Bitten by the Betta-Bug!

@betta-resplendent / betta-resplendent.tumblr.com

Winston, Aiden, China (Shihtzu). This is basically a hobby blog now. I'll still be reblogging pets for now though. PLEASE ask permission to use gifs/pictures I upload myself! I'm always happy to see my animals in comp posts, It's pretty cool, but it's a little upsetting to know that nobody ever asked if it was alright. I'd really like to be asked, and at the very least tag me!

So, I’ve finished two hats since making the bear (took a small break to rest my hands!), finishing off the Christmas gifts this year. The big one is for my GF’s sister, and the small one is for her sister’s daughter. They’re both hella cute. The yarn I used:

Small hat: Cloudborn Fibers Superwash Merino DK in Ecru & Ruby Big Hat: Hometown USA Solids & Neons in Elmore City Dance

And...I’ve finally figured out basic crochet! I used the leftover yarn from the big hat. I didn’t have quite enough to make it across the last row, but that’s okay! I’m really proud of myself, maybe I can finally broaden my horizons and start trying out crochet projects. I really like making plushies, but the cutest ones are crochet. I’m excited to finally take that step into crochet. How does my tension look, if you can tell?

A 2021 commuknity concept:

  • We all embrace that there are a near infinite number of ways to knit correctly
  • We ask questions to explore techniques that are unfamiliar to us
  • We stop assuming that if another knitter is using a different method of knitting they are, by default, doing it "wrong "and we stop making the choice to go out of our way to tell them it's "wrong"

In short: No Unsolicited Knitting "Advice" 2021

before we get too close to the holidays, please remember not to buy someone a pet as a gift! :) you are throwing a responibilty at someone, whether they were they talking about wanting one or not, you are not doing them or the animal a favor. People deserve to feel prepared and wait for the right time before they get a pet and animals deserve a caretaker that is ready to care for them

So I made a bear. Her face is a bit wonky, I’m still not very good about adding details to stuffed animals and adding limbs and such, so things are uneven… but I love her dearly. Her name is Blossom. She’s so soft and lovely, and I snuggled with her in bed after finishing her and felt like a child again. So safe and warm. <3

Pattern is Candy Bear. It’s a fantastic pattern, fun to knit and easy to understand! Would definitely suggest it. The only thing I changed was instead of sewing the bow onto the head, I used a hairpin to attach it, so I could remove it. I plan on slowly making more clothes for her over time, so having a permanent bow on her head wasn’t what I wanted.

Yarns used:

Knitologie Glowing Worsted in Shoreline (For the body) Sirdar Happy Cotton in Puff (Shirt, shoes, bow) Bernat Baby Sport Solids in Baby Blue (Overalls, shoes, bow)

Attention people who know how to knit!

I have a blanket that was given to me as a baby and for twenty-three years it has never ceased to be a source of comfort as well as my favorite texture to use for stimming. However, it has been through years of use and is beginning to fall apart and that gives me more anxiety than literally anything else in the world. I have a pattern for it that I have ZERO idea how to read, let alone recreate.

So, I’m looking for someone who can read and recreate this blanket - either make a tutorial video that I can see on YouTube so I can follow along and make my own that way, or send me the one that you make. I am willing to pay substantially for this!

If you are interested, please send me a message and we can talk details. I’ve attached the pictures I have of the pattern from the magazine it comes from, so you can see if it’s possible for you. If you’re not interested, still PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THIS. There is not much I wouldn’t do to get a replacement, or a way to make my own. If you have any friends not on Tumblr who might interested in doing this, let me know about those, too!

Thanks in advance!

Friendly reminder as we come into the holiday gift-making season to

  • Take breaks
  • Stretch your hands
  • Straighten your shoulders
  • Stay hydrated and snacked
  • Not feel obligated to make gifts for just anyone, especially toxic people in your life! If someone is a butthead to you, you don't actually owe them the love of your handmade goods. The things you make (and yourself!) are worth more than that

✨Happy making!💛

Inexplicably annoyed by men writing about knitting!

???????

The tags on this are extraordinary:

girlfriend: *does a completely harmless craft that she enjoys, creating something while she watches tv*

boyfriend: “what is this anti-feminist spinster shit, i’m so alienated”

this is literally why I feel like I have to apologize for sewing

“sweetly oblivious old ladies” Hon I 100% guarantee to you that those old ladies are aware of you, your bloodline, your daily habits and your breakfast order and gossip about how rude you are as soon as you leave.

“If you want to eavesdrop on someone, knit or sew or some sort of womanly craft. Men will act as though you are deaf and blind even when shown evidence otherwise.” - Tricksters’ Choice.

The optimistic side of me hopes that this is at the beginning of the book and our dear narrator here will learn that he was utterly wrong in judging his girlfriend for knitting.

Maybe after she stabbed him with a knitting needle.

(And maybe he has learned that there are surprisingly few “sweetly oblivious old ladies”.)

WTF?! @incredifishface Can you believe this shit?

it does seem from the sentence above that this guy has A Lot of Man Problems.

can you even imagine his thoughts on crocheting?

cloacina

I want “I will knit you a coffin” on a tshirt.

I will put your t-shirt on my knitted coffin.

Life is too short to knit with shitty yarn or deal with shitty men.
