Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

Might I add:

The defeat of the wizard who made people choose how they’d be to be executed

The woman who raised the changeling alongside her biological child

The human who died of radiation poisoning after repairing the spaceship

The adventures of a space roomba

Cinderella finding Araura (and falling in love)

I don’t know a snappy description but the my nemesis cynthia story certainly lives in my head

I am in love with you /p

What about the one with the princess locked in a tower learning to become a wizard? That’s lived in my mind for years and I haven’t seen it in a long time

Wow! @writing-prompt-s contributing to like half of these!

I can hardly take any credit for these stories! But I love sharing them. Unfortunately I cannot read all the prompt responses so please tag me if you want me to reblog a story that resonated with you so I can give it a little boost :)

Hello friends! It's my birthday on my local timeline, and as such, I would like to propose the following for anyone who may wish to join me in celebration:

Zero-Comment Challenge!

  1. Pick an ao3 tag — maybe one of your favorite blorbos, or that especially tasty kink, or a classic trope you love
  2. Sort by comments and go to the pages at the end of the list
  3. Pick a fic with zero comments
  4. Read it and leave a comment!*

*(a nice one, obviously)

That's it! For bonus points, do a few! If you find a fic you really like, share it so more people can check it out!

Reblog this to spread the word, if you want, but don't tell them I sent you — just be an agent of joy for someone today. 😊

Variations:

📝 Go leave a comment on that fic you MEANT to comment on but haven't yet

📝 Reread a fave and drop a "reread kudos ❤" comment

📝 Literally just go leave someone a comment for any reason; it's NEVER the wrong time to say something nice!

It's that time again!

My working theory is that a spell component tied to a gold piece value is dictated when that spell was inscribed at the particular time your character is reading it.

If the book or scroll or whatever is old, or not local, it could be out of date. If it was written locally within the last few years, it has a greater chance of being accurate.

The interplay here allows a greater chance of spectacular failure or success (depending on the local economy).

I don’t know.

Maybe this is too in the weeds for taste.

But the raw mechanics of things, that’s the stuff I love the most.

"Look, I'm going to warn you, this spell is reputed to be powerful, but it was seen as impractical because of how expensive the components are. They were hard to get a hold of, too." "Shit. Well, tell me what it is, I'll see what I can do." "Okay, let's see, you need... Oh. $30 of gold fragments, cinnamon bark from Ceylon, coffee beans harvested from a Colombian hillside, and $5 of saffron." "...if that edible gold stuff counts, I can probably get it all off Amazon?" "Yeah, this was all probably harder to collect in 1854."

tbh I’ve always found it very funny that Elrond is like “there’s no point bringing Glorfindel on the quest, even though he’s a balrog-slayer. You won’t need balrog-slayers” and then thirty pages later they run into a balrog

The first night Bilbo camped with the company he very nearly said something about it, but, having no idea what dwarves are and thinking it might be rude, he kept the observation to himself and decided that dwarves must be some kind of fungus. It improved his estimation of them most incredibly, and was, in fact, one of the observations he was most keen to pass on when he got back, seeing as how—even if it didn’t quite make him respectable, per se—it at least provided a valuable new addition to hobbits’ mushroom-lore, which no one (not even a certain few silver-spoon possessing relatives) could fault him for.

#anyways it’s common knowledge in the shire that dwarves are actually just a kind of mushroom#but no one says anything#because they think (seeing as how the dwarves haven’t brought it up themselves) it would be rude (via @willowcrowned)

My partner, reading this over my shoulder: “It never ceases to amaze me when Tolkein fans write meta that goes off in really bizarre directions”

Me: “These books are 70 years old, everything normal to say about them has been said; if you’re gonna say anything new about it, it’s gonna have to be weird”

I'm pretty much full up on messenger bags but I still have fabric to use up and the will to Make, so I decided to make the cryptids a little quilted cat bed. They don't like soft or fluffy things, my baby spartans, so I made it fairly plain, then put it on the bed where they spend most of their day.

It's fun, right?

[ID: Two images of a quilted cat bed in bright fabrics, sitting on my duvet. In the second, Dearborn the tortie is sitting just outside the bed, while Polk the tabby is standing in it, sniffing the edges.]

It started out well...but then...

[ID: Polk has somehow flipped the bed over to show the sushi-print fabric underside, and is now underneath it like a turtle, head poking out the "entry" with her tail poking out the back.]

Polk, no, what are you -- that's not --

[ID: Polk has now turned around and is sitting in the bed backwards, with it still upside-down on top of her and her butt sticking out the entry. Dearborn looks nonplussed.]

Dearborn, show your sister how you -- not like that.

[ID: The bed has been flipped right side up and Dearborn is sitting in it, but she is facing away from the entry with her nose pressed to the back of the bed, and it has somewhat collapsed around her.]

Well, I suppose at least they're enjoying it.

i think that killing a dragon should have catastrophic nuclear-fallout level environmental consequences tbh. their blood should scorch and wither the earth with fire and poison, the toxic fumes released as they decay should choke the land and all nearby living creatures, and the entire landscape where they fell should be transformed into a blighted wasteland where bleached leviathan bones loom upwards out of the ground as a warning that can be seen from miles away, the boundary markers of an exclusion zone.

i also think that it would be wonderfully ironic if those who sought the fame and glory of the title of ‘dragonslayer’ only ended up with the bitter, enduring reminder of the devastation they’re responsible for. this is not a place of honor. no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here.
