Kate & I were young. She was living in Croydon with her mom & I was mostly sleeping on my agent's couch. Neither of us had any money & we were crashing wherever we could just to be together. Kate & I would hang out & take pictures all the time. Being broke made printing a luxury that I could rarely afford, so I would make contact sheets, cut out the images I liked & tape them into a diary to keep track of what I was shooting. She was a big part of my life & inevitably became a part of my diaries.

After constantly moving around, we settled into a sweet place on Kensal Road. We both started to get noticed - she began to appear on magazine covers & I was beginning to get work as a photographer. We spent the next two years traveling & working together.

In 1993, I was asked to show my diaries to Calvin Klein, which became the inspiration for the Obsession campaign that Kate & I shot together.
