OH, WHY DOES HE EVEN BOTHER  ?

Of course Owain would come up with something like that -- his endless breaths are devoted to beautiful words and complex presentation. Words just came naturally to Owain, and even when they were hard to understand and ridiculous sounding, there was something about it that made the whole mystery of it . . . charming.

        Un - be - lieve - a - bly, charming.

            Something he’s easily jealous of when he’s so  ‘ forward ’  and  ‘ vague ’ and -- and  -- !

❝ Mmmhm. That sounds . . a lot better. ❞ And it honestly, truly did. The gradiose that Owain insisted on sounded so beautiful coming from his lips. The deepening of his voice and the full control and confidence behind it could make any woman’s heart skip a beat. Still, no one else could see that in Owain. He was too . . theatrical. Strange. Different. At least with that, Inigo could be confident he wouldn’t steal his next date.

That sounded so selfish to say.

❝ All of these are pretty much the same, so I doubt someone as . . gifted in speech as you are has enough time for them, but thanks anyway. I’ll definitely think about your words and how wonderful they are and use them to their full advantage. ❞

Could you be anymore bitter, Inigo  ?

Henry laughs and takes a seat next to Inigo. “I didn’t mean to scare ya so much kiddo. What’s go you so lost in your thoughts?” He asks. “If you don’t mind me askin’.” It wasn’t good for someone to go get lost in their head. Especially in the middle of enemy territory. He is concerned for the boy. Even if they are close to the same age… he just feels protective of him. Very protective.

HESITANT AS HE MAY BE,    Inigo can’t just ignore him now. An awkward situation is never just going to go away by ignoring it. Though, could he really be upset if things turned sour  ? He’s the one who quite literally appeared out of thin air and declared to be his son.

Timing was just off. All of his excitement got ahead of him in the Shepherd’s arrival while he should have just been grateful to find some backup. Take more time to view the situation -- think about what to say.

He never really was good at that.

Image

Conflicted, he rests his elbow on a knee and catches his chin in the palm of his hand with a sigh. Where does he even start  ?

❝ Nothing. It’s truly nothing important, you needn’t worry. I’m merely taking it all in. You know, the sunsets and the grass. ❞

At Inigo’s outburst, Celica paused. Her amber eyes widened slightly and she watched his face turn red with a flush. Her own cheeks dusted in pink– it was hard not to when he was so flustered. While she knew that Inigo was a friend, it was hard to miss his embarrassment.
Maybe he thought she was pretty. People had thought so before. But any feelings he might have were based on fantasy… at least that was what Celica assumed. Because this was her second assumed identity. She doubted he had even heard of the name ‘Anthiese.’
Celica smiled, a strained expression that held conflicted sympathy, relief, and apprehension for what she was going to face.
Not having to face it alone was… appealing.
“Alright…” Celica said, nodding slightly. She tried to swallow back her guilt. Inigo wanted to come. He insisted. “Alright, you can come, but… I have to leave today. Can you gather your things in time?”
It might be easier to face Mila if she had a friend.

SHE’S A WONDERFUL WOMAN   to not embarrass him further, as most other women would have taken advantage of his vulnerability to make him feel worse or to harass him further. Celica, of course, was nothing like that. Mae would have tormented him relentlessly, though she only meant well. It was just . . . nice to not have to be tongue tied any more than he already was.

Devoted to her, what a stupid thing to say, Inigo.

Still, her prolonged acceptance for his company has his smile back in an instant. Whether he felt pushy or not, this was for her. She needed to be able to feel safe, too. Nobody else would take his word for his unmatched skill, but he knew he was more than capable of accompanying her for something so ‘ dangerous ’. Truthfully, it sounded like fun. He admittedly missed the thrill of danger.

❝ I’ve nothing else but the clothes on my back and the sword on my belt, my lady. I am ready to go whenever you should feel ready yourself. I’ve traveled with much less than this before. I’m willing to put together a travel package for us. ❞ He may be getting ahead of himself a little, but Inigo is a dedicated if not dangerously loyal in all aspects. The last thing he needed was to go with her and she end up dead from having no water for days.

Or . . however long the trip was.

      Unimportant.

❝ Just say the word, my lady, and we’ll be off. ❞

HER HEART IS STILL RACING after near impact, soft coral tresses whipping about as she continues to bow repeatedly, frantic apologies tumbling from trembling lips. Even if nothing had happened, that didn’t change the fact that something could have — and it would’ve been all her fault. ( yet again!! ) However, the other retainer’s ease at the situation…it does make her feel a tiny bit better. A single icy hue slowly cracks open to peek at his face, and the smile that’s present eases her even further, a sheepish grin of her own slowly forming.

❝ E-Everything’s fine, Laslow…thank you.His concern is endearing, but unnecessary. She’s used to having bad days, after all — she gets yelled at and berated for her mistakes frequently enough, that much is for certain. A cup of tea would be nice, but…um…Delicate fingers fidget with the frilled edges of her dress. I couldn’t possibly impose — and besides, I still have so many chores to finish.

HER EMBARRASSMENT IS STILL   clear on her face. Laslow knows he could assure her one hundred times over and it still wouldn’t be completely alright. The poor girl has had her confidence shattered so many times over, it isn’t a wonder as to why she’s always so hesitant and worried. Felicia wasn’t completely useless -- if that were the case, she wouldn’t be around the castle in the first place. Maidly duties were surely something to be left desired but she was always improving in little ways.

It wasn’t her fault she was forced into this life.

He just wishes more people would remember that. Felicia wasn’t her sister, and thus being held to a higher standard just wasn’t fair to her. Felicia was her own person, and not to be held in Flora’s shadow.

Alas, he would be preaching to the choir at that point.

Image

❝ Nonsense. SIt. ❞ It’s the very least he could do for her, if she would let him. Laslow knows all too well how it feels to be on everyone’s list of incapable people. Given his position, one would think he would be more respected and yet . . .

Well, that was his own fault.

❝ I’ll help you with them. But you need a break, too. ❞

i’m js y’all this is the year 2019 in the name of grima, if y’all are still sending anon hate to people you need to go back to fuckin’ preschool. we ain’t got time for this childish bullshit from y’all nasty ass garbage people.

if you send anon hate, you’re garbage.

if you send anon hate, you’re a damn coward.

if you send anon hate, you don’t deserve to be around other people since you clearly have no clue how to fuckin’ respect other people and just turn away and mind your damn business when you don’t like someone.

so whoever sent it ( not to me ), rethink your life and your choices. no one likes a person who tells other people to kill themselves, and if you can’t come off of anon to say it face to face, then just don’t send it at all.

                     bitch.

He was right, if Mae or Boey knew she was trying to leave Novis by herself, they’d both throw fits. Then they’d bicker over which one of them would go with her, until they lost their breaths from arguing and agreed to tie her to either tie her to a chair to keep her here, or follow long behind her.
She loved her friends dearly… but she didn’t want them involved. She didn’t want them to be burdened with her station, her fate. Her dreams.
“I… I can’t ask that of you, Inigo,” she told him. Even if he was right, and she’d need the help. If he understood, if he knew who she really was–
No.
She couldn’t be found again.
She couldn’t erase herself from another place she had learned to call home.
Celica gulped.
“I have to go to the Temple of Mila. To… try and fix the famine,” she said. It was the truth, and while it left out certain other details, it was still the most important part of why she was trying to leave. The land was dying. Her land, now. She was the only one left to inherit.
“It’s going to be dangerous and long and… I don’t know if I’ll even come back to Novis,” she admitted. “I am called elsewhere, and I can’t ask you to give up your life here just to help me.”

       HA . . . IF ONLY SHE KNEW . . .

He’d given up his life many times before -- in far more dangerous ways. Yet, he knows that spewing it all out to her perhaps would only make her more insistent on him staying. Her heart was too golden to make a man with a life of heartache bear another treacherous journey that could take his life. Perhaps he deserved to relax in all good conscience.

But where’s the fun in that  ?

❝ You’re not asking me. I’m offering to come with you. If nothing else, you’ll simply go mad on that long journey with no one to talk to. ❞ He’s prideful to make a joke out of the situation, even if she doesn’t laugh at his dull wit,  ❝ I’ve no roots here, my lady, you know that. Mercenaries don’t stay in one place for too long, but . . I’m devoted to you. ❞ He stops his sentence, and his cheeks already flush red from his sloppy wording.

❝ I --- I mean in terms of companionship ! No ! Haha, no, no, I -- I more meant in the ways of how one man protects a woman. Not to say you need protecting, my lady, you’re a fine swordswoman and most capable, yet if I were honest, you could use a little brush up. What I mean to say is -- ack -- take me with you  ! I’m a great asset for journeys and you’ll find me quite skilled in anything you throw at me.❞

𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 ,  𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 .   lucina could still remember standing on the parapets ,  watching for her father to come home .   and then when he would return ,  limping and newly bruised ,  but smiling nonetheless ,  he’d ask her if she had watched for him  –  until the day that it wasn’t him who had returned ,  but a nameless soldier with falchion in his grips .   she had cried into inigo’s neck all night ,  then pushed him away come morning .
even with all of her apologies and heated words ,  he had stood by her .   then ,  she had thought it was only because frederick would have expected as much from him ,  and she was an exalt  –  there was no need for him to hover .   on sleepless nights ,  wondering where in the world her knight could be ,  she would wonder  –  if his duty were something else ,  would he have still kept by her side ?
she wondered even more now that his father was alive and watching .
❛     perhaps …   you’re right .   but if we don’t defeat grima ,  then all of this will have been for naught …  any moment that i’m not helping feels as if it’s a moment wasted .   then ,  other things go to waste ,  too .   mother bought severa and i dresses several towns back ,  and this is the first time i’ve worn mine .   what do you think ?     ❜
Image
the words came out girlish ,  tinted with embarrassment as she steps away for the moment ,  allowing inigo a full view of it .   the cloth had been dyed the royal blue and trimmed with gold ,  and the silhouette was kept simple ,  wrapped around her body and tied with a small belt ;  the sleeves were the focal point ,  long and billowy and falling beyond her finger tips .
❛     that’s sweet of you ,  inigo ,  but you can’t waste your stipend on me .   soldiers have to survive on so little already …   i’m …   i’m truly just happy that you could join me .   it must seem strange for me to say .   after coming back to the past ,  and separating from you for so long …   i could truly feel the ghost of your presence at my side .   it was as if i had misplaced my sword .

HE REMEMBERED THE NIGHT   that Chrom didn’t return home. Not long after his own father has fallen to the grips of the new world order. The flame, the backlash, the riots . . while he was a young boy himself, the memory never failed to remind him of when the world was nothing more than ashes in his fingertips -- akin to the campfire that kept them warm at night. The endless coughing fits that Brady would eventually have to remedy. They were getting sick, but who could stop to rest

Resting only meant death to them. They could rest when they were dead.

Yet here . . . they could rest and rest assured. They were forced to, more or less. It was amusing -- children outraged that they have to go have a good time instead of brandishing their blades like they have been all their lives.

         It’s truly silly.

So he completely understands her worries. They’d only come here for one purpose -- but they still couldn’t be too hasty. One wrong move and they’re already back to square one. There were too many variables, but it was best to let their parents take their children’s knowledge, and plant it in their efforts. It was already going better than expected.

But nothing could have prepared him for Lucina actually asking him how she looked. Usually, he would give that opinion all on his own, but she seemed eager to ask -- and he was just as eager to give.

❝ It’s lovely. ❞ Simple. For if he’s allowed to go on for too long, this outing will cease to continue,  ❝ But I insist. I’d very much like to treat you to a night of your own delight. Just you and me, after so long. I have a lot to catch up on with you after two years. I must need to renew my oath by now, eh  ?  ❞

✥ | “Oh, thank you!” She happily accepts the cup of coffee, smiling as he offered her a cup of java, seeing how he got how much sugar and milk she always preffered it. (Cream would also be just as nice, but this will suffice! She’d never take it black.) Megan could somewhat see that he’s doing his best to stay awake, despite working at the dawn hours of this morning.
“And those invisible invaders can be quite the handful to deal with.” Not fun, either. It’s a relief that nothing bad happened the night before, lest the camp gets stirred in either a panic, or even an all nighter of fighting enemy forces. That wouldn’t be good for anyone!
Megan sips her cup, lips still curved up in a smile as she’s satisfied with the taste. “It’s a whole different view than by just looking through a glass window.” The princess responds, referring to her days of living in Nohr’s tower throughout her years growing up. “Much different.”

“Ah, I don’t really mind it! I’m just glad that we could chat normally like this. And well…not during a battle.” Even if they were once foes due to a misunderstanding, she’s happy to be able to have everyone finally believe in her, as well as trust this girl. “Hah, the only experience of romance I have is reading novels in the library. Though…I don’t think stargazing in general is ‘tacky’ as you say. It may sound a little cheesy coming from me, but I’d like to do that once this war is over…and perhaps there’ll be shooting stars and comets!”

HE KNOWS EXACTLY   what she means about those troublesome Risen --- er, Faceless. They’re Faceless here. Regardless, he knew just how troublesome and outright annoying they could be, especially in swarms, and being outnumbered was not how you wanted to be against them. Their forces could ambush and overwhelm even the best warrior with nary an issue. He’s been saved by the sheer luck of other’s aide many times before.

He can just be glad she’s come back safely.

Image

❝ Haha, I can only imagine how much clearer the world must seem in person. ❞ He can just hope that her young life can be spared the heartache of it all. The path she’s chosen . . the one most difficult, but yet her family stays whole.  Laslow only wishes such a chance could have come to him in his past. Alas, there’s no changing it now.

❝ Shooting stars and comets  ? I can’t say I’ve personally ever seen one for myself, so I suppose we can hope for the both of us to see one. Don’t they say you’re supposed to make a wish on those  ? Come on, let ol’ Laslow in --- what would you wish for
