I’m back!

Hi all! It’s been over six years since I’ve posted on this blog. But I’m shaking the dust off and returning to Tumblr because the vibes on my internet home of the past few years (Twitter) are bad!!

If you already follow this account, you may know me by my previous blog title alisonisthegreateststar, where I was a big ol’ fandom account posting mostly about the TV series Orphan Black (my very last post before this was celebrating Tatiana Maslany’s Emmy 🥲)

But, a lot has changed in the past six years and I’m hoping to repurpose this space to be a more general blog for myself and my work today (though, let’s be real, fandom Mel will back an appearance or two I’m sure.) I’m not leaving Twitter (you can follow me there @ intothemelwoods) but I’m excited about having fun online again with community, and that’s what Tumblr’s all about.

With that in mind, a bit of an introduction, or reintroduction, if you will....

Hi! It’s me, the same Mel who posted Clone Club book clubs and gay fanfiction and so so many selfies that looking back now are pretty cringe. Reading back through my archive it’s both wild how different of a person I was when I started this blog, and how much I am also still the same. I considered cleaning out my archive but honestly my cringe posts are part of my past and my future. Let the cringe live on!

Some key things to know about me now, whether you’re a longtime follower or fellow rediscoverer of Tumblr:

  • I’m based on the west coast of Canada and work full-time as a senior editor at an LGBTQ2S+ digital magazine—and TBH so much of my work now is informed by the years I spent here as a fandom blog
  • I’m trans-masc and non-binary and my pronouns are they/them! That’s new and fun and cool since I was last here! Connecting with other trans folks on Tumblr is definitely a big reason for my return!
  • I live with my partner of two and a half years and our two awful cats who I will post so many pictures of
  • I still love queer TV, but have also grown a deep appreciation in recent years for Magic: The Gathering and I play competitively!

If you’re an OG alisonisthegreateststar follower, thanks for sticking around even though I didn’t post for so long! You can expect a bit less fandom posting, a bit more personal stuff, and reblogging/writing about queer media and pop culture in general.

If you’re someone who knows me out in the real world or hopped over from Twitter, expect much of the same there, but a bit more casual vibes. While I’ll share some of my work here and post about queer media etc., this isn’t like my “work Tumblr” or anything.

My goal in coming back is to reconnect with some old community (if you’re a mutual from the old days, definitely say hi!) and build some new community.

So let’s try it out and see how it goes!

One year post-op top surgery ✨

On Jan. 24, 2022 I had double-incision top surgery with no nipple grafts with Dr. McKee in Vancouver. Last week I had my nips tattooed at Studio Sashiko in Langley, BC.

Thrilled with my results, grateful to be in a position to access affirming, accessible and free trans health care, and grateful every day to live in and love my body and myself ☺️

[image description: a retro upa-styled digital drawing of two people roller skating, done in the colors of the trans flag. the first person is thin with short, shaggy, side-shaved hair, many piercings, and some stubble. they are wearing a jacket and some jeans, and their top surgery scars are visible. they look happy and are waving at the viewer. the second person has a short dark-colored bob and is wearing glasses. they have visible arm hair and are wearing a crop top with matching shorts. they are leaning over in an elaborate skating move. behind the two is a wavy trans flag, and above them is text that says "transsexuals have more fun!". end id]

it's true!

I need nothing in this life like I need Carly Rae Jepsen to cover Everytime We Touch
