It's been a year and 3 months since I relesed the "Age Of Dinosaurs" album. I have done a horrible job of marketing it and never put it up on digital platforms other than Bandcamp. It is hard for me to like my own music but recently I have gained an appreciation for some of the songs and even proud of them. I suppose it is easier to love yourself when you are given love. Full version on my IG TV. I love the look of vintage garbled film or video, early television or distressed signals degenerating over time. I am also enamored with the kind of 70's grindhouse type look and thought this font fit the bill for a song I wrote (I believe) in 2017 called Coquette Smile. It definitely has a sadcore tone but also a 70's feel, maybe even a Euro feel in terms of the imagery of cobblestone streets or as I sing "streets of cobblestone" with a syntax more medieval than modern. The song is full of sadness and despair and even touches on the taboo subject of suicide. I was looking for some kind of interesting video to set the song over and Debbie Harry popped into my mind and then Blondie, of course. Debbie and Chris Stein's relationship is a true love story and the band's early stuff in that incendiary creative time of the late 70's is so utterly captivating. I love their early punk aesthetic and I missed out in that potent time. I was there but to afraid to partake in it. Still I love Debbie and Blondie. I like counterpositioning. I like putting happy with sad. Energy with a barbiturate drip of sadness. Coquette Smile's sad, sadcore feeling against the utter energy of early Blondie feels some how right to me. I hope you enjoy.
