little more difficult to train, and he made the mistake of turning his back on one. The scars on his back were proof; taking a slash attack, and having to go to the hospital.  He was handed the egg and noted how the creature inside moved around, causing the egg to wiggle in his grasp. The Larvitar was close to hatching, he just knew it. “Yes, soil, it’s pretty much their entire diet, though berries always tend to help them grow as well, figure out what sort of berries it likes and go from there.” He nodded.

A brow was cocked in slight surprise as the egg was presented to him, a hand reaching out to touch the smooth shell’s surface. The Pokemon inside was sure to be a handful.  “Yeah, I’ve raised Tyrant up from a Larvitar. What’s up?” He was curious as to what the other trainer wanted from him.

“I wanted to ask if you had some pointers on how to raise this one. What to feed them, anything special I should watch out for behaviour-wise… I tried reading up on the species, but I couldn’t find much, and I want to give this little one the best treatment possible.”

“Green, can I have a moment?” Fire awkwardly held out the Larvitar egg in his care, presenting it to Green. “You raised a Tyranitar, if I remember that right?”
