Mad Dog and Puppy headcanon

So by now most Kyouhaba fans are familiar with the canon light novel story centered on Kyoutani and Yahaba, where they’re both big gay dorks and the mutual pining was unreal and they ALMOST adopt a Shiba Inu puppy, right?

Posting the illustration, just because.

Towards the end of the story, Yahaba and Kyoutani successfully manage to find someone to take the puppy in. The lady worked at a vet hospital, so the puppy was sure to be safe and taken care of. When they finally go back to school, they find another stray animal, a kitten, and that’s where the story leaves off. But it’s outright stated in the narration that the boys took their sweet time arguing/flirting/deciding what to do with the kitty, and that they’re a long way off from returning to the gym for volleyball practice.

So I was thinking, what if they decided to take the kitten to the same veterinary hospital that the puppy was brought to? Remember they were given fliers by the lady, so they should know the name and address. And what if when they get there, Kyoutani sees the puppy again, and this time actually gets so attached and thus resolves to adopt it as soon as he gets permission from his parents and the puppy was ready for adoption? Remember that Kyoutani was sulking and seemed pretty distraught when the puppy was taken from them the first time. In my headcanon, he won’t want to let the puppy go again, lol.

That’s a grown Shiba Inu by his side. I hc that this pic occurs sometime in the future, probably during his third year, so the doggy should be several months to a year old. I also hc that by this time, Kyoutani and Yahaba should be pretty close friends, but this is the first time that Kyoutani actually invites Yahaba to his home (he’s new at this whole friendship thing, okay? Anyway, Yahaba’s actually the first person he’s ever invited at all, so it says a lot and is still a big deal) and guess who’s there waiting when they arrive? The doggy, of course! So we get a little happy reunion! Afterwards, when everyone’s calmed down and the doggy is dozing off, Yahaba asks Kyoutani why he never mentioned adopting the dog, and Kyoutani just kinda shrugs saying, “Just never came up. We never really talked about that day again,” which is sooo Kyoutani and the probably-won’t-talk-about-this-again-in-the-future thing was also implied in the story anyway, lol.

So there’s my little headcanon contribution to the Kyouhaba fandom. XD

Numb Our Minds chapter nine

His father doesn’t say anything else once the dinner is served and Shigeru is almost grateful no one seems to want to talk. However, he can tell the air around the dining room is thick with awkward energy, and he catches his mother looking at him with pursed lips from across the way. Shigeru’s hand under the table curls into his pants and he holds onto it to keep it from scratching at his arms. He notices Kyoutani glance down between them at his hand, but is glad when he turns back to his plate without a word.

I’ve recommended this fic in the huge-ass Kyouhaba fanfic rec post I’ve made a while ago. It was only on its third chapter then, but it’s currently in its tenth chapter, and lemme tell you guys, I’m not kidding that this is one of the best Kyouhaba fics around right now. Great premise (Soulmate AU with the TiMER device as a literal plot device, haha), the characterizations are brilliant, the relationship progression is realistic, character psychology and motivations are well-explained and justified (well, except for the bigoted characters), intimate scenes are scorching HOT HOT HOT.

It’s still a work in progress, but the author updates in a consistent manner, so I feel comfortable recommending this even for people who are averse to WIPs for various reasons. Please give it a shot if you’re a fan of this pairing. It’s so damn worth it.
