"The Bride"
RIP to Walnut, the crane who took her keeper for a mate. The stuff of a dark fairytale.

Google Maps is worse than useless - actively harmful
Hard to overstate how enshittified and botshitted Google Maps has become. Went looking for my local locksmith on Gmaps. Maps shows 20+ fake locksmith referral scam outlets and doesn't even register the real locksmith, despite it being fully visible in Street View.
Instead, a red pin on the shop identifies it as a fake locksmith scammer. The real locksmith - which has been there SINCE 1942 (!!) and is a verified merchant - doesn't even show up.
Google has been promising to clean up locksmith scams since the early 2010s, and has completely failed. A company that can't figure this out - but still has $80b for a stock buyback! - does not deserve the 90% market share in search it spends $26b/year to maintain.
A Chinese takeout place in my area has the word "Garden" in its name and is listed incorrectly as a garden instead of a restaurant. I submitted a correction. It was rejected. Google Maps is starting to trust its AI over actual humans and its showing.
after MONTHS of trying to get the museum's hours fixed on google we got a call "to let us clarify our hours over the phone." after four of us spent 30 minutes explaining to the bot on the other end we just gave up, with our hours still not corrected
Perfect alternative! Ruled by users, like my husband, who input up to date information of the area! Opening hours, accessibility, road type, etc, it's all there!
You know, it's kinda funny how much of high fantasy centers around kings and nobility and courtly intrigue considering that the archetypal high fantasy, Lord of the Rings, had the rather explicit moral of "saving the world is up to this backwater hick and his gardener because no politician, least of all inherited nobility, would have the ability to see past their own ambition and throw away a weapon". Oh sure, Aragorn is a great king and all, but there's a reason he's over there running a distraction ring while the hobbits do the real work. Sauron loses because he gets distracted by kings and armies and great battles (i.e. typical high fantasy stuff) letting Frodo and Sam sneak through his back door and blow it all to hell.
Just saying, maybe old Jirt knew what he was saying when he said that the small folk doing their best and holding to each other was more powerful than a dozen alliances and superweapons and we should respect him for it.

if you invite me to your home and there are animals of any sort inside that home, i am no longer there to visit you, i am there for the animals, i have come for the beasts and you just happen to be there
They should invent a job that i actually want to do

Can you hold your bow at full draw? And should you?
Either way it does look cool sometimes, I’ll give them that!

Coming to the defense of my fave Horizon Zero Dawn (shown briefly), the controller does start vibrating in your hands if you hold the string back too long, and the character of Aloy is visibly shaking and tense. The player is still allowed to keep the bow drawn indefinitely (games are designed to let you win after all), but the animation shows the character is not at ease.
hot take but i don't think men should be allowed to make art about medusa
no actually the thing that would be most baffling thing about the fairy walrus thing is if they're knocking on *my* door it implies I have some real estate or perhaps an apartment of my own
Living on my own is really the most baffling thing about either situation. Would never realistically happen in this eceonomy.
