STOP FUCKING SCROLLING! THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

https://www.badinternetbills.com/?source=direct_link&

The government is going to allow parents to search your internet and sue people for things that the parents do not like or completely shut down valuable resources

This can include resources for LGBTQIA+ people, resources for victims of abuse, sex education, abortion, historical resources and education for many minorites

The deadline is until September to get this signed. Reblog if you care about freedom of speech, LGBTQIA+ youth, history, education, and your loved ones!

Slightly related, I remember several years ago (though I don’t remember who or where) someone saying instead of writing fanfics, why don’t people write spec scripts instead.

That bothered me greatly, but I couldn’t put my feelings into words. And while over time, I came to understood why it bothered me -- they were dismissing fanfiction because they didn’t see it as being productive enough. They saw it as a β€œdead end” and felt it wasn’t worth people’s time or efforts because it couldn’t go any further. They thought people should turn their efforts into something that could potentially be β€œmore productive.”

They saw fanfiction as a β€œwaste” because there’s no result aside from the finished piece; so, therefore people should redirect their energies and efforts into something that gets them somewhere - like a career in writing or whatever.

But this whole post just put my thoughts and feelings into actual coherent words.

Fanfiction is a hobby; people do it because they enjoy it and it’s fun.

Don’t get me wrong, I think you can definitely improve upon your writing with writing fanfic, because writing is writing (though keep in mind it’s a different medium than books and or scripts), and maybe you do want your work to build up to something more (you do you), but that’s not everyone’s goal.

In fact, that’s not the majority of peoples’ goals when it comes to fanfiction.

We’re hobbyists.

It’s exactly like knitting or any other hobby.

This attitude reminds me of when people roll their eyes at someone else’s hobby, because they’re β€œwasting their time;” and they should something practical or useful like learn another language.

And it’s just...

Sometimes people do things for no other reason than to just do the thing. Life shouldn’t be an endless assembly line of productivity, where everything you do amounts to something that can be β€œcommodified” (so to speak).

PS

Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with learning another language (that’s a great skill to have and can definitely be fun and a hobby too), I just used that as an example because it’s always the response I hear when someone is dismissing the work someone put into something the other person finds to be pointless and or useless.

just the response I what I

if there’s a spinal column to capitalism, it’s the belief that there is nothing that cannot be monetized, in some way -- and that having figured out how to monetize the thing, that it follows automatically that there’s no interest nor value in the non-monetized form of the thing.

that’s why since the internet first started, there have been startups focused on (and majorly funded by investors equally focused on) finding a way to monetize the thing (fandom, fanfic, fanart) that all these fools out here are just giving away for free.

β€œgiving away for free” is anathema to capitalism, but it’s also skywriting calling all brogrammers that something’s being made in large amounts but non-monetized -- and if you were the first to figure out how to monetize, you’d be sitting on a goldmine.

so even with all the shattered remains of other startups’ corpses on the fields before the fandom city walls, they’ll keep coming, on the theory that those previous startups had gone about it wrong. but they’re different, they’ve got a different/new/better gimmick on their side.

start boiling the oil, folks, another wave’s a-coming.

being a fan of a character is sometimes β€œlook at how complex he is. he’s so intricate and his story is so tragic and he’s so much more complicated than people give him credit for” and sometimes it’s like β€œhaha look at this failure of a person. I wanna throw him off a cliff and see what happens”

lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.

Too bad Lahore pigeons are a domestic breed and don’t appear in the wild at all. Some equally balanced wild colorations include

Pygmy Falcon

Great Hornbill

Wallcreeper

and

Black-throated Loon

this is a good addition to this post. thank you for this birds educations

I would like to submit the following additions to the world of exceptional bird color design:

Cedar Waxwing

Red Crowned Crane

Brahminy Kite

Green Tree Swallow (I mean seriously - those are metallic teal feathers against stark white. Damn.)Β

Bali Mynah

And, last but certainly not least, the cutest fucking puffball on this planet earth:

The Korean Crow-Tit

I’d also like to contribute some pretty awesome birds

Hooded Pitta (or as like to call them little olives)

Coua

Strike is on. Actors will be joining the writers on the picket lines. This is the first strike in 60 years for SAG, and essentially shuts down the entire US film and television industry.

remember when EA made an edgy sequel to Spore and how it literally doesn’t exist any more thanks to drm

Someone tell the monster factory boys

No, you don’t understand. Due to the old witch hunts against piracy, this game only works if you were connected to the EA servers with a legit copy, but as of March 1st 2016, the servers were shut down and there was no patch released to continue playing it offline.

You literally cannot play this game anymore.

It is impossible for our two special boys at the monster factory to make more special boys in this game.

I can’t believe there’s literally a sequel to Spore calledΒ β€œDark Spore” and no one can ever play it again, life imitates creepypasta.
