A lot of modders have been steadily moving to Modrinth to publish their mods, but a lot of mods and modpacks are stil available only through CurseForge or FTB apps (FTB is partnered with Overwolf).

if you are using the CurseForge launcher, I'm here to tell you that you can very easily migrate to PrismLauncher.

Thankfully, the CurseForge launcher offers a convenient way to extract your instances (profiles as it calls it) which you can then import into Prism.

Go into your profile and press the 3 dots. There, click "Export profile"

Select all the files and folders

This will create a zip file of your instance and open the folder in which it saved it. Just drag and drop the zip into Prism.

With certain modpacks, Prism will show you a message saying some mods aren't available for download through 3rd party launchers. It will give you a link to the mod as well as the folder which it is watching. Just manually download that mod into that folder and Prism will take it and put it where it needs to.

Ta-da! Your instance is now on a different launcher, with all your worlds and settings.

ngl I thought the puzzle piece as an autistic symbol meant like. I am a vital puzzle piece to your society. humans would never have invented half the things they did without us. you're telling me it means I'm missing something?? buddy. listen. listen to me reeeeaal closely. no human has all the pieces to humanity. no one. no one has all the features enables no one has all the strengths weaknesses or quirks. no one has a whole puzzle. we make the freaking complete picture together. that's the freaking point.

Neurotypicals are encouraged to reblog this btw but if you think I'm broken for being autistic I'll break your bones

Twitter (2020) VS the Hays code (1930)

Maybe the Hayes code wasn’t that bad

Avatar
solitarelee

Imagine knowing this little about history. The Hays code we’re so apparently keen to bring back included the following:

  • “Miscegenation” (interracial relationships) were not allowed.
  • Sex hygiene and venereal diseases were not appropriate subjects.
  • Homosexuality was not to be depicted.
  • Ridicule of the clergy was not allowed.
  • Religion could never be depicted in a mocking manner.
  • Words like “God,” “Lord,” “Jesus,” “Christ,” “hell,” and “damn” could not be used unless it was in connection with religious ceremonies.

But yeah let’s fucking bring back the Hays code because sex is evil. You fucking lemmings. The point is that the Hays code was a horrible, immoral piece of bullshit that was only there to enforce white supremacy and Christianity on screen, and the reason people compare you to them is because of this absolutely brain-numbing tomfoolery.

Good lord, we’ve really reached “maybe the Hayes code was good” levels of purity culture. Yikes.

Because of the Hayes Code, women were no longer portrayed as independent beings. Instead they were reduced to mere appendages to men.

It’s driving me nuts because I can’t find the quote, but one of the rationales for the Code I read in a film history book was (paraphrased) “If it’s not fit for a child to watch, then it’s not fit for anyone.” And gosh, doesn’t THAT sound familiar…

Homosexuality actually could be depicted under the Hayes Code! By irredeemable villains!! Or people who died because of it!!!

If you’ve ever wondered why media has so much sh*tty stereotypes about homosexuality and villainy, or the bury your gays trope exists, well look no further than the Hayes Code and its wide reaching impact on generations of media makers! Our current rating system? Was actually an improvement on the Hayes Code.

Feel free to miss me with that bullsh*t, thanks.

I just can’t with the “don’t make fun of us for defending the Hays Code! How are we supposed to know what that even is?”

You. Look. It. Up. You look it up. YOU LOOK IT UP. You do what you should be doing every single time you see something you don’t understand. You fuckin look it up. You have libraries of information in your pocket. Look it up. You do not have an excuse for not opening another tab, typing in the thing, and hitting enter. Look it up.

And if you’re LGBTQIA, Bipoc, non-xtian, or a woman in the US, and you spend any time looking up your history, you will see the Hays Code. It’s not just a silly old rule that we can laugh at now. It’s the framework we’re trying to dismantle. You need to know this. You should’ve been taught by your parents and teachers, but if you weren’t, you have to pick up the slack and do the research yourself. That sucks and I’m sorry, but it’s an unavoidable part of life.

See, this is that critical thinking stuff that purity culture is so obsessed with. You cannot interpret a thing (like “sex scenes are only for horny lol” being juxtaposed with the Hays Code) if you don’t know

  • the meaning of the language (the definitions of “sex,” “story,” “passion,” etc), the topics referenced (the Hays Code, what sex scenes are),
  • the speakers (Lily Orchard is notoriously aggressive, bigoted, and authoritarian… the Hays Code was written by a priest, a trade paper editor, and some studio heads),
  • or the context (the first statement is part of a ridiculous list of “writing tips” that also includes such gems as [paraphrased] wlw only kissing at the end is abuse, high-stakes conflict is bad, and the good guy must kill the villain, and was written in 2020… while the Hays Code was written in 1930 as a way to self-censor bc they thought the govt might step in if anyone saw their media as “lowering the moral standards” of ppl with “succeptible minds,” aka women, children, the disabled, and poor ppl who needed to be spoon-fed images of the “correct standards of life”).

You really do need that info. You do. You need to go get it. Then you look at it. And you combine it with all of the other applicable info you have. (For example, if you have had sex, or consumed any media containing sex.) Then you think through the thing, while taking everything you know into account. You identify what it was supposed to mean, and decide what it means to you. Congratulations! You have done the critical thinking.

At least if you still agree that sex’s only purpose in literature is to give you a boner, and that it’s a good idea to put down sweeping policies to prevent that from happening, you’ll have some kind of thought process behind it. And you can start trying to reconcile that view with its historical and present effects on minorities and society as a whole.

And if you don’t know what those effects are, FUCKIN LOOK IT UP

GOSH, I WONDER WHY PEOPLE WANT TO BURN AND BAN BOOKS ALL OF A SUDDEN. WHAT IGNORANCE AND EVIL COULD POSSIBLY FUEL THIS ENTIRELY UNEXPECTED DEVELOPMENT.

“Get a rat and put it in a cage and give it two water bottles. One is just water, and one is water laced with either heroin or cocaine. If you do that, the rat will almost always prefer the drugged water and almost always kill itself very quickly, right, within a couple of weeks. So there you go. It’s our theory of addiction. Bruce comes along in the ’70s and said, “Well, hang on a minute. We’re putting the rat in an empty cage. It’s got nothing to do. Let’s try this a little bit differently.” So Bruce built Rat Park, and Rat Park is like heaven for rats. Everything your rat about town could want, it’s got in Rat Park. It’s got lovely food. It’s got sex. It’s got loads of other rats to be friends with. It’s got loads of colored balls. Everything your rat could want. And they’ve got both the water bottles. They’ve got the drugged water and the normal water. But here’s the fascinating thing. In Rat Park, they don’t like the drugged water. They hardly use any of it. None of them ever overdose. None of them ever use in a way that looks like compulsion or addiction. There’s a really interesting human example I’ll tell you about in a minute, but what Bruce says is that shows that both the right-wing and left-wing theories of addiction are wrong. So the right-wing theory is it’s a moral failing, you’re a hedonist, you party too hard. The left-wing theory is it takes you over, your brain is hijacked. Bruce says it’s not your morality, it’s not your brain; it’s your cage. Addiction is largely an adaptation to your environment. […] We’ve created a society where significant numbers of our fellow citizens cannot bear to be present in their lives without being drugged, right? We’ve created a hyperconsumerist, hyperindividualist, isolated world that is, for a lot of people, much more like that first cage than it is like the bonded, connected cages that we need. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection. And our whole society, the engine of our society, is geared towards making us connect with things. If you are not a good consumer capitalist citizen, if you’re spending your time bonding with the people around you and not buying stuff—in fact, we are trained from a very young age to focus our hopes and our dreams and our ambitions on things we can buy and consume. And drug addiction is really a subset of that.”

I sent a letter today - something I haven’t done for years

It’s full of plastic bread clips

It’s for Science

At the risk of loosing some mystery, I think I should add some context:

There’s this website-I mean, scientific organization called the Holotypic Occlupanid Reasurch Group.

They are a group of abiologists who study and classify Bread clips.

I found a species that has not yet been described:

Yay for citizen science 👍

wtf?

Avatar
meckamecha

Apparently HORG is widely appreciated by pediatricians since knowing exactly what kind of Occlupanid a child may have swallowed makes removing it safely much easier

IIRC this is actually part of the reason HORG was started. A man swallowed a breadclip and the clip closed around part of his tissue linings (in his intestines I think?). The specific shape and flexibility of the clip were significant determining factors in the removal process, as some bread clips have spikes and prongs that would have made extraction more complicated. They started the taxonomy so they could work out extraction techniques for each type.

MASS DEATH IS IMMINENT IN GAZA

The U.N. warns that 1.1 million Palestinians are at imminent risk of death, as the crushing toll of the siege reaches its lethal and final stages. In North Gaza particularly, there is little time left before hundreds of thousands of people will die of hunger.

Time is almost up for over a million people. The US and its allies bear full responsibility for what can only be described as an impending holocaust. Without an immediate change of course that includes the provision of mass amounts of aid into Gaza and sanctioning Israel, mass death from starvation is a guarantee.

It is extremely important that this isn't just "more of the same" here. They're out of food, it is getting worse. Integrated Food Security Phase Classification is an organization for studying food insecurity, and they have a scale for how bad food insecurity is. Gaza has BEEN in phase 4 for a long time now, and that's already what is called "emergency". Its bad. But they only now have been upgraded to phase 5, outright famine.

Gaza is the only place in the world to have this level of food insecurity right now.

This isn't "more on-going cruelty" like I have heard from so many. This has changed to "no, this community is currently collapsing, and will completely die out if we do not do something NOW to at least take them from 'dying' to 'starving'". This is acute food insecurity on an unimaginable and unsurvivable scale. Contact whoever you need to immediately, because it literally does not get worse. This is the part where the genocide could fucking its goals if you do not do something to spurn your government into action.

Fruits, vegetables and wines from Israel are often wrongly labelled as “Produce in Israel” when they come from stolen Palestinian land. Boycott all produce from Israel in your supermarket and demand they are removed from shelves.

thank you @leandra-winchester for making the graphic above! if any of you are active on other social platforms, you have her permission to use the image however you want (no credit required)

keep in mind, though, that this isn't a complete list: you should still check the origin labels on other types of fruit and veggies, and see if any local orgs have produced a more complete breakdown of israeli produce that's specific to your country

Since I'm seeing several questions in the comments and it's something I've looked into a bit, here's some additional info:

  • In the EU, US and Canada, produce is required to have a label/sticker that cites its origin. (I believe UK as well)
  • If you're in the US, some of these produce (especially avocado) are not very likely to come from Israel, however, in the EU they can. Most avocados still come from Middle/South America, but I remember buying some a few years ago and only seeing the "produce of Israel" sticker at home. Unlikely doesn't mean never though. Always check the labels!
  • Dried fruits or in any way processed fruits, veggies and crops are more likely to be imported into North America. There should also be a "made/produced/manufactured in" line on the packaging.
  • As a rule of thumb, the closer to Israel you are - i.e. Europe - the more likely you'll find Israeli produce in your supermarkets, particularly produce that grows in a warm subtropical climate.
  • Produce isn't all that Israel is exporting. Here's a list of imports into the US by product groups. https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/imports/israel So it's worth checking any manufacturing labels on products you want to buy. The same goes for the EU and the UK of course.
  • PRIVATE BOYCOTTS ARE NOT ILLEGAL! There are laws in the US and other places that prohibit or sanction BDS measures against Israel, but that only goes for public persons and companies who openly participate in BDS. As a company, you can still say "We got a better offer for this product from country XY", but you're not allowed to say you are deliberately doing this because you want to boycott Israel. As a private person, however, nobody can force you to buy anything or even control what you buy or refuse to buy in the first place. So don't worry about that.

@heritageposts Would you mind reblogging this again as you have a far greater reach than I?

And as heritageposts already said, feel absolutely free to use ANY info, text, and the above graphic anywhere, however you see fit (copy paste, modify, resize, whatever). This is not about credit and proper sourcing, it's solely about the cause!

eSims for Gaza is facing constant eSim shortages.

They get over a thousand requests for connection a day, but their email inbox is regularly sitting at 300-500 eSims. With the bombardment of Rafah and continual internet blackouts, the need for more eSims is particularly urgent.

Even if you have already sent an eSim or donated to an eSim donation drive, there is more you can do. The team is calling for people to campaign in their communities to help spread the word about eSims and encourage donations.

You can help by printing out posters and putting them up in local businesses, on telephone poles and notice boards, or wherever people are likely to see them.

[ID: Poster headed “eSIMs for Gaza” with an illustration of a red poppy, a QR code, and a link to tinyurl.com/gaza-esims; copy reads “Sending eSIMs is an immediate, concrete way to help Gazans on the ground. Scan below to learn how you can get involved.” End ID]

Or make your own poster, pamphlet, or protest sign with one of these QR codes:

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.

Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.

i'm begging you guys to start pirating shit from streaming platforms. there are so many websites where you can stream that shit for free, here's a quick HOW TO:

1) Search for: watch TITLE OF WORK free online

2) Scroll to the bottom of results. Click any of the "Complaint" links

3) You will be taken to a long list of links that were removed for copyright infringement. Use the 'find' function to search for the name of the show/movie you were originally searching for. You will get something like this (specifics removed because if you love an illegal streaming site you don't post its url on social media)

4) each of these links is to a website where you can stream shit for free. go to the individual websites and search for your show/movie. you might have to copy-paste a few before you find exactly what you're looking, but the whole process only takes a minute. the speed/quality is usually the same as on netflix/whatever, and they even have subtitles! (make sure to use an adblocker though, these sites are funded by annoying popups)

In conclusion, if you do this often enough you will start recognizing the most dependable websites, and you can just bookmark those instead. (note: this is completely separate from torrenting, which is also a beautiful thing but requires different software and a vpn)

you can also download the media in question (look for a "download" button built into the video window, or use a browser extension such as Video DownloadHelper.)

if the "Complaint" links are not visible for you:

  • Option 1: try the DuckDuckGo search engine instead (bonus: dedicated to privacy! doesn't track your data!)
  • Option 2: go directly to LumenDatabase.org (the website that collects the complaints--and therefore the removed links) and search for the title you want. look for results titled "DMCA (Copyright) Complaint to Google" featuring the media you're looking for. Proceed to Step 3 (above).

What happened this time?

youtube is forcing a hardcoded 5 second loading time for videos being played back on firefox for no reason other than it's not chrome

you can add the following to your personal ublock filters to fix:

www.youtube.com##+js(nano-stb, resolve(1), *, 0.001)

it changes the timer to .001 seconds, effectively removing it

i dont know what you guys are talking about but that may be because i keep my ublocko filters up to date + youtube nonstop extension

YouTube is creating delays hard coded into the website for non-chrome browsers that don’t exist for any reason but annoying people into using chrome, so some ublock folks found a filter that alters the specific part of the website that changes the delay to make it so short as to be unnoticeable.

to apply the filter, click on the ublock extension, go to my filters, copy/paste the above filter, and update filters and you should be good.

It’s possible that you haven’t seen it yet because YouTube has tended to roll out their anti adblock stuff in waves and unevenly

Seems like Google programming their website specifically to fuck with the experience of anyone using a competitor's browser is the sort of thing antitrust lawsuits love to see.

Fascinating trend I’ve noticed from lurking in Frankenstein-related tags:

If there’s a male construct, people frame him as the creator’s child. He has full agency and personhood and deserves to be raised in a family. The most obvious example of this is Frankenstein’s Creature, but you’ll see echoes of it with creators of robots, Pinocchio, etc.

If there’s a female construct, people frame it as expected that she’s created to be a romantic/sexual object. I saw a few posts that Pygmalion is morally superior to Victor Frankenstein because he fell in love with his creation, for instance. I don’t need to go into the dozens of “make a female robot and fall for her” tropes.

The most uncomfortable intersection of this dichotomy are the countless posts insisting that it was Victor’s duty as a father to create a female to gift to his son—and that the “wait but she’ll be an actual person of her own” reservations Victor had in the book were immoral. He owes his son (male construct = family, agency, personhood) the gift of a person (female construct = object, no agency, not family). She wouldn’t be a daughter, just “the Bride.” Nothing about Víctor owing her happiness, but the exact opposite: that she must be custom-designed to be miserable and rejected so she’d be trapped with the male-creature.

For a piece of literature where personhood is such a central theme, it’s a disturbing and disappointing trend.
