“I hate you,” Andrew said casually. He took a last long drag from his cigarette and flicked it off the roof. “You were supposed to be a side effect of the drugs.” “I’m not a hallucination,” Neil said, nonplussed. “You are a pipe dream,” Andrew said. “Go inside and leave me alone.”

11. You’ve said you’re going to leave, but I don’t want you to go and if I don’t say something now…

It’s harder than Andrew would like to admit that he has a hard time living without Neil. For four years, they were only a handful of minutes away from each other, and from the start Neil has been one of the only people Andrew really trusts enough to open up to.

Fuck, being away from Palmetto in general is hard. Andrew settles into his new pro team fairly quickly, and he likes his new apartment enough, but it’s difficult. His support systems are gone, and while the people he relied on still can be reached by phone, he struggles.

He assumes Neil already knows how hard things are, since he’s going through something similar, so Andrew doesn’t bother mentioning it. A couple of months pass before he truly realizes how bad he has gotten.

i'll love you forever if you do andriel and prompt 1 please

  1. I have you shoved against the wall but now I can’t stop looking at your mouth

It’s the middle of July, and Neil and Andrew have taken off, escaping the hectic schedule of exy practice Kevin was trying to institute for some well deserved vacation time. Since the summer in South Carolina is exceedingly hot, the two decided to make their way up the east coast.

Andrew drives most often, which is more than fine with both of them, and also means that he resolutely does not stop the car or get off the highway the entire time they drive through Maryland. He can sense how Neil shifts in the passenger seat, uncomfortable as soon as they cross state lines, so he speeds as much as he can until they reach the New Jersey border.

“You can stop if you want,” Neil finally says, glancing over at the dashboard. They’re not close to being out of gas, but they could probably use to stop for the night in the next couple of hours.

Andrew gives him a look, half-raising one eyebrow. He doesn’t comment on it, since Neil is perfectly capable of judging his own mental state, so he pulls off at the next exit that displays signs for hotels. They book one quickly and without issue, but since the sun has only just began to set and they haven’t left the car in hours, they quickly head out in the search for food.

They’re walking, because the heat isn’t unbearable anymore and there are a bunch of restaurants close by, and it’s nice. Andrew isn’t really thinking about much in particular, so he’s truly taken by surprise when Neil grabs his shoulder hard and shoves him into an alleyway.

Andrew doesn’t like being touched without permission. Neil knows this. Neil is one of the best people at respecting Andrew’s personal space, so it only takes Andrew a second to swallow his discomfort because he knows that if Neil is pushing him against a brick wall, then something has happened.

honestly nora saying andreil never get married is so dumb theres no way in hell andrew overprotective possessive bastard minyard wouldnt do anything to assure that, when neil inevitably lands himself in the hospital playing stickball, he can stand by neil and scare everyone attending to him to death. also theyre practical ppl who would want the benefits of being married. plus they may not be romantic but u Kno they both enjoy a good promise and legal marriage is the Ultimate Promise

YOU’RE RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT

like listen,, I get why it would be easy to look at people who have this young, intensely personal, externally standoffish, slow-growing relationship and assume that love and marriage aren’t going to stick to that kind of material

but being difficult and unorthodox doesn’t = rejecting devotion and symbolism, the things that keep them sure-footed and together from book 1

like certainly they love each other without having to prove it, but do you think the boys who exchange keys and armbands, who save the spot next to them on the couch or open up the driver’s seat as grand trusting gestures, wouldn’t want a paper that says ‘this is for good, this is how much I want this, it’s scary that we are going to live long enough to change and fade, but this promise will not

their relationship has always been rooted in action, they’re extremely tactile, they say exactly what they want out loud because they trust nothing more than the explicitness of language

of course they start to understand the way love looks and feels too, they recognize forever because the world keeps turning around them and they don’t even notice, which wouldn’t be happening if they were apart

but they still like to be able to see what they can feel, just to be sure. Just so they know they’re not imagining it. Their marriage certificate is grafted over the parts of them that were trained to expect betrayal and loss.

and you’re exactly right, they (literally) live for promises and hard work and having each other’s backs, marriage would look gorgeous on them

like their lives are one life! their home is each other! Neil opens the blinds at 5 am and andrew flips him off every time! their athletic sneakers and heavy boots are lined up together at the door! the house smells like the gritty orange ginger soap that andrew pretends not to like and the sweat from their gear and whatever green smoothie neil had for breakfast! they kick their cats out of the bed so they can have sex, and the sunset pours all over them and they love each other so much that they even say it sometimes!!

plus neil is a terrible terrible disaster with no frame of reference for how much pain is too much pain for like a regular person who wants their bones to be straight and their skin to stay on

like nora are you telling me that andrew wouldn’t want to be dialled UP when his bf is in coma numero 3?? like he wouldn’t show up and clock the doctor with his glittering wedding band?? grow up

So according to Nora Sakavic, Andrew’s fondest memory of Neil is probably one of the times Neil’s mouth got him into a world of trouble, because Andrew is an instigator at heart and Neil is really good at picking fights.”

And sure enough, the first time Andrew gives Neil any sort of an affectionate touch is right after Neil comes to Kevin’s defense and rips Riko to shreds on national television:

Andrew was so fond of Neil’s outburst that he straight up caressed Neil’s back, amazing

alexa this is so sad play you know, i get it, being raised as a superstar must be really, really diffcult for you. always a commodity, never a human being, not a single person in your family thinking you’re worth a damn off the court- yeah, sounds rough. kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time. i know it’s not entirely your fault that you are mentally unbalanced and infected with these delusions of grandeur, and i know you’re physically incapable of holding a decent conversation with anyone like every other normal human being can, but i don’t think any of us should have to put up with this much of your bullshit. pity only gets you so many concessions, and you used yours up about six insults ago. so please, please, just shut the fuck up and leave us alone.
