Excerpt: Allura was barely awake when the paladins finally stumbled into the castle-ship. Hunk and Lance were limping, leaning on each other for support. Pidge was whimpering as she clutched her right arm, as if every step she took jostled it to the point of unbearable pain. Keith was gripping his head and wobbling from side to side as if he had a concussion, his feet dragging behind him. But as much as she worried for them, her eyes couldn’t stop scanning the group for Kolivan. She found him trailing behind the rest, eyes half lidded and leaning heavily on his left side. She barely managed to hold herself back from running and embracing him. 

When they made eye contact, however, neither she nor he did hold back any longer.

The two felt themselves approach each other, a silent understanding, a soft realization, passing through their eyes and mingling breaths as they stood inches apart.

Excerpt: “Kolivan of the Blade of Marmora,” the princess began, “I hope to ask to court you officially, should you wish to accept me as your partner.”

The silence was deafening as the rest of the team turned to Kolivan, watching him with wide eyes and open mouths. 

What the leader did next, however, was more of a surprise than Allura’s confession. Kolivan frowned, as if hurt, before he stood and walked away. Antok immediately followed him, giving her a quick, disappointed glare. The paladins and princess were left wondering that had just happened.

Sometimes, when they were lying down at night, Allura would tell Kolivan stories about the Age of Exploration, about time long past before Zarkon took reign of Known Universe, about the Era of Peace.

Second Part of Day Five.

Except: “Kolivan watched him intently, still unsure if this was truly his future-self. He appeared so confident and so much more open than Kolivan currently felt. But it was obvious where such attitude came from. By observing them interact, Kolivan knew the Queen and her consort were close, and fed off each other. Allura seemed to take matters more seriously and with certain level of maturity she did not currently have. Kolivan, on the other hand, seemed more approachable, amiable, and overall less stoic than he knew he was.

It was really astonishing, if what their future-selves say is true, how much love can change someone. Kolivan never thought he would ever come to love a person so much, but when he looked at his older self’s face, he could see the adoration in his eyes, the protectiveness in his stance, and the aura of home and completeness around them.”

Allurivan Week 2017, Day 1

A/N: Got a veeery late start since I’ve been sick all week and this turned out way longer than intended (story of my life). This was a good kick in the pants to get some practice Allurivan oneshots down as warm-ups for the Rarepair Big Bang fic I’m working on. Allurivan can never have too much love!

    Between the nerve-wracking vargas of radio silence, Red’s unexplained assault, and her own preconceived bias- Allura’s first meeting with Kolivan had not been particularly auspicious.

She met them in the Red Lion’s hangar, dressed in her white battle suit and flanked by the paladins who stayed behind. She stood tall, proud (like the leader Alfor had long ago believed she could be), tracking the two strangers with a hardened gaze as they disembarked behind Keith and Shiro. They were massive. And dangerous. The others may not understand… but I do. I remember what they’re capable of. Visions of laser fire, orange explosions, and the smoke-hazed memory of her father’s last goodbye served a bitter reminder.

Excerpt:  Allura couldn’t believe what she was looking at. This must be a dream, she thought. There was no way Kolivan and Antok were standing before her, both too youthful and too inexperienced.

Excerpt: Kolivan had admired little in his life. Being raised in a war-torn society, there was not much to be amazed by, not much beauty to witness. He was born into the world, taken from his parents, molded into a soldier for the Empire, and thrust into the frontline. Kolivan remembers he was still too young to even hold a sword without it wobbling out of his hands. It didn’t stop him from trying to prove himself, however. Back then, what he had admired were his commanders and generals, the Empire and Emperor.

Now, after decapheebs spent learning the truth behind the war, seeing and shedding blood, working with the Blade of Marmora – there was hardly anything he hadn’t seen, or that would impress him.

Until he met the Princess of Altea, that is.

Excerpt:  “But what you both want can’t suddenly be brought on. Intimacy isn’t something shared or created overnight. You must learn to work with each other, and I mean outside of battle. You know how to fight together, but you need to learn to live together. And make time for each other; it helps. Besides, intimacy isn’t just about making love. It’s about trusting each other, and talking about each other’s wishes, hopes, and dreams. It’s about simply spending time together, getting to know each other better. It’s about knowing the other person will always be there for you no matter what. It’s about falling asleep together when you’re too exhausted to do anything else, and knowing the other will be there waiting for you when you wake up…”

Allurivan Week 2017 - Day 5: Past / Future

It was over. The ten millennia war was over and the Galra Empire was under heavy reformation. Sure, there were still a lot of dispute coming from the more power-hungry leaders and people trying to seize for more power, but they were nothing that couldn’t be settled down through peaceful talks and diplomation.

The Universe finally was at peace.

Never in Kolivan’s wildest dreams that they would live to witness this day. They thought they would die without ever seeing the end of their contribution to the Blade of Marmora, to pass along the torch to the next generations hoping that their succesors would be able to dismantle the Empire one day.

It was… unreal. Kolivan had been spending the days expecting things to fall apart, but it never came.

“Something in your mind?” Allura asked from their side, her voice teasing but gentle.

“I could probably make a list. Do you want it?” Kolivan asked back, offering their own teasing smile. She laughed, before taking their hand as both of them walked side by side to the altar.

Princess Allura of Altea was supposed to marry Prince Lotor of the Galra by the end of the war, to unite their people together and bring peace.

Instead, Allura had refused the arrangement, choosing Kolivan instead.

Kolivan had been a mix of relief, joy, and incredulity when Allura proposed to them, and fear too, if the Galran Prince would take an offense to that. But Prince Lotor had thrown his arms up in the air, yelling “Thank Stars!” before going to propose a prince of his own choosing too.

And now they were going to have a double wedding.

Kolivan still couldn’t believe their life sometimes.

“Don’t start crying now", Allura teased again.

“Don’t worry”, Kolivan smiled. “The people of Galra can’t cry.”

There was no reason for them to. Not now. Not anymore.

Allurivan Week 2017 - Day 4: Appreciation / Admiration

The first time Allura took Kolivan on a ride with the Blue Lion, it had been quite… an experience.

“She moves like nothing I’ve ever seen before”, Kolivan breathed out, an uncharacteristically wide grin splitting their face. The Blue Lion moved like she danced, fluid, just like her elemental power.

Allura beamed in pride at the complimet. “Of course! She’s the best!”

Bracing their hands on the pilot seat, they looked down on Allura. “How many times you can do barrell roll?”

“Is that a challenge, Kolivan?” Allura’s eyes twinkled with mischief.

“I can’t believe this”, Hunk shook his head. “First Lance took some chicks for a joyride with the Blue Lion. Now Allura with Kolivan. Is this, like, a Blue Paladin thing?”

Coran rubbed his chin. “While I’m sure Blaytz took more than just ‘chicks’ into the Blue Lion, I think it’s more of a paladin’s thing. King Alfor certainly took Allura’s mother on more than one occassion. Even Zarkon did the same, I’m sure.”

“Great”, Keith threw his arms up. “I don’t need that mental image. Thanks Coran.”

Lance looked out to where the Blue Lion streaked across the space and sighed. “At least she won’t get handcuffed to a tree.”

Allurivan Week 2017 - Day 3: Intimacy / Infatuation

There was something in the way Allura moved that intrigued Kolivan. Perhaps because she was so strange, so unlike any beings that they had ever seen and met with before. She was so small, so graceful, beautiful. She was all the adjectives that their brain spouted every time they saw her.

“Somebody’s in love”, Antok teased, nudging their side.

Kolivan huffed. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

But Antok was right. He was always right, stars curse him.

And that was the first thing they said the moment Antok stepped out of the healing pods, a few quintents after the battle with the druids.

“I think I’m in love.”

Antok barked out a laugh so hard he toppled over.

Allurivan Week 2017 - Day 2: Synergy / Support

After she wormholed the Castleship back to the Known Universe, Allura could notice the gloom hanging above everyone’s head. They won, they defeated Zarkon, but the cost was too great.

Her Paladins were inconsolable, losing their Leader– Keith even more so, since he also lost a friend. And she felt grief bearing down upon her shoulders, thick and heavy.

She headed to the observatory and noticed a familiar figure shillouetted by the blinking lights from the stars.

“Kolivan?”

She was trying to be quiet, but still Kolivan gasped as if they didn’t notice her presence. They turned to face her, ears pinned back and anguish clear on their face.

Her dress flowed behind her as she slipped to their side. Wordlessly, she spread her arms and they fell into her embrace obligingly, their shoulders shaking. 

Galra couldn’t weep and shed tears; that didn’t mean they couldn’t express their grief the other way. Losing Antok crushed them– she still could remember the grief in their voice when Antok was killed.

They lost so much already. Allura knew that defeating Zarkon was not the end of it, but for now, perhaps they could have a moment to grieve.

Allurivan Week 2017 - Day 1: Trust / Hope

Surrounded by their enemies, Allura and Kolivan stood back-to-back. Allura transformed her Blue Bayard into a whip sword, ready to lash out. Behind her, she could hear Kolivan growl.

The raid didn’t go as planned and now the two of them were left without their teammates; Allura without the Blue Lion. The situation didn’t look so good for them currently.

“Allura”, Kolivan called.

“Yes?” she replied, her focus still on the sentries in front of them.

“I will create an opening for you. On my mark, run and get the Blue Lion”, they said.

“And leave you here alone?” Allura hissed. That was not happening.

A quiet chuff, Allura knew Kolivan had that gentle smile of theirs behind their mask. “I trust that you will return. Do you trust me?”

She did.

They attacked and Allura ran as fast as her legs could carry. Reaching out to the Blue Lion. The Ancient Beast answered to her call and bore down into the Empire base like a Goddess of Destruction.

“Let’s go save Kolivan before they do anything more reckless”, she told the Blue Lion as soon as she was in the pilot seat. “Shall we?”

The Blue Lion roared in agreement.
