What does liberty mean to you? This screen print by the recently deceased Robert Indiana, "Liberty" displays the artist's fascination with the power of words, signage, and American identity. Commissioned to commemorate the United States Bicentennial in 1976, "Liberty" is perhaps lesser-known than Indiana's sculptural representation of the word "LOVE," though we're keeping both words in mind today as we celebrate the Fourth of July!🎆🇺🇸 _ #robertindiana #4thofjuly #independenceday [🎨Liberty, 1974-75, Robert Indiana, Screenprint, 38 x 34 in. "I have a dim, flickering memory of this visit to the museum. It was 1955, and I was about 3 1/2. As always, my mom faced me right into the sun, so I was squinting. Glad to be one of many, many generations to be photographed astride the camels!" – Susan Scott No camels were harmed for the making of these images! 🐫 The Chinese camels outside the Seattle Asian Art Museum are SAM's symbolic protectors of our Asian art collection as renovations to expand our Volunteer Park location are underway.
