to my friends in red states, please stay safe and watch out for each other. stay inside and avoid going out if you don’t need to. not to stir up fear in the wake of victory, but there are numerous watchdog organizations warning people — especially black and trans folks — to expect a sharp uptick in violence and tension. the naacp has issued a warning to black people in missouri to STAY INSIDE, STAY TOGETHER, STAY SAFE. check on your friends. stay informed. if you aren’t following them already, check out the naacp website and watchdog organizations to keep an eye on things in your area.

to white folks, this is a time for you to celebrate as well, but things are far from over. reach out to your poc and trans friends, particularly your black and trans friends, and check on them and make sure they feel safe. DO NOT STOP DONATING TO PAYPALS AND GOFUNDMES. CONTINUE SHARING RESOURCES AND INFORMATION. CONTINUE PARTICIPATING IN COMMUNITY AID. electing biden did not simultaneously wipe out the issues many marginalized communities are facing. YOUR PART IN THIS IS NOT OVER BECAUSE THIS FIGHT IS NOT OVER. continue spreading

to succinctly sum up the energy we need to cultivate going forward:

you can reblog this. white people can and should reblog this. likes do nothing for us.

I’m amazed this is still getting notes

It’s funny cause the USSR started getting beauracratic after Stalin

What have you read that says otherwise

Yeah you know the person who wrote that is a trotskyist right?

lol so am i, mate

It uses primary sources

What primary sources? Trotsky’s journal lol

Lenin’s Collected Works, dipshit

Lenin also wrote terribly about Trotsky tho so ur just cherry picking

Omg you literally haven’t even looked at the article have you.

Tumblr user whatthefckiscaution: Lenin said Trotsky wrote a silly letter once, so you can’t trust it when he wrote about the dangers of the growing Soviet bureaucracy

Okay but that was before lenin died and stalin took over after being democratically elected so idk what that has to do with Stalin, and Stalin agreed with that and tried his best to fight bureaucracy while he was the leader of the ussr. It was after the slandering of Stalin by Khrushchev and his followers that bureaucracy got increasingly worse

Look, comrade, if we’re going to talk about the Soviet Union let’s be historical materialists about it. Your description is pure great-man-of-theory stuff.

The early Soviet Union was the most democratic regime in history up to that point. For that to change there had to be a material reason. That reason was the low level of development and generalized want after the Civil War that decimated the working class and prevented them from taking part in politics. The exhaustion of the masses was what allowed the bureaucracy to seize power. When the material conditions are so powerful there’s not much individuals can do, even a great leader like Lenin. Lenin compared the bureaucratization of the Soviet Union to being behind the wheel of a car that’s driving itself. He had no control. And nothing fundamental changed when Stalin took power.

Stalin himself being democratically elected is no counter-argument to the fact that the USSR was bureaucratically run. The economy was planned top-down with no democratic control from the workers. There was a massive bureaucracy full of nepotism and corruption.

If there was no bureaucratization under Stalin, but there was under Khrushchev, what was the material basis for this change? If there was workers’ democracy under Stalin, how and why did the workers allow Khrushchev to take this away from them? Surely after the Second World War, when the Soviet Union entered a period of stability, there was no material basis for the working class to relinquish power to a corrupt bureaucracy.

Right now Oregon and California are experiencing one of the worst wildfires to date. The sky is orange and everything smells like a campfire and I’m bad at articulating but it’s really serious. Thousands have had to evacuate and lost they’re homes in the process. I don’t like talking about topical stuff on the blog v often but I’m in the midst of the evacuation zone in Oregon and shits scary. I’m afraid of losing my home and I’m afraid for my family and friends.

Idk what the point is of this post but I feel like not many people outside of the northwest know how bad it is rn cus it’s bad. The moment I find donation links I’ll link them to this post but I haven’t found any yet. And if you’re in the northwest rn, please be safe.

y'all: i love wearing baggy clothes that don't show my form and being completely shapeless!

also y'all: get uncomfortable around muslim women wearing an abaya/jilbab/other loose clothes that do the SAME THING

pandemic addition! i’ve seen a lot of people talk about how they like wearing masks because they feel anonymous/not perceived/”like a ninja” and i know a lot of muslim women have discussed the irony behind mandating masks while banning niqabs, but i better not hear anyone talk about being uncomfortable with niqabis when this is over.

Was anyone going to tell me that Canada has a monument to the fucking SS or was I supposed to just find that out?

What the fuck, Canada!?

It's being investigated as a hate crime??? Surely we're missing something?

Someone painted “Nazi war monument” on a stone cenotaph commemorating those who served with the 14th SS Division. The monument is located in Oakville in the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery.

The division, made up of Ukrainians who pledged allegiance to Hitler, was part of the Nazi’s Waffen SS organization. Some members of the division have been accused of killing Polish women and children as well as Jews during the Second World War.

[...]

The 14th SS Division, also known as the Galizien Division, was formed in 1943 when Nazi Germany needed to shore up its forces as allied troops, including those from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Russia, started to gain the upper hand and turn the tide of the war. In May 1944, SS leader Heinrich Himmler addressed the division with a speech that was greeted by cheers.  “Your homeland has become more beautiful since you have lost – on our initiative, I must say – the residents who were so often a dirty blemish on Galicia’s good name – namely the Jews,” Himmler said. “I know that if I ordered you to liquidate the Poles, I would be giving you permission to do what you are eager to do anyway.”

Also our Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland is the proud descendant of one of these Ukrainian SS members

between the death of Brronna Taylor and the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion one thing I've learnt is that you people cant take black womens pain seriously. One of these women is literally dead and y'all turned her death and the blm movements fight to bring her justice into a meme. Megan was shot in an attempt on her life, she was physically injured and traumatized and the first thing y'all do is crack out your joke books. Nonblack people and cishet black men just dont seem capable of taking the pain black women go through seriously and it's something that needs fucking addressing.

y’all saying BLM for one situation just don’t sit right with me, it goes beyond police brutality!!! it’s Black women dying at a higher rate during childbirth. it’s Black people being exposed to COVID-19 at a higher rate. it’s Black people being forced into low income communities. it's Black people being denied job opportunities due to the name on their applications. it's Black people being denied into higher institutions despite having the same qualifications as their non-Black counterparts. it's Black people having their creations and ideas stolen without being given credit simply because a good percentage of society still believes in 2020 that Black people are not creative enough or smart enough or skilled enough. this isn't just about police brutality. this is deeper than that.

stop fucking using the word psychotic to describe bad behaviour and violence already god fucking damn it

oh my god i'm so tired psychotic does not mean violent it does not mean angry or erratic. it refers to a person suffering from psychosis, a loss of touch with reality that includes hallucinations and/or delusions. psychotic people are not inherently violent and y'all need to understand how much stigma you create when you again and again incorrectly use the word psychotic without even thinking about it

would appreciate if non-psychotic people could reblog this

You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.

I want to drill this into everybody’s head:

  • The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
  • Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
  • Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
  • The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system

Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated

Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.

If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.

Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

Covid is not over and black lives still matter. Stop trying to "go back to normal" when shit is still happening.

Stop going on trips and going to restaurants without masks.

Keep educating yourself and protesting and calling and donating and signing petitions.

Wear a mask. End white supremacy. Defund police.

I know it's tiring but it's not over for either thing even though people are pretending it is. I know the overlap is exhausting. But be safe, social distance, and keep fighting the good fight.
