The Teen Wolf movie’s lack of context to the Derek & Sheriff Stilinski relationship is a travesty because you know this man helped Derek Hale raise his son.

You can feel the history in their shared frustration over Eli’s fixation with the jeep. You see how easily either of them show up when the other calls for back up. Sheriff didn't hesitate to be the bad cop and threaten Derek’s son so Eli would cut Derek some slack. Stiles’ father was there to help Derek figure out how to be a good parent, I have no doubt he showed up a few times to the house on his days off to babysit. And I know Derek has called the Sheriff at the station over the smallest emergencies. In the process Derek found himself growing fond of Stilinski, even seeing him as a father figure. Surely he enjoyed how much it drove Stiles up the wall when his dad called to talk not about the FBI, but how amazing Derek was doing with Eli. I can almost hear the frustration in Stiles voice as he realizes Derek Hale is trying to replace him, maybe to spite him. Definitely to spite him.

Derek and Argent had an understanding. Derek and Stiles put aside their differences to save each other over and over. But when Derek needed someone, the one man left to protect Beacon Hills stepped in to help the big scary werewolf without hesitation. Sheriff Stilinski never forgot about the young Hale boy who lost everything, even when that boy jeopardized his son’s life. He knew Derek needed a parent to show him the ropes. He also knew how hard it was to raise Stiles as a widowed father, and one look at Eli told him Derek couldn't do this alone, not like he had. Claudia would want her husband to help Derek, to put aside their differences, and be there for each other. And he was there to defend Derek after he was gone, to ensure Eli knew just what kind of father he had. The film’s ending aside, I know Eli wound up in the Sheriff’s care, staying in Stiles’ old bedroom because there was no way that man wasn’t seeing what he started through for Derek’s sake.

This Sterek-adjacent dynamic is everything, and it hurts that we will never get the Hale spin-off these two deserve because, wow the emotional subcontext that carries through those 15 unspoken years is too much.

I know Derek got stabbed. But we literally got an on-screen Derek dad joke. If you think this man has not seen Disney’s the lion king with all his siblings as a child and then proceeded to have to watch it 1 million more times with his own child you’re in delusion.

Headcanons Inspired by the Teen Wolf movie:

  • Eli is not just a Sterek child, I would bet money that he was conceived thanks to or at the Nemeton. Possibly both, depending on the AU. (Lowkey, I have *thoughts* about the Nemeton just spontaneously creating Eli all on its own because it has access to both Stiles and Derek DNA and is the original agent of chaos in the TW universe.)
  • While Eli was busy freaking out about being a werewolf and subconsciously stopping his own transformation, the Nemeton was drawing his spark closer. Thus the sleepwalking. Which, if we must accept the horror of canon, would probably grow more frequent when he moves to LA. That child is bringing Derek back to life before he can legally own a license and the Nemeton is his wingman.
  • Coach refuses to acknowledge who Derek is (he totally knows him/remembers him) because 'that jerk refused to try out for lacross!' and he 'is too busy to entertain basketball players or their delusions of grandeur!'
  • An alpha is only as strong as his pack bonds and Scott letting them all go dormant is why he didn't have the strength to hold down the nogistune/stop Derek. That the Hales remain close even when apart is why Derek did.
  • Stiles left the jeep purely because he *knew* toddler Eli was obsessed with it and it would drive Derek crazy for at least a decade. It's his way of flirting from a distance.
  • Eli knows who Stiles is (possibly very well). He did not put the pieces together with the jeep being his because it was too obvious and his brain flew right over that connection.
  • Eli's earliest memories are of 'helping' his dad fix the jeep, which is one of the reasons he's attached to it.

Okay but running with the Nemeton-created-Eli theory is just. Scary as hell but also really funny. Like imagine Stiles and Derek both feeling drawn out to the tree stump, confused as hell as to why they feel like they HAVE to get there, only to find baby Eli full on baby-in-a-basket-style.

So they take him to the station because duh they need to figure out who his parents are, so they run his dna but since his eyes flared they keep it quiet since they don’t think a social worker can handle a werewolf baby

And just who’s dna gets pinged?? None other than the (exonerated) murder suspect Derek Hale AND the delinquent sheriffs son Stiles Stilinski (who’s dad once booked him to try and scare him after he first stole the Jeep when he was like 14 (which definitely did not work))

Noah just reads the results, sighs so hard he nearly breaks something, and then goes to Derek’s loft where he and Stiles are babysitting the kid, and he can hear the bickering and sarcasm before he’s even through the front door

*then Stiles and Derek go on to raise Eli, Stiles decides he doesn’t want to be in the FBI and instead opens up a private investigation business specialising in supernatural shit, they buy a house together, they fall in love, Noah has flashbacks to raising Stiles whenever he babysits Eli and Derek has a family that loves him*
