Louis Tomlinson left his home in Doncaster as a young man with the intent of making enough money to send it back home to his family and support them however he could. None of the farms are hiring as he travels through Yorkshire, but eventually he makes it all the way up to the northern coast where he secures employment on a fishing boat. He's an in-land child at heart trying to keep his head down and make a living in a town of sailors born from the sea.
Harry, or so he likes to be called, is the myth and legend himself known as the Staithes Mermaid. No one has laid eyes on him, but everyone loves to tell tall tales. Until, all of a sudden, a few incidents crop up around town. Then, the Staithes Mermaid becomes an easy scapegoat. The only problem? Harry approaches Louis, a human, for the first time begging for help to clear his name.

Louis turned the corner to head to Niall and Lewis’ music shop, and slammed right into someone.
“Shit,” Louis gasped, gripping the person’s shoulders in an attempt to remain standing. “God, I’m so sorry!”
“No, I’m sorry,” the man said. “Uh, you steady?”
“Oh, yeah. Sorry again.” Louis blinked a few times and then took a step back. It was only then that he finally glanced up to the man’s eyes. They were a clear, bright green, and curly brown hair fell onto his forehead.
“I should probably…” The man trailed off, motioning towards the antique shop behind Louis.
“Right, sorry,” Louis apologized again, stepping aside. “It’s alright. Have a good day.”
“You too,” Louis replied as the man disappeared around the corner.
By the age of 30, Louis’ entire life trajectory had changed from what he’d thought it would be. He moved back to the town he grew up in and did his best to pull himself and his life back together again.
Four years, seven months, and sixteen days after the day that changed everything, Louis turns a corner and literally runs into the man who just might change it all again.

Harry let out a strangled cry and grabbed the card out of Louis' hand.
“I hope you know this is the end of us. I forgave you, Louis. I loved you again, but all this time, you were using me. I hope you rot in Hell,” Harry seethed and walked out of the warehouse.

An unusual circumstance brings them together. The only problem is, Louis has been stealing from his company for five years.

Harry rolls his head, neck cracking, as he walks to where Niall and Liam are standing at the kitchen island, reading silently from a vaguely familiar notebook that Niall’s holding. His eyes are still a bit blurry from having them closed for so long so he reaches out to grab the notebook and bring it closer to his face.
Oh God.
There’s no way Niall’s going to leave now without making this into an absolute thing.
“Is that what we think it is, Harry?” Niall prods, his eyes positively gleaming. He’s bouncing on the balls of his feet, practically vibrating.
“Harry?” Liam asks, softly, like he’s trying not to spook him. Sweet Liam. He’d try to keep Niall from making it a thing, but Harry and Liam both surely know he wouldn’t succeed.
Niall had found his bucket list.
Freshly dumped, recently fired, and about to turn 40, Harry's friends insist on taking him skydiving to cheer him up. His younger and extremely fit instructor Louis makes him even more nervous than the idea of jumping out of a plane, but both may be exactly what he needs to turn his life around.

Summary:
