When Steven is having a panic attack in episode 2 and Marc tells him to breathe through it and that it gets easier he sounds like he's speaking from experience. And just when Steven asks him how long he's been dealing with this and he says "I don't know, a long time. A long time." So does he even know how long it's been?

WHY DID I GET THESE ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER GUYS C'MON.

And he's so gentle in the way he comforts him. He's frustrated and angry and maybe even a little scared that they lost the scarab because of everything that's at stake, but he still takes a moment to regroup. Breathe, okay, I've gotta help Steven. It's the way I imagine he wishes someone would've comforted him for all those years through his own attacks, and it speaks volumes to Marc's character because it's not like he had the best example of that growing up to draw from. It's just.. him.

It's alsooooo interesting because for all his conviction that everything he does is for Steven, and it either doesn't affect him or he just doesn't care if it affects him, that scene really showed just how much what he does messes with his head. He's either a) evenly swinging between two very different lives, either his own or letting Steven have his and watching from the background or b) completely giving Steven the reins for as long as possible because. Well. We know why, anyway. He's always, at minimum, only half present, so it makes sense that he doesn't really know. His concept of time must be impossibly complicated, especially after his careful control starts breaking down between them, of course he can't make it out.
