What if I say I learnt a way to make ts3 run even smoother🙀 The game is currently running on 2.5+gb of RAM and 5+gb of VRAM… This is insane.

I'll explain what I did below, before making any change please back up relevant files and make sure you have a decent computer (or at least a good video card, mine is Nividia RTX 2060 6GB). This method was initially posted by Foul Play in Discord, so a big thanks to them!!! We all know that The Sims 3 is a 32-bit old game that can only use less than 4GB of RAM, making it prone to crash due to memory overflow. Moreover, the game loads some texture memory into RAM, resulting in high RAM usage and low VRAM usage. Even the most powerful computers can't leverage their advantages. Therefore, what we need to do is to allow the game to fully utilize the performance of modern computers, while reducing RAM usage and increasing VRAM usage.

  • Download and install dxvk. Copy the d3d9.dll from the x32 folder to your bin folder (where you installed smooth patch and reshade/gshade). If you have installed reshade/gshade before, you will be prompted to overwrite files, please choose yes. If reshade/gshade stops working after entering the game, reinstall reshade/gshade, and choose Vulkan instead of d3d9 when installing. If you are not familiar with dxvk, it is recommended to check out this post (the 7th page).
  • Download the dxvk.conf file and place it in the same folder. Open this file with Notepad, delete all content, and add the following text. The first line must be added, and the second and third lines are used to set vertical synchronization and frame rate lock (It's just my personal preference, you can set it up based on the documentation on GitHub). d3d9.textureMemory = 1 d3d9.presentInterval = 1 d3d9.maxFrameRate = 75 At this point, you can enter the game and observe if a TS3W.dxvk-cache file is generated in the bin folder. If so, dxvk is successfully installed. After entering the SIMS 3, the game settings will be reset, so you need to back up the original settings or readjust them directly. For me, simply installing dxvk converted the game's RAM usage of over 300MB to VRAM usage. The Sims 3 became more stable. It's harder for it to reach 3.7GB RAM usage and then crash.
  • Next, open your GraphicsRules.sgr, search and find two lines seti MemCacheBudgetValue, which determine the size of the game's VRAM Cache. The values behind represent 200MB (209715200) and 160MB (167772160) respectively. Modify these two values to larger numbers. You can choose according to your computer and then have a test in the game. You can check how much RAM and VRAM the game is using in the Task Manager after modification. If you don't install dxvk, increasing these values will make your RAM usage higher! I set MemCacheBudgetValue to -1 during testing, which represents no limit. Before using dxvk and modifying GraphicsRules.sgr, the game only used less than 1.5GB of VRAM. But now, the game is using over 5GB of VRAM after 2 sims day playing. However, RAM usage continues to increase at the same time and does not remain at a certain size as I expected. Maybe MemCacheBudgetValue should be set to an appropriate size to prevent the game from eventually using over 3.7GB+ of RAM. After applying all these changes, with 6GB of mods and all graphics settings set to the highest, my game now runs as smooth as butter. I recommend you to try these steps above. Results may vary from person to person, so please share your test results in the comments^^

TS3: re:Cerberus – Default Replacement Eye Mesh & Textures

This is a little project I’ve been working on for the past month: a complete default replacement for the eye mesh and textures for Sims of all ages and genders. I realize it’s a bit niche and very specific to my personal taste, but I’m very happy to share it. 🙂

The name is a callback to an old piece of CC I made back in 2022, my first eye texture replacement, which I wound up disliking for a number of reasons and ultimately deleted from my blog.

Would you ever be interested in doing a mod/cc recommendation list? I love the way your game looks!

Hi! Thank you <3

I've actually wanted to put together some sort of CC/mod resources page listing out what I play with for quite a while now! I might get around to it pretty soon now that I have a little more free time. :)

So... I've gone ahead and started working on my Resources page, currently listing all of my defaults and overrides!

The page is already kinda long in its current state, and I haven't even added all of my other CC sources and gameplay mods lol. But I'm finding it a lot of fun putting it all together! ✌️😙

Hey there! I really love the way your sims look and your gameplay screenshots I've seen on Twitter, you should really start posting gameplay here on Tumblr!

Hellooo! Thank you so much :P

Yes, after a while of posting no context screenshots of my aimless play sessions over there, I've definitely thought about making an effort to share some more gameplay here as well. It'd be super cool to introduce all of my Sims and households and show a glimpse into what their lives are like!

Hi! I really loved ur cas lighting mod for the ts3, is it possible to make a lighting mod similar for in game sims?

Hey! Thank you so much 🩷

Honestly, CAS lighting and regular game lighting are quite different! I haven’t really looked into the latter yet, but I would love to try to do some lighting modding at some point and see if anything dope comes out of it. :)

TS3: Nicer Vendors + Ask Animation Edits

This is a combo of two quick and dirty mods I made last summer to solve some animation-related annoyances I had for a while. 💬

Update:

  • Fixed Sims playing the negative animations when the Buy Items interaction is run by clicking on them directly instead of the register.
  • Adjusted animations for the special merchant (WA) and tattoo artist (AMB.) Now they will play the positive animations just like all other vendors.

TS3: Better Greet

Here’s a brand new script mod for you! I got sick of seeing all Sims greet each other with handshakes, so I made this mod to fix and expand upon one of EA’s most annoying oversights in my opinion.

Better Greet overhauls the visual aspect of the Greet social interaction and allows Sims to play diverse greeting animations under different circumstances. See more details on all its features under the cut! 👋

Update:

  • Better Greet is now available in German, thanks to McNero at Mod The Sims!
  • If Historical Mode is enabled, Sims will now greet those with higher celebrity levels with a Proper Bow or Curtsey, and Handshake with Sims of a lower celebrity level. This change is optional and can always be disabled by setting the kCelebCheckForHistorical field in the mod's Tuning file to False.

The Sims 3: Showtime (Singer Profession OST)

This is not a game mod! Just something I put together for fun. :)

Ever since Showtime came out I really enjoyed the songs from the Singer profession, but I'd never been able to find them uploaded in good quality anywhere online. So after over a decade of waiting and searching, I decided I'd just do it myself!

I extracted every song directly from the game files using TS3 Sound Tool. The songs are actually divided into sections, so really I had to grab all the pieces of each song and make full tracks out of them. In the end I had 58 different tracks: every song performed by female and male vocalists in every possible arrangement (in-game, the arrangement of the song changes depending on the venue you're playing a show at.)

With that out of the way, I also went ahead and made everything look a little prettier: I gave all the songs proper file names and titles, grabbed some official key art to use as the album cover, and tagged each file to organize the tracks into three discs, one for each arrangement, with the tracks being numbered in the same order that you unlock each song in the game.

Full disclosure: I did no editing to the files besides arranging the sections into full songs, so what you get is exactly what you hear in-game. I also used the internal file names as a reference for which arrangement each song was in, which may or may not perfectly match the availability of each song arrangement during gameplay.

The final result is a full album with everything already laid out pretty neatly that you can just plop into your iTunes or wherever you listen to music. You could also theoretically put these files in your Sims games as custom music, but YMMV – you may have to convert the files into a different bitrate and whatnot for them to play properly, not really sure.

Have fun 🤍

Update:

  • Better Greet is now available in Chinese (zh-TW) and Russian, thanks to Little Duck Liu and @hydro1st!
  • Check Gender now only performs checks within the Greet social. This means that, even if it's enabled, you can still direct two Sims of any gender to use the Double Cheek Kiss Gesture if you want.
  • Added checks to the Gesture interactions so that they won't appear in the pie menu if a Sim is asleep.

Updated!

  • Added the Gesture... pie menu category for all Sims. Gestures allow your Sim to greet others with the animation of your choice and are available at any time.
  • As suggested by @echoweaver, added a Historical Mode that replaces the default Wave greetings with Proper Bow and Curtsey (requires Supernatural), and disables some greetings that wouldn't fit very well outside of a modern setting, like High Five and Shaka Bra.
  • As suggested by @anitmb, added some string replacements:
  • Ask to Leave / Ask Everyone to Leave have been renamed to Goodbye / Goodbye to Everyone.
  • Corrected Invite Over strings for es-ES and es-MX to better reflect that you are inviting a Sim to the current lot, not just the active Sim's home.
  • Added Portuguese (pt-BR) strings, thanks to Aeri!
