Our lives have changed so drastically in the last month. My husband has been there, ready and willing with every request I have, every diaper change, every 2am crying and gassy baby fiasco. And that's nothing compared to the support he gave me birthing our beautiful baby girl. . I'll be filming our birth story today and filling you in on all the details. Practicing the new writerly mom lifestyle with the help of a swing! . So far I haven't written much since Isla was born, but we're both settling down into a routine that makes it much easier to visualize fitting writing into my days. . Our schedule isn't perfect and usually means we're sleeping in until noon, but that's okay. We're both learning and I'm taking the time to appreciate every moment I have with her. Even the 2am to 5am block that she swears is daytime. . I'm finally back to working on TEP2, and while there's loads to be done, I'm excited to be a little closer to finishing this book. . Writing friends are seriously the BEST of friends! @kimwritesbooks, thank you so much for your adorable gift!!! I can't wait to meet my little writing buddy and enter the world of mommy writerhood. I know there will be plenty of challenges and adjustments, but I love that I know such amazing writer moms to seek advice from. Baby will be here in about 2 weeks, and while writing has taken a back burner, I've been super busy prepping as much as I can for baby's arrival. Hey! I'm starting to get really confused with my dialogue, but only with this one issue. My head has a really big habit of character 1 speaking, character 2 reacting (like taking a step back, fearful), and character 1 continuing speaking. In those situations, either I put character 2's reaction in between character 1's speech in the same paragraph, which is jarring age confusing, or I put it in a separate paragraph, which can be choppy. Thoughts?
Speech and action should be separated by character. If character 1 speaks and acts, it's one paragraph. If character 1 speaks, and character 2 acts, you need a new paragraph. Otherwise the reader might get confused and think the action of character 2 means they spoke character 1's line.
I recently found your YouTube and have since created a list of things I want to do to motivate me to write, one being creating an author website. With that said, I haven't decided if I want to use a pen name when I do finally publish, my real name is boring and doesn't role off the tongue like yours and many other authors who you can't help but remember their name. Should I decide and create my pen name now or hold off and just use my real name? Thanks!
If you don't want people knowing it was you behind that pen name, then I would create your website and social media under your chosen pen name. If you plan on using more than one pen name and don't mind people knowing they're all the same writer, then I don't think it matters. Whatever you do, make it totally clear and easy to find out who you're writing under. Hope that helps!
How did you take the photo of your book with the white background like on your website?
My book cover company made that one, but check out a site called Placeit.net. They have layouts you upload your book cover file to and then purchase the final product if you like it. Good luck!
What do you think about having a book with a made up word as the title? Someone told me that my title is dumb because itās not a real word, but I think that nothing fits it better. :(
I don't think it's stupid at all, and writers do it all the time. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is a made up word and they're doing pretty good with that book šI wouldn't make it a word that's too difficult to pronounce, but go for it!
