Want to learn something new in 2024??

Coding in Python - one of the most flexible and adaptable high-level programming languages out there - explained through projects making video games

Learn to swim! (for adult learners. I don’t care if you live in Kansas or Mali or wherever. LEARN TO SWIM.)

[Learn about quantum mechanics again, but in a more advanced engineering/mathematics class. Then read more about the math and physics of it]

Something I learned this year: how to sew a quilt (Here’s a very easy beginning pattern that looks amazing and can be done with pre-cut fabric!)

How (American income) taxes & tax law work (choose “audit course” at checkout for free class)

Pickleball for beginners (so you can finally join your neighbor/friend/distant cousin who is always insisting you join their team)

School is so much more fun when there’s no tests:

The Scions and their signature scents

Estinien: coffee, cardamom, smoke

Strong coffee for early mornings and late nights flavored with cardamom as a favorite picked up from his time in Radz-at-Han. Intertwined with the faint smell of woodsmoke which clings to him constantly.

Alphinaud: clove, cinnamon, cream

Warm, comforting scents that parallel Estinien’s, though mostly by accident. Clove and cinnamon invite others to stay close beside him. (Not to mention that Arenvald has a great love for cinnamon sweets.) Their warmth and spice is balanced out by a base of vanilla cream.

Alisaie: raspberry, amber, vanilla

Sweet raspberry with the deeper scents of amber and vanilla — a perfect balance for Alisaie’s compassion in combination with her fierce determination and courage. She had her perfume mixed specifically for her and is quietly proud of it, but she will never admit it.

Y’shtola: lavender, cedar, ash

The sophisticated and calming scent of lavender combined with cedar wood, also incredibly practical as it protects her clothing and possessions (including any precious tomes) from months and insects. Underneath this is the barely perceptible smell of ash which follows the Avatar of Destruction wherever she goes.

Thancred: gun oil, sandalwood, whiskey

Sandalwood from his clothes and soap form the base of his scent. The first bar of artisan soap was a gift from Minfilia, flung at his head along with a pointed complaint about smelling like a bar room floor. He still buys bars of it from the same vendor in Ul’dah. Gun oil from his hands and whiskey from his breath mingle together as he works late into the night.

Urianger: lilac, parchment, black tea

Bright, cheerful lilac reminds the other Scions of Il Mheg with some concern, but it delights Urianger. He applies it to his neck and wrists every morning like a ritual. The scent compliments an undertone created by the books and tea that Urianger is never far from.

G’raha Tia: bergamot, orange, salt

Bergamot tea and orange sweets from his latest three-day studying session. (He would have forgotten to eat altogether, but Krile and Tataru intervened.) These sweet top notes overlay the sea salt scent which is the Crystal Tower’s magic. During his time as the Crystal Exarch, he did his best to cover the salt smell with jasmine perfume that made Lyna sneeze.
