Taeyong blows out the candles on his birthday cake as everyone pops party poppers and claps and cheers for the birthday boy. He’s wearing the cutest little kid party hat on and his cheeks are flushed pink from taking so many shots. It seems the goal for the evening is getting the birthday boy wasted. You’re at your co-workers birthday party, Taeyong has invited everyone he’s cool with from your company and then of course there will always be the random few that tag along or get invited from other co-workers. 

Like Doyoung, who is one of the more surprising party guests. He’s the head of the management department and he got a lot of funny looks- like why’s he here? It can feel odd mingling with someone from management in an outside social setting. It didn’t phase him at all though, the man gives no fucks. He’s here to have a good time and celebrate his friend’s birthday. You had no idea Doyoung and Taeyong were such close friends but it’s cute to watch them throw back shots together. You met Doyoung when you first got hired and since you’re in the HR Department, you have always worked closely with the Management team. You’ve never hung out together though, so it was interesting to see him be so social and carefree. He seemed like a very uptight person in the office, but this Doyoung you’ve been observing seems like an entirely different person.

“Hey you want another beer?” Mark asks you, breaking your train of thought as he leans against the counter where you both are standing, doing your usual people watching. “Yes please.” You groan. The party was getting unbearably boring, or maybe you were just too sober. There were many possibilities. You and Mark were attending because y’all have a good relationship with Taeyong and partially because Mark wanted an excuse to get wasted. 

You reached the point of the evening where you thought “Damn, mingling with a bunch of company co-workers is just exhausting. It’s like can i get drunk? Is that appropriate?” The internal struggle made you chug the tiny remainder of beer left. And then the thought of having to see these faces at work potentially hung over crossed your mind, sounding very awkward. You were a lightweight anyway, so on your 2nd beer you were already flushed and feeling the buzz. You follow Mark to the kitchen to grab another. At least you can maybe numb your boredom with some nice cold beer. 

“Hey Y/N can you grab me one too?” Looking up, you see Doyoung giving you his gummy smile. You always found that kind of endearing for someone who rarely smiles at work, and when you’ve caught him laughing it was always a nice surprise.

How it all started

Lee Taeyong has been in love with you from the moment he saw you sitting alone in the university’s coffee shop. He was sitting quite far away from you with his chaotic friends, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Taeil. But looking at you brought him peace even just for a second before Jung Jaehyun nudges his elbow and caught Taeyong’s attention. Just like that his peaceful world became noisy again.

“Y/n, we go to the same class. What do you think of her?” Jaehyun talks low beside Taeyong, careful not to get your attention. Yet.

“She’s beautiful. Not gonna lie” Taeyong responds.

“I think that beautiful girl is the one for me. I can’t stop thinking about her, but I want to make it right this time. I’m done playing games-this girl is something”

Taeyong was speechless after hearing what his friend just said. Jaehyun has a reputation of being the university’s cutie and number one playboy, that simply means he can get whoever he wants and Taeyong can only pray that you’re different from every girl in this school.

Helpless and hopeless, Taeyong watches Jaehyun walk towards your table and disturb your peace like how he did with his. Taeyong watched you laugh at Jaehyun’s jokes and Taeyong watched you give your number to Jaehyun. It’s not that he’s disappointed with you for being under Jaehyun’s spell, he’s more disappointed in himself for not saying that he likes you too. Just this once he wanted Jaehyun to back off let him win you, but instead of standing up for himself, he just sat there.

The bicycle ride from your house to Jaehyun’s was a blur to you - the city lights blended together in streaks of color, faceless people passed you by and the vehicles all became big blocks of metal. Your mind was so focused on Jaehyun and this favour he asked of you that not even the chilly air of the night was being registered by your brain.

It had been well over a month since you’d had contact on a deeper level with either Jaehyun or Johnny. You’d seen them at the Hospital - despite your best efforts to avoid the areas you knew they would be at - but simply just smiled at each other; sometimes you would even say a ‘hello’ or wish them a good day, but that was it. It’s not that you minded having contact with them - it’s the exact opposite. You were scared you were going to cave. 

You thought about the two handsome doctors day and night. You reminisced about all the times you had spent together, all the sweet words you had whispered to each other, all the times you got lost in one another’s eyes and all the times they made you scream in pleasure - you missed them. You wished you could just pick one of them and get this torture over with but you couldn’t.

“Hey,” you greeted Johnny as you opened your front door to him.

“Hey,” he casually responded.

“Please, come in,” you moved out of the way to let him in, your heart filled with joy.

“You’ve redecorated since the last time I was here,” Johnny noted as he walked into your apartment.

“Yeah well, when your head’s a mess sometimes you feel like you need something new to cheer you up,” you explained as you closed the door and followed him to your couch.

“I see,” he commented, a nervous aura surrounding him. “And how’s your head now?” He asked, testing the waters.

“It’s better.”

“So…you’ve decided.”

“Are you ready bro?” Johnny asked patting Jaehyun in the back, trying to give him courage for what was about to happen.

“Yeah,” he answered as he paced back and forth in his living room.

“We’ll be right by your side,” you said, his head turning around to look at you, his eyes immediately softening up.

“I know.”

At that moment the rustling of keys could be heard behind the door, putting you all in a state of alert.

“Alright, let’s meet the bitch,” Ten said with a cocky grin on his face, his eyes fixated on the front door.

*knock knock knock*

“I’ll get that,” Johnny said while he got up from his couch.

You had arrived 5 minutes ago and ever since then it’s been mostly silent between you and Johnny. Not because it was awkward between the two of you, but because the situation was so heavy that you simply weren’t able to.

“Hey John, what’s up?” He greeted his friend before he walked inside and spotted you, the look on his face changing completely “Hey.”

“Hi,” you nervously said, your eyes briefly meeting his before you looked away. It hurt so much to know that just in a few moments he was probably gonna be crying that you couldn’t look him in the eye.

“Jae, sit. We have some news for you,” Johnny instructed as he prepared to do the same.

“Y/N? Oh my God, what happened to you? Are you alright?” Jaehyun asked.

You turned around, following the sound of his voice, and were met with his skinny face and dark circles, the sight still making your chest tighten.

“Yeah, I just fell and broke my arm,” you explained, lifting up your white cast.

“Oh…I’m glad it’s nothing more serious.”

He looked at you like he wanted to say something more, do something more, but soon changed his mind.

“Listen I gotta go to work-”

“Can we talk?” You interrupted him, his mouth slightly hanging due to your sudden request.

“I…no.”

“I know why you broke up with me, the real reason,” you said, not buying into what he said.

“My Uber is here and you need to clock in. Come to my house when you finish your shift? I think we really need to talk,” you said after spotting the car Johnny had sent to pick you up.

Jaehyun was maintaining his silence, an obvious inner conflict happening in his head. “She will never know.”

“Okay. I’ll be there.”

You left the room with the lockers, rose in hand, and made your way to the elevator keeping in mind that Jaehyun always preferred to use the stairs. You entered the big metal box and pressed the button with the number 2. The doors closed and your anxiety slightly kicked up.

You internally cursed at Mark for making you do this but at the same time you knew you couldn't keep avoiding this place like the plague. Honestly, you wished you could be okay with seeing Jaehyun in the flesh but the truth was you weren't ready for it.

The elevator halted, a soft 'ping' sound being heard before the metal doors slid open. You took a deep breath, looked to your left and to your right and exited.

The distance from the elevator to Jennie's desk wasn't much, but you had to pass by Jaehyun's office, which you weren't thrilled about. You took a sneak peak at the corridor and noticed just a few seated people waiting for their appointments - some of them being a couple with their daughter who were right in front of Jaehyun's office. Your heart raced, this meant that he was working and could come out at any moment. Now was the time, you had to go, drop the rose and leave before Jaehyun opened his door to call for the next patient and saw you.

Not waiting a second longer, you started speeding to Jennie's desk, not failing to notice the worried look on the face of the patients. You ignored their concerns and kept going until you reached your goal.

"Y/N, is everything okay?" Jennie's colleague, Laura, asked.

"Yeah," you panted. "I just had to bring this in from Mark before Jennie got in," you explained, showing her the flower.

"Aw he's so sweet!" She commented with a dreamy look on her face. "Well, you can drop it here hun."

"Alright, thanks." You gave her the rose and immediately turned to leave but bumped into someone, falling down on the floor.

"Are you alright? I'm so sorry." The voice you least wanted to hear spoke. "Omg, Y/N, I-I didn't know it was you."

Fuck.

His hand reached for your arm to help you up but you swatted it away. "I'm alright."

You got up on your own and looked at him for the first time in a while. He looked awful. His clothes looked bigger on him, his dark circles were evident and his eyes looked sad. You hated him for the way he ended things but you couldn't help but feel your chest tighten with worry.

"What are you doing here?" He asked as he looked at you with a small hint of hope, something you found odd.

"That's none of your business," you said, his expression immediately changing to a neutral one.

"Right..."

"I-I need to get back to work," you moved to the side so you could leave but suddenly stopped, remembering something. "Oh and Jaehyun, please take better care of yourself."

You went your own way, back turned to him, not noticing the longing look on his face as he watched you leave.

When you woke up Johnny wasn’t beside you. You thought that maybe he’d left in an attempt to avoid the conversation you needed to have, but the noise coming from the kitchen convinced you otherwise.

You turned to your right to look at the time on the clock on the bedside table and noticed a glass of water with some pills for your hangover next to it. You reached for the pills, popped them in your mouth and swallowed them down with the help of the water.

The fact that you only had a slight headache and a dry mouth was a relief to you. Rough hangovers were no strangers to you, and you sure thanked your lucky stars you didn’t have to have this conversation while trying not to puke.

You got up, collected the clothes scattered on the floor and put them on. You took a deep breath, trying to give yourself the courage and made your way to the kitchen.

Diagnosis: Love (31) (M)

“One more please!” You begged the bartender, your finger pointing to the empty shot glass right in front of you.

Tonight you had come to a bar you didn’t usually go to. You didn’t like the vibes of it or the type of music they played but the one you usually went to was where you and Jaehyun first kissed and you refused to be plagued by the memories.

You were in self-destruction mode. You didn’t want to think, you didn’t want to rationalize, you just wanted to forget it all.

You moved to grab your shot as soon as the bartender with the eyebrow piercing finished pouring the Tequilla into the glass, but disappointment fell on you when somebody took it and drank it before you could.

“You sure are hard to find,” Johnny said as his face contorted due to the burning of the alcohol.

You sighed.

It’s not that you weren’t happy to see him, you just felt like being by yourself. “You drank my shot.”

“Sorry, no more for you.”

“Excuse me, but you are not my father.” You ignored Johnny’s order and snapped your fingers at the bartender so he could refill you but Johnny immediately shot him a look and he turned away.

“Come on, I’m taking you home.”

“I don’t want to go home, thank you very much.” You grabbed your purse to get away from him but his hand on your arm stopped you.

“Johnny let go.”

“Listen, you don’t want to go home, I get it. How about we just go to my place?”
