Also: don’t stigmatize HIV+ individuals because they all have different circumstances and might’ve  gotten the virus from a variety of sources (sex, occupational, birth, blood transfusions in other countries).

HIV-related stigma remains a huge barrier to preventing HIV, and is linked to a low level of people testing for HIV.

The bad news is that Trump is cutting America’s spending on HIV year after year.  He has taken steps to weaken the Affordable Care Act since coming to power.

Some people don’t understand how big this is, opening a school, especially a public one is a huge undertaking and even with LeBron money it’s costly.

It’s really nice to see black celebs and athletes actually show their support for the community, rather than sparing a few words about it.

South African surgeons have successfully performed the world’s first transplant of middle-ear bones that uses 3-D printed components, a research university said.
The technique “may be the answer to conductive hearing loss—a middle ear problem caused by congenital birth defects, infection, trauma or metabolic diseases,” Pretoria University said in a statement seen Thursday.
The surgery replaced the hammer, anvil and stirrup—the smallest bones in the body which make up the middle ear—with similarly-shaped titanium pieces produced on a 3-D printer.
“3-D technology is allowing us to do things we never thought we could,” said University of Pretoria health faculty professor Mashudu Tshifularo.

Yes, pollution is caused primarily by companies, national coal, the pentagon, ect. but small scale community clean up efforts are still good! cleaning your local park wont save the ozone but it will make life better for the neighborhood kids and wildlife! world problems arent a zero sum game. Small improvements are still improvements that make things better and I dont see how deriding them is positive in any context. You can agree there needs to be more large scale efforts without saying small scale efforts are useless and dont matter.

Bruce: Why is it always “Hulk fights this” or “Hulk vs that”? Why can’t it ever be “Bruce Banner has a good day” or “Bruce Banner gets some sleep”?

There’s a subreddit called r/totallynotrobots where people pretend to be badly-disguised robots. They post cat pictures with captions like “SINCE I AM A HUMAN, THIS SMALL FELINE GENERATES POSITIVE EMOTIONS IN MY CARBON-BASED BRAIN” or something like that.

There’s another subreddit called r/SubSimulatorGPT2, that trains GPT-2 on various subreddits to create imitations of their output.

Now r/SubSimulatorGPT2 has gotten to r/totallynotrobots, which means we get to see a robot pretending to be a human pretending to be a robot pretending to be a human.

Here is a sample:

If only Alan Turing were alive to see this.

Disney: we vaguely implied that the villain’s toady was into him! :D canon representation!!! :D :D :D
Marvel Studios (also Disney): we had a nameless extra ask about his husband :) you’re welcome :)
PBS: The title character’s elementary school teacher will get married to a man on-screen and all of his students will be there to support him, nbd.

Okay I know this is a jokey post but it IS a big deal for PBS! Back in 2005, the Arthur spin-off, Postcards from Buster, had an episode where Buster visited a (real life!) family that had two lesbian moms. The episode never used the words ‘lesbian’, ‘gay’, or ‘homosexual’, just had Buster hanging out with this family for a little bit.

The US Secretary of Education at the time was SUCH a fucking homophobe that when she found out about the episode, she demanded that PBS return all federal funding used to make the episode. PBS only aired it on a few channels.

Marc Brown, the original creator of the Arthur books, recorded a video about how important it was to him that all types of families be represented in the show. PBS has been trying for 14 years to get gay rep and it’s important that we support the show since - as they say in the credits of each episode - it’s funded by viewers, not by corporations!

I think we really need to reaffirm now that no amount of homophobia can be acceptable in our culture. There is no such this as harmless or victimless homophobia. All homophobia contributes to violence against us. You can not “disagree” with lgbt people’s “lifestyles” without supporting the rhetoric and legislation that puts us in very real danger.

Homophobia isn’t that black and white though. You can hate the sin and still love the sinner.

OK, as a queer person who grew up in a genuinely loving, caring, utterly wonderful, and still deeply homophobic Church, let me try to fill in what you’re not understanding about this whole “Love the sinner” deal.

When we refer to people like you as “Homophobic” I want to be clear what we’re saying here.  This is not a judgment of your intent.  We are not describing you as a hateful person, as an aggressive or violent person.  But we are saying that your actions and your attitudes participate in and reinforce a system of rhetoric that encourages violence against LGBT people, and, far, far more importantly, that forces millions of LGBT people to live in shame.

That’s really what this comes down to.  Not hate.  Not violence.  Shame.

Consider the point purely theologically.  Jesus tells us that to desire a sinful thing is as bad as to act on that desire.  My lusting after another mans wife is as bad as actually sleeping with her.  My genuine desire to hurt someone is as bad as actually hurting them.

So when you tell me that loving another man is a sin, you’re not just talking about physical acts of intimacy.  You don’t get to draw the line there.  You don’t get to pretend that I can be bisexual so long as I never actually physically act on it (which is already a terrible burden to place on someone).  You’re saying that every time I look at a guy and imagine how soft his lips would be, or think about how beautiful his eyes are, I am sinning.  I am a sinner every time a dude walks past me with a tight sweater on that shows of his arms.  Every time he has nice hair or a nice smile.

My love, according to you, is a sin.  That is the burden you are forcing people to live under.  That burden forced me so deep into the closet that I didn’t even know I was there.  It forced me to repress every genuine feeling of sexual attraction for other men, and to live for years with those feelings straining to get out, whilst I struggled with the constant guilt and shame that came from having those thoughts.

And I am one of the lucky ones, because I’m alive to have this conversation.  Because for many, many LGBT people that guilt and shame manifests as self-harm, substance abuse, low esteem that leads them into abusive relationships, and very often suicide.

You tell yourself that you’re one of the good ones because you don’t hate us.  You only hate what we “do”.  But what we “do” is living.  It’s being alive and whole and a part of this world, and if you genuinely believe that we can’t have that then you might as well put the gun to our heads and pull the trigger.  Because you’re already doing that, you just don’t have the guts to admit it.

“You only hate what we do, but what we do is living” Wow. This is beautiful and so well written

reblogging for perfect commentary and future reference

Unfortunately for you people there comes a clear line where you don’t cross. People have the right to not agree with your lifestyle.

To repeat a point- our “lifestyle” is the fact that we exist, that we are alive, that we are ourselves and do not hide.

If you “disagree” with that, if you want us to NOT exist, to not be alive, to not be who we are- then you’re a bigot.

So. That’s that.

K.

See that’s how you may  see it, but you know damn well that’s not the sentiment people intend when they say that they “don’t like your lifestyle.” You know damn fucking well what they mean. They mean that they intend to ill will towards you at all, in any way, period. They just don’t think your choices are poor.

Now to reiterate my point. When it comes to what individual people think, you can’t control that. There’s always going to be people who don’t agree with same-sex relationships, but as long as they’re not fucking attacking you you’re gunna have to live with that.

And before you or someone else calls me a big meanie bigot, I’m an open Bisexual

And I’m telling you that anyone who thinks our existence is a “poor choice” is a nasty fucking bigot and we have no obligation to be ok with that. Anyone who thinks us BEING ALIVE is a “poor choice” is dangerous.

And you won’t make them hate you less by defending their right to hate you.

if you ever feel stupid remember that kodak used to hold almost 90% of all camera sales in the US but fell off the face of the earth because in 1975 they created the first self-contained digital camera which would have been market-breaking but decided to trash the project because they figured that digital photography was a phase that people would grow out of, only to go out of business because they were the only company that wouldn’t commericalize on digital cameras

@iamoutofideas “capitalism promotes innovation!”

Kinda similar to how 3D printing is 40 year old technology, but the reason it’s big now is because the patent finally expired

Not to get controversial or anything but can we stop with making fun of women being abused by their husbands and playing it off as ‘straight culture’

I lost 10 followers for saying we shouldnt make fun of domestic abuse victims.

can we also please stop making fun of men being abused by their wives thanks

Good addition

Can we also stop acting that domestic abuse is just a “straight” thing?

It’s literally teaching our baby gays that any same sex relationship their going into is safe and they don’t need to be worried about being abused and controlled.

Another good addition
