project overview!

here is the initial post launching the marauders sequels project! this series has come a long way since I first introduced the idea, but this is the vision that these books will represent.

here are the very rough summaries for each book! they’re short and basic, since the project management team hadn’t been put together yet (and we also want to avoid spoilers), but we now have a wonderful team working on making these concepts as complex and magical as the world they’re set in.

here’s where the structure of the project team is laid out! we’ll let everyone know as each tier opens up, and if you’re interested in any of these positions, comment on this post to be tagged in future updates :)

if you just can’t wait to get involved, come join our discord! this is where you can chat directly with the project managers and other interested people about ideas for the stories, characters, and everything else, or just check out what we’ve already been talking about!

here is the polls page, where people can weigh in directly on some of the biggest factors in the series! there’s also a form where you can submit your own original characters to be included in the series, so don’t be shy to submit as many as you want.

Professor Earnest Pythia, Divination and Xylomancy          One of the older professors at Hogwarts, Professor Pythia is fairly amiable and enjoys connecting with every student, even those who don’t necessarily believe in divination or in their own abilities. Rather than insisting on every student unlocking their third eye, Pythia values skill in interpreting signs, visions, and dreams.

Professor Volaris Adair, Astronomy            Professor Adair is a hijabi Muslim, with dark skin and dark amber eyes. A graduate of Uagadou, they now teach the students of Hogwarts the secrets of the planets, supplemented with stories of the stars from all the places they’ve traveled.

Professor Adrienne Stubbs, Herbology         Having gained a great love for herbology in their youth, Professor Stubbs has become a well-loved professor working alongside Professor Sprout. They are a pan half-blood Slytherin, with their short black hair adorned with flowers. They have one blue eye and one green, as well as dark skin with vitiligo. They love wearing flowy outfits bright coloured lipsticks.

Professor Mei Liao, Alchemy           A half-blood Slytherin witch, Professor Liao is quite nice and can be strict, but only to troublemakers. She is fair and treats people from all houses equally. She has long black hair in a braid down her back and very dark eyes.

Professor Katarina Odette, Ghoul Studies and Ancient Studies          Professor Odette is a very young female gothic teacher who talks in a monotone voice. She wears dramatic black garments and teaches her classes in the dungeons.

Professor Embra Sionis, Art             Strict and unforgiving, Professor Sionis will award amazing inspiring original pieces a passing grade if it goes against her explicit instruction. She wants students to do art exactly how she tells them to and does not forgive mistakes. Even the most talented students struggle to be awarded anything over a passing grade from her.

Professor Ty Wan, Muggle Art           Hufflepuff’s resident gay icon, Professor Wan is the more relaxed of the art teachers. While he’s extremely knowledgeable and talented in his craft, his more unorthodox classroom style and dry humor are what he’s best known for by his students.

Professor Darren Kelly, Music and Muggle Music            A retired musician and shopowner in Hogsmeade, Professor Kelly comes up to teach the music classes at Hogwarts. His passion for music in all its forms overrides the more traditional by-the-book style other teachers prefer.

Hey! I saw that the writing process started and i have two questions. Firstly do you need or want any more people to join the project and if so i wan to join but i can only join only after a month or so will you still be able to add people to the project then? Thanks love you ❤️

we always need people to join!!! the more the merrier!! we started on the first book, but all the other books are still not started, also we dont have enough people, so yes absolutely please join, and you can still join b1 late or any of the other books!! anyone is always welcome

if you have any more questions you can dm this blog, send in another ask, or ask on the server!!

We’re starting!!!

We have now started the writing process of the first book!!

The team has mostly come together and have had discussions about the book. The writers will start writing any scenes they like from the outline they have been given, which will then be looked over by the teams betas and discussed to fit things together and see how they’re going to go forward. All overseen by the team manager.

We’re very happy to finally be able to start actually writing and hope to more forward without as many difficulties from now.

If you want to be closer to the action, join our discord server and if you want to sign up as a writer or beta reader, dm this blog or text the server.

hi! i wanna ask, can people still join?

Yessss!!

You can join the server and text there if you’re interested in working on the project or dm this blog. we have filled up the positions for b1 already, but we will have to replace anyone who doesnt show up and there are still a lot of positions left on the other books.

Hi there!

Just wanted to ask when you’d be reaching out to those who applied to help write the series and if you would be reaching out to those you don’t select.

So excited to see this all come together!! 💜💜💜

hi!

I’m assuming this was sent in before we posted the teams, at this point we don’t have any more applications than free spots (quite the opposite actually) so everyone who applied got on the teams.

For the first book we have all spots filled and are just waiting for everyone to join the discord server so we can already start writing!!!

for anyone still missing, please join the discord server or if you already joined tell us so we can add you to the team!!

(everyone still missing from b1 under the cut)

for everyone on this list, please join the server by the end of this month. If you know anyone on the list, please inform them.

If we don’t get everyone from the list to join by the end of this month we have to replace them and hope that they will be joining us for one of the other books.

when can we apply to be a writer for the series?

We had applications open over a form a month ago, which is now closed again, but you can always apply over dms here or on discord!!

I've done a ton of research for my own Marauders series. It isn't complete, but I'd love to share that. I plan to make a lot of it into posts for NANOWRIMO, but I could directly send it to your people as well?

Avatar

Yes please do that would be awesome!!!

We will most likely not be able to incorporate everything into our series but the more resources we have the better!!

What time commitment are you looking for from writers? I'd like to apply but don't have heaps of time.

We’re planning to have around 30 chapters for every book, so with 10 writers that would be on average three chapters that have to be written per writer. But obviously writing isn’t the only time investment you would be making.

The entire team of a book will have to figure out the plot (the managers have made outlines, but they aren’t always chapter by chapter or completed, so some of the plot might have to be filled in and there is room for creative input) and figure out coordination.

Those should not take too much time off everyone and we are counting on there being enough people who are more active and have more time to balance out anyone who might not be able to give as much of theirs.

In the beginning it might be helpful if you were online every few days and read back (at least your mentions) so you dont miss anything important. Later, depending on how your team is coordinated you will probably be able to be less active.

You will not be required to read any of the other chapters, we have beta readers to make sure the plot is cohesive across chapters. And you will be able to say that you don’t have enough time to write three chapters, since there will be others with more time to make up for that. And it can be more or less than 30 chapters in the end. (Also depending on your team you might only write parts of chapters or random scenes and it’ll be put together later or you might write complete chapters)

TLDR

For writers the time commitment would probably come down to being online every few days to read the important things and give some input and writing more or less three chapters. You won’t have to read everything the others write, we have betas for that.

Hi! I stumbled on your post “new quarantine project” and saw “Jame” and “Indian” in the same sentence and I thought : Wouldn’t the marauders make a prank about snake charming the Slytherins?

Avatar

Hey, I don’t want to call you out or anything, but as someone on the server put it “As a Slytherin and an Indian, I think it's stereotypically offensive (quite similar to Nagini being revealed as an Asian woman)”

@accio has a post about trans inclusive dorm situations that includes gender neutral / genderless dorms, which could be an idea to incorporate into the books: /post/161408338713/when-she-was-sorted-into-gryffindor-she-was

hi thank you for this ask!! Sorry for taking so long to get to it.

I checked out the post you mentioned and even though that is a great solution it portrays being nonbinary as some kind of third option instead of an umbrella for a vast number of identities and experiences that cant be summed up that easily, so some might not feel like this solution is suitable to them.

We have talked about the dorm situation on the server a bit and have come to a different solution, in which the Gryffindor students being sorted into dorms of 4-5 students each for first and second year and afterwards getting to choose their dorm formations (without the dorm-sizes changing); the Slytherins have a very similar arrangement, except you can choose to have walls around your area for people who prefer a little quiet; the Ravenclaw dorms are smaller with 2-3 students per dorm; and the Hufflepuff dorms are flexible to fit the students’ needs, so they have free choice from the moment they arrive. For any of the houses students can appeal to their Head of House for different arrangements if they for example want to have a nonbinary dorm or have trouble sleeping around others etc.

We find this to be a solution that allows the students more freedom in their experience at Hogwarts and trans students to express their identities while still having the option to stay in a dorm with their friends and not having to come out to anyone just to stay in the correct dorm.

If you or anyone else has anymore critique, questions, or hcs youre welcome to send an ask or start a discussion on the server!!

excited to see the writing teams and happy to get to work! i’ve just joined the discord and wanted to ask if there’s anything else we need to do in preparation? also what is your discord name?

Avatar

it’s super exciting!! once you’re added into the chat for your book, you can start talking with the manager and other betas/writers about what kind of writing schedule works for you- plus we’ll share the outline for your book, so you can see what ideas are already there to work off of and where there’s room for new ideas :) my discord name is ryn, it’s so cool to be meeting you all!

Writing Teams!!!!

We have made a list of the teams for now!!

I’m sorry for everyone who didn’t get in their preferred book, we wanted to fill up the positions for the first book first. And if you signed up for both writing and beta-reading you will still have an opportunity to get in your preferred team!! And if we don’t find enough new people for future books, you could apply again!

For anyone who hasn’t already, please join the discord server, the project is organized from there. If there are any troubles you can always DM me!! If you are on a team on the server but not listed here, don’t worry, you’re still on the team. If you have been assigned a team (not on the server) and aren’t on this list, please DM me again.

meet the project managers!

we have a fantastic team assembled for this series, and it’s finally time to hear a little about a few of them! each and every one of us is dedicated to creating the books this community deserves, and I hope you’ll stick with us through this seven-book journey :)

Hi! I'm Richa, your designated Gryffindor stereotype. I'm 18 and I'm in charge of managing Book One of the series, as well as the character arcs for James (my favourite character!!) and McGonagall. I'm Indian and my pronouns are they/them. What I love most about the marauders is their friendship and how they'd do anything for each other, how they lived their lives raising hell wherever they went, how they're so different from each other and yet so similar, how they're the epitome of loyalty and chaos. I love their story, and so I'm really excited to be working on this project with so many creative people and I can't wait to see how it turns out! I'll be active on the Discord server and I’m TRYING to be more active on Tumblr (@imadiamond) too but lets be real I’m failing so don't hesitate to connect, I'd love that! :)

Hello, I’m Chloe (she/her and @nerds-escape), I’m 18, a Ravenclaw, I’m going to be double majoring in Anthropology and Criminology, and I’m the manager for Book Three! I’m great at projecting onto Dorcas (and Peter) whomst I am in charge of! While the original stories are interesting, there is something to be said about the Marauders and their friendships; we know virtually nothing about them, and it’s fun that the Marauders got to have a little more of a “teenage typical” view of the world growing up than Harry did. I’m always looking to get into projects, especially ones with lasting impressions. I had just finished working on the Marauder’s Pride Fanzine and figured I had room for another project, so I offered my help. We have come up with some amazing ideas so far and I’m super excited to see how the project ends up!

Hi, I’m Raina (she/her)! I’m the head of Book Four, and I’m managing Snape and Marlene’s character arcs. I’m a 19 year old English major and an aspiring novelist. I love to read, write, and draw, and I always find something to fangirl over. Harry Potter’s been a major obsession of mine for basically my entire life and I’m so excited to work on this project together. I’m active on the Discord server (raina//raincoat) and my tumblr is @yellowraincoat. Feel free to reach out and interact!

hey there, im aj (but you can also call me alex). my pronouns are they/them and i'm the co-manager of books 3 and 5. i've adored the marauders era and always have read fanfics (since jkr ever-so-nicely didn't write an official series for them), so the fact that im now part of a project which basically will talk bout the marauders during their school years is kinda cool, if im being honest and i cant wait to see how this goes!

I'm Toni (they/them), I’m in charge of Book 6 and the character arcs for Lily and Petunia. I also run the discord server (I’m Toni on there as well). My tumblr is @toni-d-b and it’s very chaotic (I’m sorry). I’m German, so I have a different time zone than most (I’m in UTC+1) and english is my second language, but it’ll be ok, I’m bilingual at this point and sleep is a lie. I will however remind all americans of the absurdity of everything about america at any chance I get. What I think I love the most about this fandom is that it is one at all. In the sense that we took little bits and pieces and built an era around them. There were mentions of people and now they are fully fleshed out characters and I just think that’s very neat of us to do that. That is also the reason I want to be part of this project and maybe to give back to this community I found.

hello, I’m ryn! I launched this project in august, and I run this blog and organize the tiers. I started this series because I wanted to find a place for myself and others in the harry potter stories again. the marauders are characters with so much potential, and the way fandom has shaped them is so loving and meaningful. I’ve always wanted more canon content for them, but I know now that our versions of them are better than anything that could come from the original author. bringing our community closer together through a project like this feels like the best possible way to connect again in one of the most isolating times many of us have experienced. I’m so happy to be working with all these incredible people, their introduction was long overdue and they can’t get enough credit for the fantastic work they’ve been putting in over the past few months. we’re going to bring you an amazing series, and I can’t wait to bring more passionate creators in as we launch production next month <3
