supernatural really was like okay so dean and cas grieve each other like widowers and repeatedly come back from the dead for each other and feel each other’s losses like a missing limb and choose to defy god for each other and coparent two children together and get divorced and go through marriage counseling and reconcile and never get other serious love interests because no one else could ever approach what they mean to each other and cas openly states that he’s in love with dean BUT as long as dean doesn’t say it back out loud in english they’re technically not a couple

Broke:

Belle has Stockholm syndrome because she falls in love with the Beast, her kidnapper.

Woke:

Stockholm syndrome was coined to slander a woman who had been in a hostage situation but openly criticized the poor police response which recklessly put her in more danger and escalated the violence. She was then belittled and discredited publically by the police for this.

So. Yeah. Maybe Belle does have Stockholm syndrome actually.

If anyone is curious here is the wikipedia section describing this.

[ID: Gif image from Disney's Beauty and the Beast with Gaston leading a large group of villagers down the road holding a torch. The atmosphere is dark.

Wikipedia screenshot containing the following:

According to accounts by Kristin Enmark, one of the hostages, the police however was acting incompetently, with little care for the hostages' safety, which forced the hostages to negotiate for their life and release with the robbers on their own. In the process the hostages saw the robbers behaving more rationally than police negotiators and therefore developed a deep distrust towards the latter. Enmark had criticized Bejerot specifically for endangering their lives by behaving aggressively and agitating the captors. She had criticized the police for pointing guns at the convicts while the hostages were in the line of fire and she had told news outlets that one of the captors tried to protect the hostages from being caught in the crossfire. She was also critical of prime minister Olof Palme, as she had negotiated with the captors for freedom, but the prime minister told her that she would have to content herself to die at her post rather than give in to the captors' demands. Ultimately, Enmark explained she was more afraid of the police whose attitude seemed to be a much larger, direct threat to her life than the robbers.]

Hope the ID helps, it's my first time writing one.

Excerpts from “See What You Made Me Do: The Dangers of Domestic Abuse That We Ignore, Explain Away, or Refuse to See” by Jess Hill

Here are some other facts you should know about Nils Bejerot: He had a major influence (this involved founding the "Swedish National Association for a Drug-free Society") on Sweden's zero-tolerance approach to drug use.

And he wrote "Barn, Serier, Samhälle" (Children, Comics, Society), basically the Swedish version of "Seduction of the Innocent"; an infamous anti-comics book by Fredric Wertham that led to the Comics Code Authority.

Bejerot described comic books as a "significant mental hygiene and cultural problem that concerns us all."

This is the man who coined the phrase "Stockholm syndrome", guys.

As a former humanities student, I feel it is my duty to reblog this one.

A tech bro tried to convince me AI was amazing cause "you could make 30,000 screenplays in minutes" not realising that every single one would be shit, you'd have to sift through everything just to find some good bits, time wasted that could've been spent just writing a screenplay.

Technology Brothers know nothing about what goes into creating a work, other than the fact a work has been created to be exploited for cash. They see creativity as an investment opportunity, not a love for humanity.

Matthew Dow Smith: "Just remember: Arts & Humanities are so useless and pointless that Tech Bros were driven to spend billions of dollars to try and get a computer to do something that badly approximates something Arts & Humanities students could do half asleep and wired on coffee the night before the due date."

Honestly tho, that journalist should've known better than to ask Max "I always knew if I made it to F1 Charles would also make it" Verstappen if Ferrari fired the wrong driver. What the fuck did you expect him to say? Have you never interviewed him before? Between Charles and Carlos it's not even a question for Max. Jesus Christ they should fire that journalist on the spot.

Every once in a while i think about "I always thought that if I would make it to F1, Charles would also make it" and "It's not a surprise that we're sitting here together" and i have to sit down for a second because what the fuck, Max. Why are you there dropping poetic ass lines like it's nothing. I don't believe in fate or destiny or whatever but honest to god those two make me rethink everything.

Ive noticed recently that my generation has... no concept of what the various economic classes actually are anymore. I talk to my friends and they genuinely say things like "at least i can afford a middle class lifestyle with this job because i dont need a roommate for my one bedroom apartment" and its like... oughh

You guys, middle class doesnt mean "a stable enough rented roof over your head," it means "a house you bought, a nice car or two, the ability to support a family, and take days off and vacations every year with income to spare for retirement savings and rainy days." If all you have is a rented apartment without a roommate and a used car, you're lower class. That's lower class.

And i cant help but wonder if this is why you get kids on tumblr lumping in doctors and actors into their "eat the rich" rhetoric: economic amnesia has blinded you to what the class divides actually are. The real middle class lifestyle has become so unattainable within a system that relies upon its existence that theyve convinced you that those who can still reach it are the elites while your extreme couponing to afford your groceries is the new normal.

Middle class is being able to live 3 months comfortably without a paying job.

  • listen if you don't have an income that means
  • your shelter cost including utilities is 30% or less (I realize that I have eliminated so many of you just with this one thing)
  • you never EVER have to put off going to the dentist for your routine cleaning
  • you've been watching your savings grow every month and you haven't had to dip into it for more than a year now
  • you have a car, and it's either fairly new or a car you cherish and so you have held onto it because ohana means family and it's in good shape and it suddenly not starting is annoying but not a reason to start a go fund me
  • and you go on vacations every year (maybe not overseas, but you can get away) -- listen to me. you've been boiled like frogs. you are lower class. i'm not even finished the list. people are out there thinking restaurant workers getting $25 an hour is extravagance, but that's $3750 a month before taxes and average rent for a one bedroom apartment here is $1866 a month and internet is $125 and cell phone is $75 and electricity is $250 and we haven't even discussed what Loblaws is charging for a single avocado ($1.99, on special this week) and gas is $1.37 a liter so maybe we should put that avocado back, huh? because we've spent $3500-odd dollars and haven't even put gas in the car yet and i didn't deduct taxes, EI, and CPP

I mean I am using my Context Clues to guess that this thread is US-based, but I can say that about 10-15 years ago in the UK there was a... newspaper? NGO think tank? God I can't remember now. But someone realised that the economic class system in the UK no longer actually represented UK society, and so tried to make another.

Because, of course, that's the thing that no one has mentioned in this thread - classes are social stratas based on wealth, but with culture bolted on. The concept of upper, middle and working class didn't exist for Ancient Rome, which had patricians, equatores, plebians, freedmen and slaves. There's crossover, sure, but their society was structured fundamentally differently enough that the class system we use wouldn't apply - and vice versa.

Anyway, they tried making a new one, and I remember that the majority of my friends fit into one of the new classes. I think the best way to fit it into the old system would be financially working class, culturally middle. Can't remember what they called it, but that was the issue - the fact is, wealth and culture are no longer linked in the way they used to be. So yeah, of course there's a lot of cognitive dissonance involved now when people try to talk about class - we're still using antiquated terms and slapping antiquated political morality onto them when the things they describe no longer exist. Of course no one knows where anyone fits in. No one fits in now.

Edit: just looked it up and found it! Sociologists from UK universities put it together, and the BBC hosted it; looks like you can still take the test and see yours

Researchers from the Australian National University used the same methodology/research to determine the 5 modern classes in Australia (I think the UK one had 7?). ABC hosted the test and it's still available to do here.

This is a friendly reminder to never, ever publish your book with a publishing company that charges you to publish with them. That is a vanity press, which makes money by preying on authors. They charge you for editing, formatting, cover art, and more. With most of these companies, you will never seen a cent of any royalties made from sale of your book. A legitimate publishing company only makes money when you make money, they will never charge you to publish with them. If a company approaches you and says "Hey, we'll publish your book, just pay us X amount of money," tell them to go fuck themself and block them.

Remember, kids: money should only ever flow FROM your publisher TO you.

Here's a very well-maintained resource by the SFWA (Science-Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association) that lists contests/editors/small presses/etc. with predatory behaviours:

Go forth and publish safely!

@selenite0 has a full presentation about shady publishing contracts, this might be something to add to that

But Cas is an angel. He's older than the concept of time. He was there when the world was born. He led armies and destroyed worlds and helped build new ones. He probably put every single atom of gas in the stars. He's as big as the chrysler building. He can burn people to ash with his eyes. He can do things that are incomprehensible to human beings. He always obeyed orders. He's a freaking angel.

But...

He rescues the most complicated human being from hell and a few days of interacting with said human he's suddenly doubting, then he's defying, then he's killing his siblings for said man, he's falling, he's human, he's broken, he's mind controlled to kill clones of said man but he can't kill the real man, he kills heavens most adorable angel but he can't kill this broken, sad, emotional, messy, courageous, loving man in front of him. There's a bounty on his head by all creatures in heaven, hell, purgatory and everything in between. He is a vagabond with no home but he knows, he has always known, his home is Dean. He is himself when he is with Dean. He will do anything and everything for Dean this mortal he could burn to ash. This mortal whose bones he could grind to dust.

But...

He obeys this mortal. When Dean says jump he asks how high. With Dean he becomes this fluffy adorable ball of sunshine that just loves, that becomes more and more human every day. He learns to love, he learns to care, he starts to feel. He literally dies for Dean because he is so happy to confess his love for this man so much so that his deal with the empty comes full circle.

Like all this is not even the half of it. 12 years and you want to tell me that they were not in love with each other?

I can buy that Dean could not comprehend how much Cas loved him because he was an angel and angels feel things differently. But I can never buy that Dean did not love Cas back romantically.

No but you guys do you ever think about how we will see Colin and Penelope being in love? Do you understand how momentous this is? We will see Penelope, as someone who does not conform to society's (bullshit) beauty standard, finally shine as a protagonist that does not follow the usual clichés expected of her place/role in the narrative. And we will see Colin Bridgerton (who also is not your usual romantic lead type, mind you) WILL LOVE HER UNCONDITIONALLY AND COMPLETELY. Do you not grasp how amazing it is? I don't even necessarily care about the sex (i do) but I am just talking about the romance of it all. I want to see Colin Bridgerton being so unapologetically in love with Penelope Featherington he is shouting from the rooftops. He will be ECSTATIC at the idea of marrying her and in the current times where men act like getting married is a chore or a yoke I for one am delighted to see him go absolutely unhinged and feral for Penelope.

As someone who never had that kind of affection, it gives me such a rush of serotoning to think about how happy Colin will be to be marrying Pen.
