So Arizona launched an “education hotline” that allows “concerned parents” to report “””critical race theory””” and other things like ~gender identity~ being taught in the classroom

It would be a shame if the number and email were spread to bad actors looking to prank call the AZ Department of Education

602-771-3500 or empower @ azed .gov 🤡

and for the love of god, don’t just spam it with memes or le funny shrek jokes or whatever, they’ll just hang up

make plausible-sounding reports for things that don’t actually exist, so that they actually have to waste time/resources investigating false leads - the goal is to waste time they would otherwise be using to do their jobs, not to get tumblr clout for being an epic troll

So apparently the internet article said the superintendent wouldn't be deterred by the prank calls because they would 'taper off eventually'. It'd be a real shame if this post stayed in circulation via queues so they get a consistent list of prank calls to filter through. 😇

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.

This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.

Republicans are garbage.

If you’re wondering why this is especially catastrophic aside from the the obvious (wetlands, weather patterns, etc): there is a layer of ARSENIC (yes FUCKING ARNSENIC) on the bottom of the Great Salt Lake since it doesn’t drain and is like a collection pool of minerals, thus the salt. When the lake fully dried up, on windy days, arsenic will be blown all over the residents of the Wasatch Front, a region of 2.6 million, which is 79% of Utah’s population. Can’t wait to breathe arsenic and whatever the fuck else is at the bottom of the GSL 💕 thanks Republican law makers!!!! At least I can’t get an abortion or attend a drag show :)

Every person need to be taught disability history

Not the “oh Einstein was probably autistic” or the sanitized Helen Keller story. but this history disabled people have made and has been made for us.

Teach them about Carrie Buck, who was sterilized against her will, sued in 1927, and lost because “Three generations of imbeciles [were] enough.”

Teach them about Judith Heumann and her associates, who in 1977, held the longest sit in a government building for the enactment of 504 protection passed three years earlier.

Teach them about all the Baby Does, newborns in 1980s who were born disabled and who doctors left to die without treatment, who’s deaths lead to the passing of The Baby Doe amendment to the child abuse law in 1984.

Teach them about the deaf students at Gallaudet University, a liberal arts school for the deaf, who in 1988, protested the appointment of yet another hearing president and successfully elected I. King Jordan as their first deaf president.

Teach them about Jim Sinclair, who at the 1993 international Autism Conference stood and said “don’t mourn for us. We are alive. We are real. And we’re here waiting for you.”

Teach about the disability activists who laid down in front of buses for accessible transit in 1978, crawled up the steps of congress in 1990 for the ADA, and fight against police brutality, poverty, restricted access to medical care, and abuse today.

Teach about us.

Oh! Oh! I got one! Meet Edward V. Roberts-

Ed Roberts was one of the founding minds behind the Independent Living movement. Roberts was born in 1939, and contracted polio at age 14, two years before the vaccine that ended the polio epidemic came out (vaccinate your kids). Polio left Roberts almost completely paralyzed, with only the use of two fingers and a few toes. At night, he had to sleep in an iron lung, and he would often rest there during the day as well. Other times of the day, he breathed by using his face and neck muscles to force air in and out of his lungs.

Despite this being the fifties, Roberts' mother insisted that her son continue schooling. Her support helped him face his fear of being stared at and ridiculed at school, going from thinking of himself as a "hopeless cripple" to seeing himself as a "star." When his high school tried to deny him his diploma because he had never completed driver's ed, Roberts and his mother fought the school and won.

This marked the beginning of his career as an activist.

Roberts had to fight the California Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for support to attend college, because his counselor thought he was too severely disabled to ever work or live independently. Roberts did go to school, however, first attending the College of San Marino. He was then accepted to UC Berkeley, but when the school learned that he was disabled, they tried to backtrack. "We've tried cripples before, and it didn't work," one dean famously said. The school tried to argue the dorms couldn't accommodate his iron lung, so Roberts was instead housed in an empty wing of the school's Cowell Hospital.

Image

Roberts' admittance paved the way for other disabled students who were also housed in the new Cowell Dorm. The group called themselves "The Rolling Quads," and together they fought and advocated for better disability support, more ramps and accessible architecture like curb cut outs, founded the first formally recognized student-led disability services program in the country, and even managed to successfully oust a rehabilitation counselor who had threatened two of the Quads with expulsion for their protests.

After graduation from his master's, he served a number of other roles- he taught political science at a number of different colleges over the years, served on the board for the Center for Independent Living, confounded the World Institute on Disability with Judith E. Heumann and Joan Leon, and continued to advocate for better disability services and infrastructure at his alma mater of UC Berkeley.

Roberts also took part in and helped organize sit ins to force the federal government to enforce section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which stated that people with disabilities should not be excluded from activities, denied the right to receive benefits, or be discriminated against, from any program that uses federal financial assistance, solely because of their disability. The sit-in occupied the offices of the Carter Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare building in San Francisco and lasted 28 days. The protestors were supported by local gay rights organizations and the Black Panthers. Roberts and other activists spoke, and their arguments were so compelling that members of the department of health joined the sit in. Reagan was forced to acknowledge and implement the policies and rules that section 504 required. This national recognition helped to pave the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

Roberts died of cardiac arrest in 1995 at the age of 54, leaving behind a proud legacy of advocacy and activism. Not bad for a "hopeless cripple" whose rehab counselor thought he was too disabled to ever work.

1st Amendment much?

Republicans are terrified of losing power. This is why you must vote every one of them out of office.

Rather than accept the world around them, Republicans want to control everyone. The regressive and reactionary Republicans would rather strip children of their social media, their phones, their texts, their emails, the meeting places, and outlaw their conversations than respect their autonomy and agency.

Going into this awful war, please don’t get all your news from Tumblr. You don’t know who is behind any given blog and unless you’ve known someone for awhile and have established trust, don’t take anything seriously until you’ve verified it elsewhere with multiple sources. Propaganda and misinformation have long been the tool of wars, since forever and the internet of today is an extraordinary new and powerfully wide reaching place to use and abuse people with it.

I’m not saying don’t read news here at all, it can be a good way to hear from individuals, but double and triple check everything, especially if it sounds outrageous and infuriates you. Extra especially if the source is making wide statements about a group of people. That’s exactly what propaganda’s goal is. Be careful and be kind. Civilians of every country in the world are not a monolith.

"Dear!

Members of the community of the University of Silesia!

Today we are all Ukrainians.

Twice in our history we have been deprived of our own state by the aggression of empires, and thus cut off from the sovereign exercise of the rights and values of a free, democratic world. Without this foundation, the real university cannot exist as well.

Our Ukrainian friends, we understand your suffering, we join in indignation and protest against the aggression of the Russian regime, we declare all possible help.

Our community consists of students, PhD students and employees from many former Soviet republics. We assure you that everyone who respects the rights of our community will find peaceful shelter, and good conditions for studying, research and work here. Please, be attentive to anyone who needs help in this difficult time.

For specific activities, Plenipotentiary of the Rector for Aid for Ukraine was appointed (Sylwia Ledwoch, phone number: 573 490 580), to whom you can report both the need for aid, and support initiatives, including the willingness to individually get involved in helping (food collection, support in finding a job or a flat, medical assistance, etc.). Additionally, we are preparing system support for studying and working people from Ukraine regarding education, legal advice, health and psychological advice, as well as support in finding a job or a place to live. You might also be interested in help from our translators and interpreters.

The Student Government of the University of Silesia, the Doctoral Student Government, and the Student Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Administration is at your disposal and declares any help in matters related to studying and residing in Poland.

In the following days, we will launch a website with all necessary information on our actions and support.

Let’s be together in mutual help.

Doctoral Student Government of the University of Silesia"

yellow is generally the population’s least favourite colour which is interesting to me. i have a theory that yellow is generally more appealing to people the Less saturated and deep it is, the more warm and less cool it is, and that faded pale yellow is more pleasing to the eye than mustard. can you all participate in a casual experiment and tag or reply with which shade you like best from this yellow shade chart. i’m hypothesising daffodil will be popular as an answer

Phantom Fans,

Netflix cancelled JatP. What we need is a fandom-wide coordinated effort to renew it. Start by signing the petition (link below), and spam as many streaming platforms as you can. Let Netflix know that they messed up, but more importantly, let other streaming services know that we want jatp season 2.
