I'm gonna try to keep this brief because I already have a post about this that's gotten like 1,000 notes, I just haven't met this goal and need to soon.

I have been having seizures, and I have a GP appt to get referred to a neurologist. I have been speaking to the clinic system handling my care, and I should be put on a cancelation list as soon as my referral is received. Because of this, I ideally would have the funds for the neurologist appointment by the time they get my referral. That way if someone cancels, and they call me with an hours notice to get to that appt, I will be able to actually make the appt. Currently I need $385 for this.

I am grateful the clinic is willing to rush this appointment. They did this with my roommate last year, and it saved his life. But based on our experience with that, I am stressed about getting the money in time.

This original goal was met, and I've boosted this post a couple times asking for a little bit to get food, but it is now clear we are gonna need help with rent. Right now, we need $650. This is mostly bc my card got stolen three days ago. I had the money for my neuro appt on another card and could use it for rent, but they could call me any day to come in, and my official appt is just days after rent is due on the 1st. I don't know if I'm going to be getting the money that was stolen back, but I've taken the appropriate steps to do so, and been told to wait to hear back. I have had so many interviews for a 2nd job this past week, many of them with hiring bonuses, and if I hear back from any of them, I will able to lower this goal. If anything changes at all I will update immediately. But right now, this is where we're at. Dm me for proof or details.

I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.

To steal something I saw elsewhere: Why would I bother to read something nobody could be bothered to write?

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
