gemmastyles: If you didn’t catch my stories a couple of weeks ago then you might have missed my trip to Senegal! I travelled with @gatesfoundation to highlight how investing in women’s healthcare is a massive factor in sustainable health development. I had the pleasure of interviewing Awa, who had been given access to healthcare training and has since been able to establish a full-on clinic in her village, which supports the people there as well as those in surrounding areas. This means, for example, that pregnant women have much easier access to checkups and urgent medical attention without travelling long distances. Access to contraception and family planning services mean that women there are able to put off having children until they’ve completed education and are able to space out their pregnancies. They have the choice. This has had a direct impact on the area’s maternal and infant mortality rate as well as a web of wider implications into the health and wellbeing of communities. The wonderful projects and people we visited in Senegal are a great example of how investment in female health and education around social issues, including gender equality, are having an impact. It’s really good for governments to have these examples and data to hand when examining their own priorities when it comes to women’s health and opportunities - and I also think it’s an example for everyone of what can be achieved within a supportive environment. Without the backing of her husband and family, Awa would have had a much tougher time achieving what she has - even if you don’t want to be the one changing the world, support the people who do ♥️🌍 If you’d like more info on @lenamahfouf and @dianazurloewen’s trips then visit their profiles!

Never Sometimes Always – Chapter Ten

Violet hears him before she sees him. 

He’s surrounded by people who are significantly taller than her and it makes her a bit uncomfortable. In fact, it made her feel like she should leave. She already knew fitting into Harry’s life was a stretch as it is, but she didn’t think that she literally wouldn’t fit into Harry’s life. People are whizzing past her carry all types of things, wires, speakers, and various clothing items and it’s making her head spin. She backs away from Harry; she shouldn’t be here.
