The Town of Huntly

Seraphine and Rowan are walking through the neighbouring towns, looking for any signs of magical children or magical families.

Seraphine: We would save time if we were to go our separate ways, you know.

Seraphine: *Chucking incredulously* Oh, can’t you?

Seraphine: *Jokingly* Are you implying that I require your help?

Are you planning on rping soon?

Man, even just this ask gives me a pinch of oomph to try get started again.

The last 2 years have been a shit-show for my mental health, and to be honest I’m still not back on top.

I’ve also been really unmotivated because in the last 18 months I’ve contributed to half a dozen collabs that have never seen the light of day, which has been really disheartening. I totally understand that things crop up for other people and I can’t blame them (especially since I haven’t been bold enough to message people and find out what’s happening) but I feel like I’ve just had a run of bad luck.

Also, I’m still working my 44 hour work week and trying not to panic about the state of the world while my boss 1) doesn’t listen to my input about things at work and 2) complains about rich white people problems, so that’s eating up a lot of my energy.

I guess I’m just struggling in real life and it’s totally taken my spoons from all my creative endeavours. Hopefully I’ll find some inspiration and motivation at the same time and be able to get back into this wonderful community soon.

Day Ten

Be With Me Always

Harry’s words spiraled out through Remus’ mind in dangerous fractals. What exactly did ‘gone’ even mean? He had thought Peter was gone for a dozen years, only to find that he was alive. The entire Wizarding World had thought Voldemort gone until he had returned! Why should he assume the permanence of Sirius’ death when that line was blurred, when that line was as fragile as the flutter of a Veil? Could fabric not be torn? In which Remus Lupin must come to terms with third chances coming at a very dear price.

Day Seven

If We Believed in Stars

When Remus Lupin was eight years old, his mother flung herself off the tallest cliff in that grey little Welsh seaside town, mumbling nonsense about the stars, and about the sea swallowing them all up. Everybody knows that stars don’t exist. Remus has always believed in stars. The people in his village have looked at him like he’s odd since before he can remember – and he knows what they whisper, that it’s Loony Lupin again, as he walks past them in the street. But he doesn’t care, because he knows something they don’t.

Week 1 Round Up

DAY ONE

Doomed, Remus must hold winter at bay with a season of sequestered prayer and cold meals all alone at the edge of the world. He would hope for return, but winter has teeth and a taste for blood. RATING: E  WORD COUNT: 6335

Remus Lupin thought that life would become better. He was far from home and old worries, in a place where everything was flowers. It felt like a luxury, like a dream. Dreams, however, tended to be brief. And the winter, though momentarily forgotten, caught up with him. His father lost him in a game of cards to Sirius Black. Remus was now imprisoned in an enchanted palace with a cursed Beast. RATING: T  WORD COUNT: 6395

DAY TWO

Some sleepless nights and general confusion. - Something’s wrong, Remus whispers. Sirius tightens his grip on Remus’ wrist, his lashes brushing against the back of Remus’ neck. Remus - The tolling of a bell fills Remus’ head, the brittle edge of panic, something screaming at him to run, this isn’t right. Memories - falling, fighting, kneeling in an empty grave as the sun rose over the horizon. RATING: Not Rated  WORD COUNT: 1020

There is a legend in the old city of Grimsfall that a large, black creature used to emerge from the forest at night, and anyone who met its gaze would be driven to madness before the thing dragged them into the depths of hell. RATING: E  WORD COUNT: 11280

DAY THREE

We are the other of the other. ― Marco Aurelio RATING: T  WORD COUNT: 5103

Sirius needed a change of scenery and thought that New Orleans would be the perfect place to get away. The ghost stories were fascinating until they all started to seem a little too real. RATING: T  WORD COUNT: 4443

DAY FOUR

Remus lives an unassuming life. He does his best to keep a distance between himself and the ones who could come back for him. He does his best to keep a distance between himself and the world that would condemn him for what he is. This new job seems good. But the further he runs, the more he comes to realise you can’t keep a distance from yourself. RATING: M WORD COUNT:  5816

The magic was wilder here than anything Sirius had ever felt. The muggles were exceptionally superstitious, and to begin with Sirius had scoffed at their wards drawn in chalk and different beads and strings and charms hung outside the run-down and time-worn shacks, but the longer he spent in the village the more he understood. Magic was so thick and untamed that even they could feel it, and mystical beasts that he had not heard of before intermingled with their normal creatures until it was impossible to tell where the magical and non-magical worlds began and ended in relation to one another. RATING: G  WORD COUNT: 3506

DAY FIVE

Remus had read the news of Sirius’ escape in the Daily Prophet the day Albus Dumbledore approached him with a job offer. His timing was quite obvious and both men were very aware of this. This employment would mean surveillance, but it would also mean security. And if it only meant financial security, it would probably have been enough to have Remus accept it. Also it was not as if he was abandoning anything – or anyone – if he left for Hogwarts on September 1. So he said yes, despite the news. They had stirred up again everything Remus had tried to contain in the far end of his mind, of course they had. He was in for a lot of sleepless nights, he was sure. And so, when it was time to go to bed Remus lied awake, the faces of Harry Potter and Sirius black ghosting through his mind, invading his dreams and waking him up drenched in sweat from the horrors his subconscious imagined would follow soon. A re-telling of Prisoner of Azkaban from Remus’ perspective. RATING: T  WORD COUNT:  51502

So I’ve been MIA for a while, oops.

I had a rough start to 2020. Lost my fur baby Fred, had some unhelpful conversations with family and the SADs were really affecting me.

I pushed through because I really wanted to try and kick this year in the ass. I took a week off from insta and tumblr to get a fic finished for a fest and then just never returned.

In this time, I also found out that the immense 18-month struggle I went through to wean off some medication that I was told by my doctor was awful and potentially dangerous for me to be taking long term (and had horrendous side effects in the six-month weaning off process) were actually fine and necessary for me all along. So there was a lot of anger and resentment that went along with the depression that followed that revelation.

I’m super sorry for the awesome content I’ve missed; I’m going to be trying to go back and catch up.
