two weeks later.
I’ve been here for three months now. I’d like to think that I’m getting used to this place, but I miss living in San Myshuno. Nothing ever happens here, at least back in the city there were festivals. I’m really lucky to have my cat Callisto, the only piece of the city I brought with me that kept me sane for this long.
My friends used to ask me why I chose Strangerville of all places, and I’m starting to question that myself. It sounded perfect in theory: live far away from the urban noise and mind my own business, doing freelance and working on my own pace. And I was doing exactly that. All according to plan. But I feel like I’m going nowhere. This place is going nowhere. It’s like the town is stuck in time, and I start to wonder if Strangerville is in a separate plane of existence, like it is its own pocket dimension, its own closed world —
Okay, maybe those conspiracy theorists are getting to me.
The locals are nice, I guess. Mark, the bartender who works at the 8 Bells Saloon across the street, is the closest person I have for a friend ever since I moved here. In reality, he talks a lot and I just listen, I guess they don’t get many visitors, especially from the city. Apparently bartending is just his side gig to save up funds to move in Del Sol Valley. I’m annoyed by him most of the time, but I’m beginning to enjoy his company. I even began to share stories with him during my time at San Myshuno. I guess at one point he mistook it for romantic interest, and it got awkward. I just don’t feel the same way for him. Thankfully he took it in stride, and we’re back to talking like it never happened. He’s a lot more mature than he’s letting on, and I’m a lot more judgmental than I thought otherwise.
I would chalk up today as another lazy afternoon, but word from the grapevine is that there are people who are acting strange at night, and this time they’re not talking about the conspiracy theorists. People suddenly going rigid and snapping into weird poses, and nobody could talk them out of their trance. I don’t know if it’s alarming or just bizarre, I haven’t seen anything like that yet.
Strangerville is starting to live up to its name.
