The cutting gaze is met with a much more DISTRACTED one, almost as if Cisco’s surprised Hartley thinks he was talking to him. He wasn’t. They are the only two people in the lab and yet, he was not.
Okay. Maybe a little. But it’s hard. “I didn’t say I’m lying to you,” he points out, arms crossing.
Hartley helping them find Ronnie has scored him some nice points, sure, but Cisco still doesn’t like him. Has put ‘befriending Hartley’ on his lost causes list ages ago. And yet, Hartley – just like Joe – is the person with suspicious about the subject Cisco is now growing suspicious about.
“Depends on how important my peace of mind is to you but it’s – it’s about Dr. Wells.” He looks around to check if they’re truly alone before lowering his voice. “And before you get into full asshole mode on me; I’m starting to think you might have been even MORE RIGHT about him than you thought you were.”
out of EVERYTHING he’d anticipated would come out of cisco’s mouth, this hadn’t exactly been at the top of the list. YES, he’ll admit he’d given them no reason to trust him, seeing as he attempted to. . . well. . . kill the flash. maybe he assumed the near death experience would BOND them enough to share.
still, he’s uncertain why cisco’s CONFESSION surprised him more than the lie itself. from the DAY wells cast him out of s.t.a.r labs, hartley had grown to suspect and loathe the man’s sinister intentions. but cisco ------- who he once might have called wells’ lapdog -------- was ACKNOWLEDGING it and it meant more to hartley than he’d ever say.
❛ go on. ❜ his tone has lost the edge, and he’s watching cisco carefully. ❛ if there is something ---- anything ---- you suspect, i should know. ❜ and he’s the last person who would make any judgements based on DISTRUST for wells.

sympathy isn’t exactly DIFFICULT to come by, but this is a rare moment of mutual understanding. who knew that they’d both be sitting here feeling the exact same thing ? hartley’s quiet for a long moment, contemplating his response. fingers idly trace some small circle on the table as the perfectly constructed mask of his expression begins to falter.

in all honesty, the decision to relax around jem was beginning to make his task as CLASS TREASURER significantly less exhausting. the animosity he held for most of his peers wasn’t precisely false, but considering. . . all of the factors, hartley still made a point to adamantly utilize a facade. at least during meetings like this, jem’s BOYFRIEND wasn’t trailing behind him. it makes it easier for him to breathe.

considering this CAREER, alternate realities had never been out of the question. of course, they’d warned him about how striking this could be. . . but really, nothing could soften the blow. YES -- hartley had relinquished his anger over what EOBARD THAWNE had done to them, but he’d be lying if he said seeing this face didn’t stir up any memories.

DAYS after saving their INCOMPETENT asses and this is what they have to show for it ? the flash must really have some sway, though OF COURSE that was only to be anticipated. this effort certainly wasn’t the work of wells, even further from cisco ( whose blood really must be boiling. ) caitlin seemed to run with her peers, so this must be from the flash himself.

while his demeanor does a decent job of concealing what he wants it to, he can feel it. it’s these lights, the space. he’s getting tired and while his initial escape plan didn’t EXACTLY work out, he plans on formulating another way out. THIS presents an intriguing possibility, but one he has to consider.
