Β i’m very new to writeblr but i’m hoping to make some friends in time for my first attempt at nanowrimo. please feel free to drop me a line or tag me in anything you post!

this will be an interactive fiction story in which the MC lives in a nameless city in an alternate 1920s. this city is populated by supernatural creatures such as vampires, shifters, ghouls … all looking to carve out their own space in the city’s criminal underground.
(genres: supernatural/horror, romance, adventure, crime)
the (currently empty) dev blog for this project is @roguesgame
dizzy spells is a gay fairy tale about a fairy godmother and a so-called wicked witch who must set aside their age-old rivalry and work together when their spells counteract and cause the two sworn enemies to become stranded in the present day. now posing as newlyweds, the pair of magic-users must keep their abilities hidden from the outside world and find a way back to their fairytale kingdom β€” before it’s happily never after for all!
(genres: fantasy, romantic comedy.)Β
intro post.

come away again (working title)

come away again is about an adult who wasn't The Chosen One of a hidden realm as a child but gets a second chance at saving that place anyway.

HYSTERIA HEIGHTS/ RE-INTRODUCTION

status: it’s being planned, but like, i’m doing character development with drabbles and short excerpts genre: speculative fiction, sci-fi setting: Β the town of hysteria heights. which, if you’re familiar with my palms universe, is a universe that takes place on a different planet where superpowers and doors to different universes exist. but, while the β€˜bury me deep’ story takes place when claudia (the main lead of this and bury me deep) is in her mid-thirties, this takes place when she’s 20. the aesthetic is very 1960s and 1970s and while superpowers exist, they’re not a big issue unless they’re dangerous. pov: the story will be in 3rd person, but some drabbles might be in 2nd or 1st, since i’m just exploring. warnings: some horror elements / nightmares and unreality / death / people not coming back quite right / missing people / medical abuse

ABOUT:

Claudia Daviau prides herself on being observant, until it hits her that she’s been blind to her home environment her whole life. While she was able to leave town to attend college with her best friend Robin Kang, not many other people have even wanted to leave their small town. It’s almost like their in a trance.Β  Then, there are stories that, if they try, they come back different or wrong. She’s witnessed it firsthand with her cousin but it never became obvious until her friend Kit disappeared, came back, and wasn’t the conspiracy theorist she knew and loved. Not only that, but other people have been known to go missing and come back different as well.

Some blame it on the town’s luck, some blame the government, but Claudia’s curious about the fact that not everyone comes back different and some people come back the same. She also wants to know why the others come back wrong, and if it has anything to do with the doors and objects people whisper about that have the ability to take you another world. While Claudia’s not exactly sure she believes in doors to other universes, she does often dream of the missing and sees the dead while she’s awake. She even has slight echoes of thoughts thrown her way when she’s in the company of a grieving family member. It’s all too much, and very confusing, but she wants to learn more.

However, if she learns more, there may be a price to pay. And it’s not something small…

FEATURES:

stepford housewive-esque suburban drama but with a twist / weird town shenanigans / family drama / found family / dark comedy / superpowers being used like they’re just part of life / best friends turned lovers / wlw romance / though some people die or go missing, most people of color survive

TAGS:

#wip: hysteria heights / #writing: hysteria heights

PINTEREST:i’m still fixing it.

CHARACTERS: (WILL ADD LINKS EVENTUALLY)

  • claudia daviau - has the gift of intuition and is basically haunted by her gift, her nightmares, and the fact that she knows where her missing brother is and that she almost died the same night he did…yet manages to occasionally see him from the beyond. also a sassy little shit with a heart of gold. quite sad and paranoid because she only gets severely ill whenever she’s in hysteria heights.
  • robin kang - to add
  • alexander roscoe-to add
  • susana daviau - to add
  • kit robinson - to add
  • more but i’ll get there …

i love going back to the beginning of a piece of media with the full weight of knowing how it ends. you see characters get introduced and it’s literally like

[id: theΒ β€˜they don’t know’ meme edited to sayΒ β€˜they don’t know the profound and life-changing effect they will have on each other’. it shows a simple drawing of a guy with a party hat standing in the corner of a room, looking at two couples who are happy and dancing. the guy is edited to have shiny, tearful eyes. end id.]

love & war characters: cora reeves aka aphrodite

main character. [longue singer] at the cool breeze night club. con-artist who cons people and who may or may not have killed a woman named heleen. she's very much a femme fatale, however, there's a twist. but guess who's not telling you what that twist is?
  • "i find you charming but you're not very intelligent," cora told ford with a smirk.
  • ford swallowed because he knew that smirk meant he'd been had, and he'd always hated and loved that about her. she'd fuck him over constantly, and he'd get even. but right now, at this very moment, it was different. he didn't know why, and in a way, he was scared to discover why. "why?" he finally asked.
  • "because you're asking 'why' and not asking the bigger question..." she hummed, grazing her index finger under his chin. she kept that smirk on her lips, and then she kissed him, before she proceeded to walk away; the stage waiting for her next siren's song.
  • and ford, having proved her point, sat and wondered what she'd done, and how much shit he'd be in once he'd figured it out.

Full offense but your writing style is for you and nobody else. Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use β€œunrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Whatever it is you want to do. Write.

Having placeholder names for things makes otherwise tense scenes unintentionally hilarious sometimes

[working on a new writing project] Definitely the hardest part of writing is getting started. [working on the middle of a project] Definitely the hardest part of writing is what happens between the beginning and the end. [finishing a writing project] Definitely the hardest part of writing is the end. [editing] Well well well, if it isn’t my old arch nemesis, editing… defiitely the hardest part of writing,

the struggle of being in a one-person fandom for your wip is too real. i don't post about it enough for anyone to even know what the hell it's about but every once in a while my brain gets intensely consumed by the need to talk about every single aspect of it
