Minho walked into the dusty, dirty building. Haechan close behind him. They could already hear the cheers of the occupants inside. The usual adrenaline beginning to enter both their blood streams, must have been a psychological reaction at this point from the years that they’ve been doing this. Minho looks behind him to the younger boy. “He’s here?”

Haechan nods. “Yup, or at least that’s what the sleaze told me.”

Minho rolls his eyes, at this point it was a 50/50 chance that the old man would be here, and that was also nothing new. “Whatever, let’s just get the over with.”

“I’ll be at the front if you need me.” Haechan says, placing a hand on Minho’s shoulder before breaking off and wandering down the hall that went to the right. There was broken glass, pipes and destroyed furniture scattered all across the dusty cement floors. But that’s to be expected when you occupy an abandoned building. 

Minho continues walking forward, the cheers and chants from the crowd ahead getting louder with each couple of steps he took. He walked by the closed door to a tattered room that Minho has spent one too many minutes in his life time in that exact room. It was meant to be the unofficial ‘office’ of the building, that lead the man responsible for Minho being here tonight. Honestly, Minho just wanted to stay at his apartment tonight, hang with the guys, and text the girl that’s been plaguing his mind since last night at the party. But he had a debt to pay, he had connections with the wrong people, and he couldn’t ignore them if he wanted to have a future different to his lazy, selfish, hateful father that left Minho with his issues while he drank himself to an early grave. He didn’t have the time to lead a normal college life. Minho continues walking, ignores the door to the old man he should probably check-in with, but then again, Minho isn’t new to this routine, and doesn’t need to be debriefed about the upcoming activities that are about to take place. Not to mention, not wanting to interact with the man more than he already has to, the interactions always leaving him feeling sick to his stomach.

With his hands in his sweatpant’s pockets Minho finally enters the main room in the center of the building, lit by various light bulbs hanging from the excessively high ceiling. A crowd, responsible for the loud cheers within the room, while in the center of the make-shift circle that the crowd created, were mats laying on the floor, with two men beating the shit out of each other on top of them. Minho takes in this part of his world not many know about - which he plans on keeping that way. Today, Minho would make $5, 000 to fight another man either into unconsciousness or tapping out, and all that money would go to the $120, 000 that his father built up in debt for his bad decisions that Minho now had to clean up. It was a twisted and cruel joke of fate. The circle of illegal activity and bad decisions. But, whether it was a blessing or a curse, by now, he’s been able to desensitize himself to it all, and it’s now just another day in his life.

Minho takes in the scene, feeling his survival instincts kick in, he may not feel like he belongs many places, but here, here was Minho’s world and he was the main character in it.

Epilepsy folks, can you please help a fellow epileptic for a moment?

I’m an epileptic student and aspiring entrepreneur wishing to create a product to help those with epilepsy and photosensitivity engage safely and comfortably in social events such as concerts and nightclubs. I’ve created a survey to gather qualitative and quantitative data from those who deal with the condition to see what attitudes and experiences are like across the globe, to then present to the State organisation, Enterprise Ireland.
