“You’re a menace,” he says, unable to hide the fondness in his voice.

She laughs, loud and carefree and beautiful.

“You love it,” she says as she leans against the door so she’s facing him. 

She’s radiant in the early morning sun, hair shining gold and skin glowing, like a goddamn angel, but better, because she’s real, and she’s here, and he’s hers.

“Yeah. I guess I do.”

In which Seth asks Kate to help him break his ex wife out of prison, and everything promptly goes to hell.

She’d survived everything Amaru had to throw at her and more. She deserves a little goddamn credit for that, doesn’t she? But in his eyes, she might as well still be bleeding out on the floor of that church in the middle of the desert. And nothing has changed.
