Would you consider adding more to the Dawn AU? Because it is I think the best constructed reality thing I've seen, and you were great to Dawn's character. I'd love to see something with the Wishverse, maybe Hush, Tara, really just all the things. I must have moooore.

Hey! So sorry I didn’t answer this for a month - I am not on tumblr much these days (and tbh, my inbox never seems to give me message notifications anyway).

I’m afraid my fandom and gif-making days are both behind me at this point. I mean, no guarantees that I won’t return to them someday, but these days my offline life is keeping me pretty busy. I so appreciate the nice words though!

I had a big list of Dawn AU ideas somewhere that I never got around to making. Maybe someday I’ll write a collection of short-story fanfics to complete it :)

onehundredandonethings: I am finishing my PhD and this post revived me, made my hair shiny, and caused my crops to grow. Thank you ans also yaaaaaaay so happy for you!!!!

I nearly didn’t even publish this post because it felt very braggy and unnecessary but this is exactly why I went ahead with it. I would’ve really liked to know about success stories in my last couple years of school, because it really did all feel kind of hopeless toward the end there. It gets so much better!!

life updates, again

it’s been like eight months but i do feel like i kinda left you guys hanging with that last one lol

  • I successfully defended my dissertation and finished my PhD. It was kind of a rough experience, because I somehow got the world’s most hellish external examiner, but whatever; it’s over and now I get to check “doctor” on all my paperwork. (Funny enough: my workplace has 3 Sarah’s on staff, and they frequently distinguish me by calling me “Dr. Sarah”, to my great delight.)
  • Also, my new job is WONDERFUL. I was so worried about finding a decent job after graduating, but it all worked out beautifully. I find my work interesting, and I’m barely supervised, and I love my colleagues, and they pay me well - it’s really just about the best setup I could have imagined.
  • I was also very worried about making new friends when I moved cities, because there have been times in my life when I found it really difficult to make new friends. But I made a concerted and serious effort to be friendly/social this year, and it really paid off for me; I’ve established a couple lovely little circles of friends already and I’m really happy about it. I do miss my grad school friends very much, though.
  • I turned 30 last month and I feel good. Really ready to embody the thirty, flirty and thriving thing.
  • Although for some reason, I’ve been having some problems with binge-eating again lately (a nasty habit that I thought I’d managed to eradicate in the last couple years). I can’t explain why it’s started again, because I’m not under any particular stress right now, but I hope I will find ways to manage it soon.
  • I’m making my first offer on a house this week! Chances are good I won’t get it, but still, it feels like a really big step and I’m proud to be in a position where I can own my own place.
  • I have a 2nd nephew arriving in a couple months! I can’t wait to meet him!

In general, I kind of can’t believe how much better life has gotten since I finished school. It’s almost a little funny to me that I had so much anxiety about this transition (although certainly understandable, because it was all so uncertain and it COULD have worked out way differently than it did.) But post-PhD life is good, friends, and I’m very very grateful.

life updates, because I haven’t even reblogged anything in over a month and i like to pretend y’all are wondering what’s going on with me

  • my phd is basically finished! I’m done writing my dissertation and have passed through the first-stage defense (within my department). i have my “real”/university-wide defense coming up in july. i’ll be dr. sarah before you know it.
  • and thank god, because the stress of writing my dissertation + working 3 part-time jobs + being on the full-time job market all at the same time got so bad last term that it actually landed me in the ER one night in april because i had chest pain and felt like i couldn’t breathe. i’m fine, and it’s under control now, but it was pretty scary at the time.
  • thankfully, the job search paid off: i somehow managed to land myself a really cool-sounding job with awesome people, which starts before i even graduate. (and it’s full-time, ongoing, with benefits and a freaking pension plan - ??????)... anyway, i start next week! after six years of grad school it is really nice to feel valued and respected. i cannot wait.
  • i’m in the throes of moving! it’s terrible! i’m not going far, but i’m moving back closer to my family, and i’m pretty dang happy about it.
  • also i’m gonna buy a condo/townhouse soon?? not a sure thing but i think that’s where i’m headed.
  • only sad note: i have to move away from all my friends. i always knew this was coming... it’s the reality of grad school. but it’s still hard and i desperately wish i could take them all with me.
  • but overall this update is a big yay and i’m so excited for my post-phd life to finally begin. i’ve been waiting for this for a long time and it’s all working out better than i could’ve hoped for! life is good, friends.

Canadians right now as Right Wingers take over our provincial governments one by one

Context (in case this post spreads outside of the Canadian side of Tumblr):

Current Ideology of Canada’s Provincial and Territorial Governments:

Blue = Conservative (Centre Right to Right Wing)

Red = Liberal (Centrists)

Orange = New Democratic Party (NDP) - Centre-Left.

Oh and we have a Federal Election coming up in October and the Conservative Party of Canada is lead by a Social Conservative who opposes LGBTQ rights and Abortion, and who openly fraternalizes with White Supremacists and Islamophobes. 🙃

Two of those provinces went Conservative (blue) in the last ~11 months, which really does not bode well for the upcoming October 2019 Federal election.  Under our current electoral system, First Past The Post (FPTP) the votes are counted from East to West, so the election is decided before the (comparatively more left-leaning)  West Coast vote is even counted.

Actually 4 provinces went Conservative in the past year:

Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

This post really took off, and I’m pleasantly surprised with the responses of concern from non-Canadians.

I’m not trying to be an asshole but 90% of the important Canadian issues that me and other Canadian Politics bloggers write about get routinely ignored by everyone on this site.

For those that want to prevent a Conservative hell from taking over Canada, please follow this blog and the other left-leaning Canadian Politics blogs below, and boost our content. We are all trying to prevent to worst of this from happening and countering the current Conservatives already in power, but we need your help.

Its hard for this message to be spread on Tumblr because of how US-centric this site is and how unlikely Canadian content is to be shared by non-Canadians.

Not on tumblr? Good I have a list of 300+ informational and left-leaning twitter accounts that post almost solely about Canadian issues:

This post is getting reblogged again, which I’m happy to see; and I’ve noticed many new followers, so welcome! :) Please continue sharing.

Unfortunately since I made this post another province has gone Conservative…sort of. The Prince Edward Island election was on April 23rd, 2019.

Prince Edward’s Island’s government is still up in the air because no party won a majority of seats (so a coalition or some other agreement may keep one party in power), but unfortunately the Conservatives in that province won the most seats. The only positive is that the Green Party got the 2nd most seats.

Really hoping for a miracle that we can avoid a Conservative Federal Government this fall. I’ll be doing all I can through this blog to help resist this terrible popular wave of Conservatives and push for the most progressive alternatives.

At first, I looked at that map and thought, “that’s not so bad,” then I realized that blue = conservative.

Yeah in Canada Blue is Conservative, Centrist Liberals are Red and our most left party is Orange (NDP).

I believe in the USA the Red and Blue colours are reversed from what they are in Canada.

Also, don’t let the relative sizes fool you, in total those blue provinces account for 82.3% of Canada’s population. Orange is 13.4%, as big as the red patches are they are 4.1% of the population, and the white patches are 0.2%.

We’re in danger!!! @ my followers with massive followings, please reblog this!! I currently live in Ontario (Fuck Ford) and with what he’s doing to our education funding, I can’t even go back to university because I can no longer afford it. And I go to university all the way in Alberta (Fuck Kenney), so I have to pay tuition, plus residence fees, plus airfare, plus anything that the university wants from me. I can only imagine that this is the same for my other Ontario friends who go out of province and out of country for education. I’m typing this up half asleep, but basically we need to get a majority Orange nation in the next federals.
