Hey girls, what would the reaction be if I created a ladies-only discord? Not because I want to leave the men out or anything, but there's some stuff, specifically health related stuff, that can be uncomfortable to talk about in the open, even if it's just a "should my body part be doing that" question. It would be a Catholic group, although certainly our non-Catholic friends would be welcome to join so long as they're fine with the group following the teachings of the Church (because there really are enough non-Catholic women's groups, health or otherwise). Would anyone be interested? Let me know in the replies and if enough of us are interested I'll set it up!

I’m going to reblog this to give those of y’all who didn’t see this a chance to respond! Girls, feel free to reblog to give your female followers the opportunity!

The server is set up! I'll be sending invites to the women who have replied to the post by now, anyone else can message me for the invite. I'm so excited!!!

Update 9/17: I'm closing invites for the time being after having quite a few people message me and ask to join lately so I can get the new people acclimated. If you've messaged me I've sent you an invite (so long as you aren't a bot lol) but let me know if that doesn't work!

If anyone else would like to join, I promise I'll open invites again someday!

FWIW, "mauve" was one of the coal-tar dyes developed in the mid-19th century that made eye-wateringly bright clothing fashionable for a few decades.

It was an eye-popping magenta purple

HOWEVER, like most aniline dyes, it faded badly, to a washed-out blue-grey ...

...which was the color ignorant youngsters in the 1920s associated with “mauve”.

(This dress is labeled "mauve" as it is the color the above becomes after fading).

They colored their vision of the past with washed-out pastels that were NOTHING like the eye-popping electric shades the mid-Victorians loved. This 1926 fashion history book by Paul di Giafferi paints a hugely distorted, I would say dishonest picture of the past.

Ever since then this faded bluish lavender and not the original electric eye-watering hot pink-purple is the color associated with the word “mauve”.

Oh! Just like the Victorians did to the Gothic, where actual Gothic cathedrals which had been built to be bright and full of light were portrayed as dark and gloomy places, because that's what happens after a cathedral is filled with candles for several hundred years.

I showed this post to my boyfriend and he tried to take his shirt off like a girl and

uh

yeah

Out of the 82k notes my post got this is by far the best comment holy shit thank u for being u

So i tried it both ways and uh

i mean how do you do the first one without pulling out all your hair?

this made me laugh really hard….

and it made me realize that girls and boys pull their shirt off differently. /amazed

but seriously I think girls just do the cross arm thing because of HAIR like demonstrated

So one year, one URL change, and a hair cut later, I decide to try again… FOR SCIENCE!

Its not science unless you write it down so

First method:

imageimage

Well done, i guess…

Second:

imageimage

I fucked up

Girls… how?

I DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN HAVE SUCH DIFFERENT WAYS OF TAKING OFF SHIRTS AND SO MUCH DIFFICULTY DOING IT THE OTHER WAY

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!

It’s all in the way that girl/boys shirts are made.

Girls shirts have less armpit room then boy’s do and are generally shorter so pulling it off over your head is more practical because by lifting your arms all the way up you make enough room for the sleeves to just slip off.

Boys shirts have more room and are generally longer so it is easy to slip them off over your head.

but if you take a girls shirt off like a boys shirt you will get your arms caught because there isn’t much armpit space.

and if you take a boys shirt off like a girls shit you will still have your head in it when you’ve lifted your arms all the way up because of the shirt’s length.

It has nothing to do with us. It is entirely to do with how our shirts are made. I figured it out for you. YOU’RE WELCOME!

bless you

look what is back on my dash. Jesus.

This came back but with ACTUAL SCIENCE you are the saviour of our generation

I have no words

I seriously just needed this

This deserves the 1 million+ notes it has.

Literally tumblr broke from sll the science

OK, there’s a lot of people who’ve seen way more stuff on here than I have, but that is NOT a normal glitched gif…

wait wHat i got it too

Y’all I can do it both ways really easily, and actually do the “girl” way more even though I wear guys shirts so idk

WHAT WAS THE THIRD GIF? I GOT THE GLITCH? (TUMBLR LET ME SAVE THE GLITCH?)

TUMBLR WTF?

Sometimes I wonder about this website.

world heritage post

I don’t do either of those ways?? I pull out one arm first and then take it off by pulling that sleeve or the bottom usually iirc

Non-native English speakers shouldn’t worry too much about finding words that sound the same confusing (brake-break, through-threw) when learning English bc every single person with English as their first language has had the universal experience of using L’Oréal shampoo in the colorful fish bottles at some point when they were kids and believed that “tear-free” meant if it gets in your eyes you won’t cry (and learned the meaning of betrayal that day) only to discover later that “tear-free” meant your hair won’t get tangled and it will be easier to brush out and not your eyes won’t burn with the fires of hell if it gets in them soooo....

LISTEN I’M STILL REELING FROM THIS BETRAYAL. How on EARTH are you supposed to know the difference? Tear vs tear???? And there’s a smiling kid??? And you don’t think of ‘tangles’ as being ‘torn’ out you think of them being PULLED so it should’ve said TANGLE FREE or HELPS PREVENT TANGLES’ but “NO MORE TEARS” sounds like “no more CRYING” and I THINK THEY KNEW THAT. I THINK THIS WAS A DELIBERATE MARKETING PLOY MEANT TO BE CONFUSING WITH BUILT-IN PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY OH NO WE MEANT TEARS LIKE YOU TEAR A PIECE OF PAPER NOT TEARS LIKE CRYING TEARS SURE YOU DID YOU SIT ON A THRONE OF LIES

This has to be an intentional marketing scam right

To the girl in my literature class who referred to the forgiveness of Mr. Tumnus as "just christian propoganda," you have lived rent free in my head for three years.

When you one day find yourself looking in the mirror and seeing Mr. Tumnus looking back at you, not because you were necessarily not brave enough, wise enough, or kind enough to avoid becoming Mr. Tumnus, but because everyone takes a turn being Mr. Tumnus, I hope you have a Lucy by your side.

why do celebrities get defensive when they get called nepo babies when there’s the objectively much funnier option of responding with “how dare you speak to me like that. do you know who my father is?”

one of the best tips for Real Life that I’ve ever picked up is to always highball your estimate whenever someone asks you “when can you get this done by” by about 25% (if you can get away with it). that way, if it ends up being harder than you thought, you’ve got extra time to figure things out and if you were right about how much time it takes then you get to look like an absolute genius instead of just a simply competent person.

what you may not have realized is that I learned this crucial piece of life advice from an episode of Star Trek where Scotty is telling Geordi that whenever he told Kirk something on the Enterprise was at full capacity, it was always only ever a notch or so below full capacity so that Scotty looked like the god of all engineers when he was able to magically hack the warp drive to run a little beyond what he’d told everyone else was “full capacity” and honestly that one throwaway gag from Star Trek has changed my life.

something my mum always taught us was to look for the resources we're entitled to, and use them. public land? know your access rights and responsibilities, go there and exercise them. libraries? go there and talk to librarians and read community notice boards, find out what other people are doing around you, ask questions, use the printers. public records offices? go in there, learn what they hold and what you can access, look at old maps, get your full birth certificate copied, check out the census from your neighbourhood a hundred years ago. are you entitled to social support? find out, take it, use it. does the local art college have facilities open to the public? go in, look around, check out their exhibit on ancient looms or whatever, shop in their campus art supply store. it applies online too, there is so much shit in the world that belongs to the public commons that you can access and use if you just take a minute to wonder what might exist!!!

today was my mum's birthday, and I showed her that thousands of people were liking and sharing her advice. she was very moved and pleased, and wanted to add that you shouldn't just feel entitled to be in these spaces. you should feel at home. no matter who you are or what you're going through in any phase of life, public spaces and services belong to you.

not to sound corny but the textile arts make me feel connected to the world around me. it's so intentional and deliberate and when i sit and do it, i think a lot about how many other women that came before me used to do it, how many hands have used the same supplies i am using, and how many other people might be doing the same thing as me all across the world right now

one of my favourite things is when museums have really old sewing tools and they are so similar to the needles we use today but so many lifetimes have happened since they were last used

hundreds , maybe thousands of years old, yet so alike to what I use to create today
