10 Days of Christmas: Day 4

part 2: Clarke and lexas first Christmas with their newborn baby.

Previously: Day 3

Deep and dark was the night, interrupted by the glow of the lights of the rest of the block. From the front door, the yard was illuminated by golden shadows, highlighted with green and red blinking extras, a true monstrosity in one of the occupant’s opinion. Quiet was the night, as the snow came down in freckled chunks and sprinkles, adding to the inches already accumulated.

10 Days of Christmas: Day 3

part one: the year prior to the baby

Previously: Day 2

There was a distinct chill to the morning, one that was almost unavoidable. Overcast and wanting to do nothing but snow, the culmination of the holiday season came with just the occasional flurry and threat of accumulation.

10 Days of Christmas: Day 2

Canon Clexa-Grounder Christmas & Clarke first time seeing snow.

Previously: Day 1

There was a smell that came with it. Deep in the night, the world grew disorientingly quiet, grew discerningly still, and it would begin. The chill in the air would be enough to break bones, would briskly freeze any skin it could find. Something changed, and no one else would know it, except for the Commander.

“Wake up,” Lexa whispered, digging her nose into Clarke’s neck, earning a growl. “It’s snowing.”

10 Days of Christmas: Day 1

Secret Santa-unrequited crushes.

It was her favorite time of the year, the time when magic was tangible and fate was heavy-handed in its dealings. The giant windows of the market district were illuminated with all scenes of domestic tranquility and wonderment. Elves worked around the clock stringing garland and lights from every eave, and if she were being honest, she had a bit of a pep in her step herself.

Despite every effort made to avoid becoming accustomed to the life of her girlfriend and now roommate, Clarke realized, as she sat in her favorite chair on one of the balconies of her penthouse apartment, sipping a wonderful coffee made in an expensive machine, that perhaps she was growing to accept that this might be her life. After three whole years of Lexa Woods, resident former bad girl, workaholic, and model-hunter, the CFO of one of the largest companies on the planet, who with a net worth of her own now moving into the billions– without even taking into account her shares of her father’s company, was single handedly trying to save corporate culture, the current love of her life, Clarke was getting used to having a rooftop patio with a view of Central Park, among other things.

Night calmed the heat, making it almost tolerable. The humidity dimmed, sick of working so hard throughout the day. It took until well into the night for it to relax, but the pair on the balcony didn’t mind. They had the patience and an exceedingly late bed time after an exceedingly long day.

The light flipped on in the kitchen and Lexa’s head shot up as it drifted toward her bowl of cereal. She blinked a few times and twirled her spoon around absently. She was too tired for anything else, too tired to eat. Too tired to think about making it up to her room just yet.

So she half-slept through her cereal and fought to make lists in her head for the coming days.

“You look like shit, darling,” Beth chuckled as she went about making coffee.

“I want to… I don’t even know where to start.”

The musician sighed happily and stared at the award in her hand, gleaming in the shine from the blinding spotlights in the large theatre. She weighed it and swallowed the lump in her throat before looking back up again.

Giant: Ch. 18

Don’t let them take you down Take your heart away  And when the world comes crashing down You gotta hold your ground

It was absolute hell. Outside, out in the world, it was an ongoing battle and it was a never ending war. People yelled on television. People yelled on street corners. People yelled at marches and protests and parades and pretty much everywhere, actually. Everyone was very sad and mad and generally so very humanly worried about their place in the world, that it turned into defensive posturing only seen during times of the greats rashes of pandemics and war.

But not in the bed.

Essays in Existentialism: Masquerade II

thaT MASQUERADE BALL AU WITH CLEXA WAS SI BEAUTUFYL I’M DYUNG CAN YOU WRITE MIRE LIKE THAT HSJAKKKWSB THANK U FOR EXISTING.

Previously on Masquerade

The stagnant heat of the long afternoon sunk soggy and sullen in the slick sweat along Lexa’s back and shoulders. She felt the sun on her skin, felt the fabric of her shirt grow heavy with sweat, felt the dirt cling to it, adding to it further, and none of it weighed more heavily upon her than the very sky, itself nothing more than a tired old dog, flopping down upon the world and smothering it.

The horses grew agitated and lethargic in the heat. July started fiercely and made its wrath known, threw its weight around in the form of screaming mad days and dehydrating nights. Lexa ran her forearm against her forehead, pulling away as much sweat as she could before it ran like a river through her eyes before returning to the task at hand and finishing the work up on Mrs. Roger’s new horse.

The palace hadn’t changed much since the arrival of the now former-princess. It was always run with a small staff and comfortable quarters for the king and his daughter, as they chose to keep it an intimate place where they could feel normal for a few hours from time to time. While the head butler was even more scrutinizing of those who came and went to the private chambers, protective over his beloved king and princess even more-so, the change went relatively unnoticed by the inhabitants, as such changes were meant to be.

Essays in Existentialism: Paint

lexa is entranced by the paint stains on clarke’s hands.

as always, HERE

May is teal, torn between green and blue and living somewhere between saltwater marshes and little boxes of apology jewelry. While the trees and vines and bushes all bloom to life between storms and showers, teal leaks from every roof and collects in puddles, smelling like soft dirt and an evening chill.

Swirls of it stain the right backside of Clarke’s old jeans. Much too big, too holey, too faded and stained, starched and seared with previous months, they sit, drunk and half out of the hamper in the corner.
