Guys… I just have to… okay listen

I picked up the Lighting Thief while in was at a Target with my mom while I was in 8th grade. I hated reading. I hated it. I’d rather do a multiplication table test then partake in popcorn reading (if you know you know, and if you know how much I HATE math that means something).

I’m sitting here right now post-episode 8 (yes I did cry like a baby thank you for asking) watching the behind the scenes documentary A Hero’s Journey.

8th grade me could have NEVER imagined the journey PJO would take. Or the journey I would take in the years of The Lightning Thief to the Sun and the Star, all the way to a freaking faithful series adaptation.

PJO introduced me to fandom. I remember seeking out PJO fan fiction because The Lost Hero came out, there was no Percy, and it was going to be a year long wait to figure out where this “other camp” was. I remember finding every Viria fan art I could find. It’s not even funny how many times over I’ve watched the Viria “How Far We’ve Come” music art video since the drop of episode 1

PJO taught me to love reading. PJO lead me to Hunger Games, Legend and The Young Elites, Rot & Ruin, The Hate U Give, An Ember in the Ashes, Born A Crime, Island of Sea Women, Alex Rider, A Woman of No Importance, Skyhunter, Eragon, Barrackkn: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo”, The Sun is Also A Star, Revolution for Dummies, and so so so so many more. It’s because of PJO that I have flown on the backs of dragons, won and lost revolutions, been to the ends of Tartarus and Isihogo (Twice!), saw the world through a spy’s eyes, been the villain, been the hero, and lived more lives than one is allowed to live in one life.

That 8th grader in Target had no idea what she was getting herself into. And I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Thank you Uncle Rick. Thank you to the whole Disney+ Team that made this season reality.

Uncle Rick. Thank you for a million of your stories, and a million more that you opened up to me.

Missed opportunity in episode 5:

When Annabeth talked Hephaestus into letting Percy out of the chair:

Percy stands up

Hephaestus: “you’re a good kid Annabeth. I’ll put in a good word to your mom.”

Hephaestus : *walks away*

Percy: *looks at Annabeth*

Percy: “What day is it? Did you get the bolt?”

Annabeth: ….

Annabeth: “It’s been like 10 minutes.”

Percy : 👁️ 👄 👁️

I’m already thinking ahead to season 2 (gods willing).

As far as season 1 goes, I’m loving the changes, the characters, the story, about 95% of everything. How much I am LOVING Grover so much more in the tv show is honestly surprising me.

The only thing I’m truly confused by is not talking about his desire for a Searcher License at all, or even what that is. We actually already got to SEE the Council of Cloven Elders (which we don’t see in the books until book 4). So when we saw him go to the Elders, I thought that he going to discuss his Searcher License. But, na, it was leaning about Sally being stolen by Hades. (Which, I’m on board with the change. I really like the idea of Grover trying to make up Percy’s trust after getting him kicked out of Yancy Academy.).

But to not touch on the Pan Searchers License storyline… hear me out.

We saw a statue of Uncle Ferdinand as he “was on her own quest.” But as an audience we don’t know what that quest was that killed him.

Without knowing that all satyr’s are on a quest to find Pan, what would Grover leave camp for at the end of season 1? Post TLT quest, a non-reader audience member would assume Grover would be reassigned to a new halfblood in the mortal world, OR continue work at camp (strawberry fields, working with the pegasi, etc.).

Long story short, how is Grover gonna end up faking a wedding with Polyphemus? I’m wondering if the Pan storyline is going to be followed at all. (Which would be fine, the Pan storyline is not integral to the overall story.).

But…. The Pan storyline is literally what gets SoM started, and how Percy is able to involve himself in Clarisse’s quest. With how loyal the tv series start is, (literally quoting page 1 of TLT) I’m genuinely curious/worried as to how season 2 “gets going” without Grover starting his search for Pan….. Damn, even the SoM Movie had that storyline!

I’m probably jumping the gun here. The first 3 episodes are so much more than my 8th grade heart could have asked for! I’m genuinely so happy!!

Just thinking ahead…. I’m worried about the show being written into a hole.

Rant over. Back to waiting for next Tuesday at 9pm EST on the dot!

Welp clearly I stand corrected about the “no mention of Pan storyline” 😆😆

Episodes 1 & 2 have been released and watched. I’m in LOVE!!! I’ve been waiting since 8th grade for this!!!!! 🗡️⚡️🏕️🔱

But whose bright idea was this release schedule??? Definitely not Annabeth’s she’s not dumb or evil!!

I bet it was Kronos’s. He’s that dumb. And evil.

Unpopular opinion:

I finished reading Fourth Wing about a week ago. During the actual reading, it was entertaining. There were “off” parts about it that I could not place, but it was more or less entertaining. Not gonna call it enjoyable because of (SPOILER IM STILL MAD ABOUT). But the entire time I just kept thinking “I know exactly where this is going but I can’t not finish it so just keep going.”

Honestly not sure if I’m Dory or Marlin about this book….

Then it ended.

I’ve thought about it.

I’ve thought about it.

And I’ve thought about it.

It hit me: it’s Twilight with dragons.

(Semi spoilers ahead so tread with caution)

Person: “Did you hear about the shooting?”

Me: “Which one?”

How many times do Americans have to ask those two questions? I know it’s not the first time I’ve started a conversation like this, and I’d be willing to bid that every American reading this, regardless of which side of the debate you’re on, has too.

But honestly, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t.

I was 17 when Sandy Hook happened.

I was 17 when I knew that people in power do not give a damn about anything except holding onto power and money.

I was 17 when this country decided that 20 children between the ages of six and seven killed inside their school was acceptable.

I was 17 when I knew that the only thing people holding the ability to change had to offer the rest of the us was thoughts and prayers - prayers to a god that this country is losing more and more faith in.

Now, almost 10 years later, what the has changed?

Absolutely fucking nothing.

Surprised? I’m not. Heartbroken and pissed off beyond belief. Not surprised.

And here’s the kicker: to have a conversation with me about this, you’d still have to ask me as to which shooting I’m referring too this week (hint: read the tags - they all piss me off but the point is there: The question of “which one?” is fucked up).

We gonna have to ask these questions again next week?

Which one?

Tomorrow is March 1st, 2023. That’s 2 months into the new year. The result?

“So far, 6,278 people have been died from gun violence this year in the U.S, as of Feb. 23, according to the Gun Violence Archive – which is roughly an average of 116 deaths each day.”

2023. New Year, same story.
