"I am here for you, always."
While the sentiment had surprised him, Spock hadn’t had to verbalize it for him to know it to be true. He gave a genuine smile. “I know and I hope you know the same applies to you.”
“Indeed, Captain.”
The sentimental statement had slipped from his lips before he could catch it. His solid, Vulcan self-control bent if only for a fraction of a minute. And yet, he could not find regret in the slip, as hearing Jim’s reassurance was warming. Illogical.

Truly, Spock was not certain what Rou did to offend the natives. As she inched behind him, he shifted to shield her with his body. Shoulders square, he held sturdy like stone. Blaster raised defensively, he raised his voice. “Do not approach or I will fire.” Spock, normally so peaceful, now seemed uncharacteristically threatening. The natives glanced between each other and then the middle spoke. “You go free, give girl.” The Vulcan remained unmoved, “I am incapable of complying to your demand.” This was a very delicate situation. Firing could very easily equal war and yet, Spock could not hand the counselor over. “Please--- step back.” And instead, the natives did the opposite. The three came forward, brows pulled, mouths twisted in a snarl. “Run---!” Spock hissed under his breath, stance still defensive.
how are we not talking about this. i literally cannot believe we aren’t talking about this. how is this not all we ever talk about. literally how.
