A normal day. At least, as normal as days feel knowing she can't expect what's become a normal, familiar comforting presence in the squad room, no offhand sardonic remark while reviewing a case. Alex left this abruptly; so did Stabler; so did Casey. And yet, while Olivia of course felt those absences, none of them stung as much as the distinct lack of Rafael Barba at SVU. Carisi does a good job, but there's no replacing the man Olivia has grown to depend on - not that she'd ever admit she depended on him, or at least his steadfast presence, knowing he had her back. When Stabler left, she thought she'd resolved not to let herself care so much, but here she is. Walking into the squad room and feeling the drag of what is once more just work, which used to motivate her.

She juggles her coffee and a short stack of files she took home to review (nigh impossible with Noah insisting she pay attention to Paw Patrol) to open her office door. The coffee nearly falls out of her hand, however, just as her jaw drops.

"Rafa? What are you doing here? I thought you were fired." And he didn't even say goodbye before he left town, which hurt like hell, the bastard. And yet, here he is, sitting in front of her desk looking just as sassy as always.

Rafa hated how he’d left Olivia and SVU, hated that he hadn’t been allowed to tell anyone. It wasn’t that he wanted to keep what had happened from her or anyone else but it had been made clear what was expected of him. That if he’d let it slip there would be consequences but if he played his part he might be transferred back but he had to play by the rules. The whole reason he was transferred was because he disobeyed a direct order from his superiors and went rogue by going after a powerful man. He took the punishment though and there was nothing he could do to change the fact that he’d put the man behind bars for the crimes he’d committed. He didn’t care how it looked to the outside world that the man had been one of NYPD’s biggest supporters. He wouldn’t change anything.

When he was told that he would be transferred back to SVU he was happy. Rafa had decided to keep it quiet until it was official and he was in the city. It’s why he’d told no one and just showed up the morning after he’d settled back into his new normal.

He saw the coffee start to tumblr and moved to catch it though it spilled a little. “Morning, Olivia,” he smiled as he sat the coffee on her desk. “No, transferred for breaking the direct orders of my boss. Which resulted in a transfer to upstate New York and now I’m back, if you’ll have me of course,” he explained before returning to his seat in front of her desk. “Carisi will stay on of course, but two DAs are better than one.”

She glanced down at their hands, so close as he grabbed the coffee, and lost a few seconds just staring at them. If you'll have me. A funny way to put it. As if Olivia had ever had any influence over what ADA was assigned to SVU. But would she have him? Yes, in a heartbeat. What a stupid question.

She snapped out of it, looking back up at him and letting him take the coffee from her completely. She went to stand behind her desk, a way of putting distance between them before she said something she would regret later. She was relieved he was on the other side of the desk now, it made it easier to occupy her gaze with work things. A cup of pens, a stapler, a procedures manual for CSU, her blotter covered in notes. The file slapped onto the desktop smartly as she dropped it with a little more force than necessary.

"SVU's never had two before," she replied neutrally. SVU had also never had one as good as him. Cabot came close, but Barba was a showman in the courtroom, sharper than nearly anyone else she'd ever met. "We have the budget for that now?" Anything to keep the topic on non-emotional ground.

GET TO KNOW ME MEME - [3/5] movies = pirates of the caribbean: curse of the black pearl

I respect that everyone has different interpretations, and I try to be open to them all. I get a little scared to express when there is an interpretation that just doesn’t work for me, though, because so members of the fandom can be very vehement about their interpretations being correct.

Please keep in mind that you’re entitled to your version, but that doesn’t mean that other people have to accept your version, and it certainly doesn’t mean you should pressure them into accepting it.

If someone doesn’t agree with your thoughts on the material, then just scroll on. You don’t need to interact. Not everyone has to agree with you, and no one wants to be corrected for being “wrong”. Be nice to each other and respect alternative ideas. You don’t have to agree with them, but that doesn’t mean you should be an asshole about it.
