I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️

And spreading their joy. You can see how happy they are in that moment. This always makes me smile.

It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.

  • Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
  • There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
  • Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
  • The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
  • There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
  • The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
  • Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
  • Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

traveled on @amtrak-official for the first time today… trains my beloved no one make me do airplanes ever again

Your first train is truly a once in a lifetime experience

I truly, genuinely wish there was a train from Kansas to Michigan so I could visit my family without flying or having to drive for two days (or drive straight through for like 18 hours). I hate flying. It gives me so much anxiety.

But a train? Sounds amazing. I've never been on one but I want to, the way some people who've never flown want to get on a plane.

You will all be overjoyed to know that this was apparently a commercial pattern… in like 1993. If you can find the out of print booklet, this glorious specimen of fashion can be yours.

I sure did!

And for my fellow crocheters, the terror fish design is fully charted, so you can jump right in.

In mid-January 2023, my temporary contract with my employer ran up and I was laid off. Since then, I have applied to over 140 jobs. I know the number because I have to track and report all of my applications in order to get unemployment benefits.

Most jobs didn't call or email back. Only a handful called to do an interview. Only one place hired me in late March for what seemed like a simple payroll/data entry position, and within a week, I realized it was a pyramid scheme. I came down with a bad flu the next week, and while I was recovering, I was fired via text.

I don't remember where I heard this, but it was said that many of these jobs aren't actually hiring at all, and they're putting out bogus applications on job sites to make investors think they're a big, growing company worth investing in. I can't help but feel like there's truth to it.

I can cite the whole Fake Listings thing for you. It is true.

About between 1-in-4 and 1-in-3 job listings in the US are just fucking fake. A combination of identity theft scams, attempts to prove growth to investors, and attempts to suppress labour complaints by understaffed and overworked employees.

Here's the Wall Street Journal article:

And here's the no paywall version on reddit:

I sent out SO many applications and got so few interviews I could count them on one hand. When I actually GOT to the interview stage, I usually advanced pretty quickly.

A few jobs ended up having to shelve the position for various reasons. A couple ended up going with someone else. And the others actually proceeded to the offer stage.

But this was after MONTHS of applying and hearing NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING. Several times I was told that they “selected other candidates”, only for the position to pop up AGAIN the next week! Once job did this THREE TIMES.

This should ABSOLUTELY be illegal. These places ask for basically a fucking essay before you can submit an application. It is literally taking away time and effort that could be directed at places that would actually have a chance of hiring you.

I applied to hundreds of jobs over the course of years and got one legitimate interview, which immediately got me hired.

The application process is a sham.

#i remember looking for a job as a teenager and then again in my early 20s#the whole time i had my mom getting mad at me and saying i was lazy or not trying hard enough or lying about actually applying#because almost none of the applications resulted in an interview#but i was applying to at least a dozen jobs a day (because applications took forever to fill out)#i applied to jobs i didnt even have the skills for#it took me 8 months to get my first job#and a year and a half in my 20s after i was laid off and had to find a new job#literally the only reason i got that second job was because it was at my grandmas church and they felt bad for me#so they gave me a part time job as a janitor#it took almost another year of constant searching to get a full time job and THAT was again because i knee someone in the right place#and after i was fired from that place (along with most of the rest of the admin staff for bs reasons)#i only got the temp assignment that led to my current job because the lady at the temp office remembered me from my last job#where we had used that temp agency and she had liked me when id spoken to her#so she gave me a good assignment#literally i have gotten every single job because ive known people and gotten lucky#hundreds of job applications did nothing#and its bullshit#and 6 figure pay my ass#i made minimum wage at my first two jobs and barely above that at my third one#it wasnt until my current job that i started making double digits per hour#and i still never see anything that might be legit and not require experience go above 9 or 10 bucks an hour#ive been at my job 8 years and gotten at least one raise a year since starting but im still not making 6 figures and i never will
