okay oof, I read the notes and I'm royally confused
I come from ffnet where constructive criticism was the norm, and I didn't follow the great migration to ao3 as my fandom was still thriving in ffnet.
and the past few years that I have been to ao3 I see things like:
"constructive criticism is bad" and honestly I need someone to explain to me what they really mean with that term because I haven't gotten the new memo and I still live in the ffnet lalaland where con crit simply meant:
"oh good job, maybe try to make your paragraphs smaller to be easier to read."
"i liked the story, but haha you misspelled this word and it's funny"
"I enjoyed this chapter but have in mind this is not how [add niche thing here] works, I have an expertise on the matter and if you like to discuss it send me a message"
etc it was all done in good faith and always only applied to such things.
but from the notes I get that some use con crit to mean
"omg how dare you write my fav like that, change it!"
"that fanon of yours sucks, delete"
when the fuck did that happened?
no wonder nobody comments on fics any more
because of course authors would hate that!
