Propaganda

Rita Moreno (Singin' in the Rain, West Side Story)—She’s an EGOT, an absolute legend for how she navigated her career as a woman of color in the fifties and sixties. Her performance as Anita in West Side Story is why I go back to that movie so many times. She is an icon and she is the moment.

Angela Lansbury (The Harvey Girls, The Court Jester, The Manchurian Candidate)—The babe, the myth, the legend. In her own words her early hollywood roles were "a series of venal bitches" and they were all glorious. Half of them wanted to kill you and you probably would have thanked them. She even goes toe to toe with Judy Garland in The Harvey Girls! That said, she was chronically underused and misused during this era - she was just 36 when she was cast as Elvis Presley's mother in Blue Hawaii and a few years later commented that she'd played so many 'old hags' that most people thought she was in her 60s. She thought she was "all talent, no looks" but she was the full package! Post-1970 I hope we all know what an incredibly talented and compassionate badass she was, but I feel like not enough people know her early roles as a hot (often villainous) young thing.

This is round 4 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

MYSTERY SOLVED!!!! It’s actually Doctor Who. David Arnold COMPOSED the score for Good Omens, which is different than ARRANGING it. He ARRANGED a theme to the 8th Doctor audio dramas.

When a piece is arranged, it is basically a compilation of another composer or artist’s work, all fit together to make a playable piece (that’s a bad explanation but). A composition is entirely original. Composing vs. arranging is like Beyoncé writing a song vs. someone listening to a Beyoncé song and then transcribing it.

so David Arnold COMPOSED the music for Good Omens, and he ARRANGED a theme to Doctor Who, so it’s Doctor Who.

(watch there be a legitimate doctor who piece he actually did compose i will cry and throw up from embarrassment)

David Arnold also arranged lots of music for Good Omens. In fact the first thing he did was arranging Queen's Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon for Brass Band.

(And on another note I've seen, using blond/blonde as gendered adjectives is these days a matter of "house style". I've had publishers who use blond for men and women.)

man yall the interpersonal drama in ancient rome was something else like. there was a guy named crassus who had a pet eel and was so sad when it died that he gave it a funeral, and when another dude named domitius ahenobarbus made fun of him for throwing an eel funeral, crassus was like "oh so this is coming from the guy who's buried three of his wives and not even shed a single tear about it." wish i could've been in the room for that one

“It Is an Honor to Be Suspended for Palestine”

Dispatches from the Solidarity Encampment at Columbia University

In this in-depth report, participants offer a blow-by-blow account of the events at Columbia, appraising the tactics that the demonstrators have employed and the challenges that they face.

since the white house put out a ridiculous statement condemning the protests i want to reiterate again that many of the students involved are jewish, there has always been a large jewish presence at these protests in nyc and in campus organizing for palestine

Suzanne Collins gripping my face with her hands: listen listen the first step to evil is dehumanisation, always, the second you start to see people as less than people no matter what they've done to you that's when you start heading down a path of selfish destruction and violence

Terry Pratchett nodding emphatically behind her: people as things. That's where it starts.
