/N was a very lucky girl.
As almost every Saturday night, she and her boyfriend would spend the night together, even if it was studying for tests. And even though they had very similar schedules, they saw each other every single day and most night then not they shared the same bed, despite the fact that they lived in different apartments. Since Peter moved out to his own place, Raul got the whole flat for himself, and that’s where they both were most of the time, and he even gave her a key on his birthday, claiming that was more of a present to him than anything else.
They’ve been together for almost two years now, having met in college since both of them went to the same one and shared most classes (they even had an internship together back then), and both wanted to go through Med School. The pair also had very close friends in common, being Chloe (Y/N’s roommate and best friend) and Peter the closest ones. So when they got picked to write a paper together, a beautiful friendship blossomed, and quickly turned into something more.
Raul’s almost Y/N’s complete opposite. He’s an extrovert with a wild social life, known as the bad boy cliche of every 00s movie (the ones that could easily break your heart), all heads turned to him whenever he stepped into a room and he didn’t mind the attention and a natural flirt, so smooth you wouldn’t even notice. Y/N was the cliche of a good girl, who liked having everything under control, actually payed attention to every single lecture, more of and introvert, liked quieter places and chill nights in, a total bookworm and a bit wobbly on her feet.
At first she hated the idea of spending so much time with him and having to write such an important paper with him. He didn’t do anything to favor it as well. Raul was intrigued by her and every attempt she made to push him away, only left him wanting to get closer. In the end he turned out to be the softest guy, who would absolutely everything for her and she ended up all heart eyed.
Dating didn’t change their dynamics much, they’re already around each other 24/7 and arguments were really rare, and neither could stay mad at the other for longer than a few hours (and it generally ended up in a cuddle session on the couch as they watched whatever movie the other wanted).
And it was good, a great balance. Raul brought to her life a little bit of edge she was missing, encouraging her to do certain things she wouldn’t before, to chase after her wishes and to have an open mind for new possibilities. He was also incredibly attentive and affectionate, which was something she didn’t know she liked so much until him. And Y/N was the reasonable side of the relationship, always planning ahead, holding him back from doing things out of spite, and helping him relax from his very hectic routine, reminding him he needed to rest too. And she feels so lucky to come home to him in a very long and stressful day to the smell of pasta, a bottle of whine and flowers. To have someone who would go out of his way to do this little things for her. It just made her heart double its size and pound a bit harder.
This Saturday wasn’t much different. Raul called her during his lunch break announcing his shift was ending earlier and was asking her on a date, claiming it’s been a while since he properly took her out. She didn’t mind staying in but Y/N promptly agreed to the date, feeling the butterflies go wild on her stomach, even after all these months together, he still managed to make her act like a teenage girl. He finished the call telling her that if she wanted, she could go to his place and get ready there (since she was spending the night) so he could meet her there.
When Raul got home with a “Angel, I’m home” she was practically ready, just finishing some touch ups on her makeup as she called on from her place on his bathroom sink. He got in to find her sitting on the counter trying to perfect her eyeliner as he leaned on the door, watching her finish it, before turning around with open arms to welcome him. He pulled her close to his body in a tight embrace, placing a kiss to her temple murmuring a “hi, beautiful” before he got in the shower to clean off the ‘hospital smell’ off him. While he was in the bathroom, she quickly changed into a summery dress and as she was putting on her shoes he walked out of his closet ready and looking like a runway model, with his multiple tattoos peeking through the almost sheer fabric of his shirt.

Y/N didn’t really know if she should be mad or laugh at Raul.
If she was honest, it’s not like she hadn’t seen it coming, specially after almost four years since they started dating and now that they’re living together. He asked her to move in with him on his birthday and by thanksgiving everything was solved and settled, and since it was their first holiday living in his place, Raul offered to host the Christmas Eve dinner on their place. But the problem was (according to Raul himself) that he didn’t own any sort of thematic decoration or items, since he shared his place with his brother and spent most holidays in their hometown or traveling with Shawn. And ever since they both came to visit Y/N’s parents and he saw the effort at herr sisters place, he turned into a Christmas maniac.
It all started while they’re packing all of her stuff from her place and Raul stumbled across a tiny box with her minor Christmas decor and he realized he didn’t even own a stocking or whatever, not a single ornament. Y/N brushed it off saying they didn’t have to make a big deal out of it since they’re most likely leaving for the holidays, but what she didn’t expect was for her boyfriend to lose his mind over it. He started a whole inquiry about their traditions and famous dishes, how much was too much on decor and at the time, Y/N didn’t even bat an eye at his sudden strange curiosity, thinking he’d drop the subject soon enough.
But when she arrived at home from work and was met with a massive tree standing by their floor to ceiling windows in the corner of the living room she was a bit shocked, to say the least. Too stunned to speak or react, she didn’t even notice her 6’3 boyfriend leaning over the kitchen island on her Pinterest account that was logged on her computer, searching for a list of things he should buy to decorate their place.

Being a college student isn’t always easy. Honestly, it can be extremely tricky and filled with many obstacles on the simplest tasks. Of course there are the fun parts, like being able to move out of your parents’ house or being able to do stuff your way and when you want to, and for a few people, the social part of their lives is also a great point. Some people like going to parties, drinking and dating, and sometimes going on road trips. For Y/N, her social life was a little bit quieter. She liked to read while drinking some tea, and going out with her friend to get some food and that’s it, she’s never really been into partying or going on random dates, Y/N’s a bit more reserved.
Which wasn’t bad, she wasn’t popular or whatever, but she didn’t care, she actually didn’t like being the center of attention at all. She liked being free to do whatever without being judged by everyone all the time. And that’s one of the reasons she avoided some people, like Raul Mendes. Not that the popularity and attention were everything that kept her away from him. She had many reasons to stay away from him. First would be the one already listed. Second would be the fact that he was extremely good looking and he knew that, which meant he was egocentric and very annoying. Third thing is he was a player and he was always in trouble, and these were the last things Y/N needed on her life. And there were many reasons. He was just rude and a jerk most of the time.
The exact opposite of his brother, Peter, the sweetest guy she’s ever met. They weren’t necessarily close, but they shared a class and they had a friend in common, and in college stuff she was dragged to, he was a great companion. But of course she and Raul had to share most of their classes and pursuing the same career, and of course they’re paired in one of their subjects for a whole semester.
This is just cruel, she’d rather do the whole thing by herself other than having to have him around.
When Mr. Spencer said both their names in the same sentence she could feel her heart skipping a beat. She just sat there, body tense and wide eyes, trying to copy with the whole thing. Y/N didn’t dare to turn around from her spot on the front of the classroom to meet the curly haired boy that sat on the back corner of his room, looking way too cool to be considered normal at 8 a.m. Instead, as soon as the bell rang, she grabbed all her stuff and hushed out of the classroom, practically running to Mr. Spencer’s office, where he told he’d be in case anyone needed to switch partners for the assignments, but he also warned he’d only be doing it with an amazing excuse. So when Y/N finally got to the door to wait for her teacher she realised she had no good reason to switch, or at least “I don’t want to be around him” or “I think he’s a prick” aren’t necessary great argument to get rid of him.
She didn’t have much energy or concentration to actually formulate a proper excuse, Mr. Spencer was already approaching and beside him was the devil himself.
“Oh, Y/N, dear, is everything okay?” the professor asked as soon as he noticed the girl standing in front of his office door.
“Hm yeah, everything’s fine, I just wanted to-“
“Hey, you’re the girl I’m partnering with” Raul completely cut her off with what it seemed to be a permanent smirk on his face.
“Yes, and about that, professor, is there any chance I could change partners for this project?”
