Considerate Spirit Offerings

The concept of giving something to invisible powers in order to curry favour, or placate them, is as old as mankind. When we look at the archeological evidence this practice is found in the earliest record of man’s beliefs. In temple and cave we find burnt and charred remains, idols and other objects and substances meant to be given as currency to those beings with which shaman, priest, and witch all traffic.

Sacrifice, that is, the taking of a life, has long been considered the pinnacle of spirit offerings. Blood spilt and breath taken, the life of a being is the most precious gift one could give from time immemorial.

More commonly it was not a sacrifice but a simple offering that was the bargain between people and spirits. Those bits that were deemed sufficient to please, to coax and to favour the beings whose aide and instruction one desired. The items were often personal, something that had acquired significant sentimental value or that was inherently rare for the time and place it was being given.

When we look at the folk practices of northern Europe, particularly in Scotland and Ireland, we see that common people regularly made offerings to appease the localized version of earth spirits (fae, fairies, sidhe, hillfolk, goblins, gnomes, etc). A saucer of milk, a plate of cakes, a bowl of cream could all curry favour with one’s local sprite. Even wine and mead were given on specific occasions. These offerings may seem trivial in an age of supermarkets and global produce but in an era of self sustenance farming even a saucer of milk was a considerable offering.

The witch, being that pinnacle of human superstitious practice, trafficked with such entities more so than the common person. Thus these exchanges developed and refined the practice of making offerings into an art. While the practitioner may have left regular offerings of milk and cream, much as their neighbor did, they would more intimately have dealt directly with these beings. Having given other more elaborate offerings in exchange for particular deeds and information.

Such passive offerings, preemptively enticing the spirit to favour, give way to active considerations and even requests from the spirit. A lock of one’s hair, the bones of some animal, the burning of particular herbs. At the edge of work in the shadows one may encounter beings who request even blood sacrifice for their services. Such work is not undertaken without due consideration even for the most experienced of practitioners. In general those spirits whom require the taking of life are not to be trafficked with lightly.

Yet it is much more common that one would make a binding agreement with a spirit through the giving of a gift. A simple and practical exchange that results in the barter for services. In Caribbean conjure work cigars and exceptional liquors are the preferred currency, in the Highlands of Scotland a brass button, lock of hair, or coloured thread is more likely to achieve practical results.

In the modern world we tend to forget that the spirits with whom we traffic are as old as the hills and forest in which they manifest. They have seen countless men and women come and go like fireflies on a summer night. Our lives are but a brief burning of a candle to them, our decades and centuries like hours and days, much in the way trees experience time, or mountains.

While approaching the building of a relationship with a spirit one should be sure to make offerings of those things thought precious in an earlier age. A saucer of milk, a silver spoon, an old brass button. These things were once the most precious gifts a spirit could be offered, and the old ones remember them well. A spirit who has seen men come and go for millennia remembers the taste of fresh milk and churned butter, may delight in the shimmer of a brass button or a particular stone, find comfort in coloured cloth, silk ribbons or hand spun thread.

We must learn in our dealings with earth spirits of all kinds that barter is a principal that is beyond human culture. The giving of gifts is an inherent part of living, practiced in one form or another by birds, reptiles, mammals, and fish alike. From mating rituals to the cessation of a conflict, countless forms of life barter. No less these entities whose world rubs against our own, whose manifestation lingers at the boundaries of what we call real.

The practitioner should remember that much like how your grandmother still likes “old fashioned” things, that may be long out of date, the spirits, be they sidhe, fae, wight, lwa, or boggart, often long for offerings we no longer consider rare, for gifts we overlook in our fast paced world of amazon deliveries. Make an offering with consideration, in keeping with the stature and age of the being with whom you are dealing. Learn to give them those things which they desire, those objects that fulfill the promise of the ancient pact. If not you may wake to find your milk spoiled and your windows cracked!

How to see Aura

  • get a white paper, or if you have a white wall, it serves well too

1. Put your hand in front of the white paper or white wall  2. Pick one finger to look 3. Stare and the border of the finger 4. First you will start by seeing a trasparent contour around the finger 5. After a while you start seeing some color

PS.: Who is not used to it might take some time but keep starring… I advise you to try it at least for one minute if your eyes get tired then after a few minutes if you didnt have results do it another day repeat it every day untill you get i can tell if you follow these steps seriously you will get there.

Colors:

  • Red: related to material. Usually people that attract money easy, that can handle wealth well, enthusiastic
  • Blue: Spiritual,  balanced, relaxed, communicators, singers, intelligent, intuitive, healers
  • Indigo: psychic, intuitive, empathy, sensivity
  • Rainbow: healer, medium
  • Purple: spiritual, creative, artistical, philosophical, love to learn, connected with nature, psychic
  • Yellow: analytical, intelligent, scientists, good with perception, decisive
  • Pink: loving, giving, family oriented, strong psychic abilities, writers, anti-conflicts
  • green aura: hard working, creative, stable, practical, successful in business, generosity
  • Orange: kind, honest, sensible, quick to lose their temper, confident
  • white/silver: sensitivity, intuitive, psychic, spiritual, lucky
  • Gold: love attention, beauty, attract affection from others, great listeners,
  • Brown: lack of confidence, selfishness, deception
  • Black aura: depression, hatred, negativity

The white, indigo, blue and violet are said to be the higher frequencies… One might have more then one aura color… Aura can change the color or the shade… It’s a spiritual field that reflects the spiritual level of a person… If a person changes too much the color of the aura might change too. But also it’s common to someone to never change it’s aura color.

how can ppl say cats dont have feelings like.

when my cat got deadly sick she refused to eat a single thing and it had been days but when i started crying she ate just a little bit, and upon seeing how happy it made me, kept doing it whenever she could.

now whenever im sad or crying she finds wherever i am with a mouthful of food and eats the pieces one by one, every time looking up at me making sure i was watching her eat it all because she knew it made me happy. and it DOES make me happy

i love cats!!!

im so glad my little Foofy has touched everyone’s hearts… she luvs you all

Gentle, sweet, whisper of a reminder that I am pro cursing. A lot of the witches I know are. They have some of the strongest ethics codes I’ve seen. Just because someone uses baneful magic doesn’t mean they’re a bad person or reckless.

Reblogging cause I am also pro cursing.

Rebageling because DAMN am I curse-positive.

If you hadn’t guessed it, I’m also pro-cursing!

There’s this thing called the threefold law or the law of three that at least applies to some wiccans, it says that anything you put out into the world magically will come back to you three times stronger. That’s why I don’t curse or cast spells for selfish reasons. I try to respect that law.

Not all witches are wiccan tho. I’m not, OP isn’t as well as others who have reblogged this post. Witch =/= wiccan wiccan =/= witch Also the rede is a guide, not a law

Pro cursing just so you guys know

I’m Pro cursing. I’m not Wiccan and I’ve heard all the go around about the three fold law, etc.

I’ve heard the phrase that what goes around comes around but sometimes you are what comes around

^ repeating that last bit a lil louder for the wiccans readying their attack in the back

Sometimes YOU are what comes around

CURSING is not inherently moral or amoral, like karate or a knife. It is a skill, a tool, for attack and defense. What people do with it? doesn’t matter. There is no divine judgement that will smite someone who curses.

I am definitely what comes around.

Pro-curse here!

If your misdeeds have brought me across your path to teach your ignorant ass a lesson, I can hardly be blamed for being such an effective teacher

I am pro-cursing as well. If anyone seeks to Hurt someone i love or care about then you deserve whatever curse you get.

Celebrate Yule

Outside:

  • Leave out birdseed ornaments as offerings to the season
  • If snowing, play in the snowfall to appreciate the changing season or collect some for snow water
  • After the sun has gone down, burn a yule log in a bonfire
  • Take some friends and go wassailing

In the Home:

  • Make stovetop potpourri as an alternative to incense
  • DIY gifts with your witch skills for your friends and family
  • Read a winter solstice tarot spread for yourself
  • Decorate your holiday tree, blessing the ornaments with good energy
  • Hang mistletoe for protection and (consensual!) kisses

In the Kitchen:

In the Bath:

  • Bathe with fresh orange slices and frankincense and myrrh essential oils for a prosperity ritual bath

A Chant for Protecting Yourself and Taking your Power Back

To all those who need recovery after a psychic/karmic attack, feel as though you are powerless and you need that little extra magical push, or merely for those who have had a not-so-good day,

this is for you.

Take back what belongs to you, little witch.

Your voice can mend.

“Calling upon the powers from

North, South, East, and West,

The four corners of the Earth, I take my power back.

Forsake all who threaten to do harm upon me,

I signal the universe to protect me,

and sever me from their toxicity.

Grant me the power to rise above where they had thought I had been sent to fall.

I thank the powers of North, South, East, and West,

The gifts of the Earth and the stars above;

powers of earth, water, fire, and air

with good to all,

reverse harm that has been done,

by the grace of my own magic,

this spell is done.”

Help! Someone is praying against me, what do I do???

everyone has some ain’t shit person in they life who wants to see them fail, even if it’s subconcious. a jealous friend, an entitled coworker, or ya shady ass aunty who can’t mind her damn business, we all have someone working against us

most curses amount to this, so before you start freakin’ out that some powerful rootworker or witch is mad at you, i have some tips to help you out

First notice the signs

do ya ears ring? itch? feel hot? is ya eye twitchin? do you keep havin dreams with a person who you not all that close to? did you get really hype for some good news and then it crumbled? even when it seemed like a for sure thing? then someone is prolly working against you

Figure out who it is

this can be difficult. narrow down the most likely aint shit people in ya life, pay attention to ya dreams, ask the house spirits and ancestors, or do a little divination. get a grasp of their energy.

Cleanse

but frfr get outcha Florida Water, double the salt, light all the herbs on fire, clean and cleanse your home, car, and any spaces you heavily occupy. cleanse and get rid of items connected to the person. take a long cleansing bath.

Banish

do a banishing spell, write the names of the people down and set them on fire, get the black salt out and sweep it out the door. banish their energy that is currently being directed at you. cleansing only gets rid of what is there currently.

BIND

remember, if you don’t bind them, the person will just keep sending those prayers and soft curses your way. silence them.

Prevention/Preemptive Strike

there are many ways to just eliminate the casual curses and prayers against you.

  1. STOP TELLIN EVERYONE YA GATDAMN BUSINESS
  2. Protection charms
  3. Reflecting spells (real mirrors are good for this)
  4. Sigils
  5. Washing your doors
  6. Protective and charged crystals
  7. Cats

now go forth and handle that messy bitter bitch who’s tryna fuck up ya life 👌🏽

🌧 Water in magic 🌊

Water is very commonly used in magic, like charging, making potions and spell baths. Different types of water are used in different means and I thought to write a little list of some.

Rain water 💦 growth, cleansing, charging, can be used as altar water

Storm water 💦 motivation, cursing, power booster

Snow water 💦 purity, balance, creativity

Sea water 💦 protection, healing, cleansing, banishing

Ocean water 💦 energizing, powering

River water 💦 movement, powering, energy

Moon water 💦 Since different phases have their own properties, I have a specific post for moon water
