To say things weren’t going well for Alonzo would be an understatement, well, if you asked him anyway. He walked right into the main clearing, head held high as if he hadn’t just been arguing with Munkustrap for the third time this week about his so called ‘lack of responsibility’ and 'childish attitude’ and other things he’d rather not remember. He wasn’t made for leadership, hell he was made for having fun.
Usually at this time he’d be off with Cassandra gossiping or grooming each others fur but she’d gone home for the weekend for a bit of pampering. So instead his number one method for feeling better was basking in the attention of dim witted kittens. He loved them to bits, so long as they loved him back. Bombalurina was there as he’d expected, entertaining his kittens. He joined the group without hesitation, she’d just have to find something else to do.
Alonzo stroked the side of Etcetera’s face with the back of his paw. “Good evening my queen.” He purred. What had been laughter at Bombalurina’s story turned into little giggles as she turned to face Electra and share her excitement with her. Alonzo smirked and looked up at Bombalurina who had been avoiding his gaze. /Can’t even handle a bit of competition./
The toms were not as interested in him as they were Bomba but they did like to take mental notes on what he did in case they could use his tricks when they could older. The queens however were all dying for his attention, usually he was more aloof and it was difficult but today he was handing out attention for free.
Alonzo took hold of Jemima’s paw, now he was happily in the middle of the circle. “Tell me, how do you get your fur to shine line that? What’s your secret?” As he spoke he didn’t break eye contact, enjoying how flustered it made the young kit.
“W-well it’s nothing like yours Lonz! It’s so nice and soft!” She said quickly, falling over her words. Alonzo grinned, he was feeling better already.
Watching the queens excitedly turn their attention to Alonzo, and the toms slowly being won over by him and watching him carfeully, Bombalurina frowned. Her tail began to flick back and forth in annoyance, and she had half a mind to give Alonzo a good claw on his nose to teach him a lesson.
After all, Alonzo and her had this problem in the past. Bombalurina had thought, before now, that this was in the past. They’d decided that if one of them had attention, not to steal the spotlight- because they’d have it later.
But apparently someone couldn’t keep their end of a deal.
Bombalurina forced a smile and laughed a fake-playful giggle, her tail calming down as she acted as if she wasn’t annoyed.
“Oh, Alonzo! I didn’t notice you there.” When she could tell no one was looking at her, only him, she made a much ruder expression, almost threatening, saying clearly ‘What are you doing here?’
Bombalurina took the opportunity to turn attention back to her, taking Jemima’s opening. “Well, Alonzo’s fur may be quite soft, but I think yours is lovely, Jemima. Nice, beautiful and red, don’t you think?” She smiled as Jemima turned back to her, thanking her.
“In fact,” the queen continued, “I have some fur secrets that I could share with you all. I know Etcetera and Pouncival both wanted to know that a while ago, didn’t you?” With the mention of their names, they were nodding along, looking back at her again as she dished out attention. “Well, I can spill my secrets, but I wouldn’t want Alonzo stealing them, now would I?” She looked at him smugly as the kittens seemed to agree for no reason. “Babe, you mind scampering along?”
