Runaways AU snippet please.

Inko doesn’t know what she’s doing out here, but she’s started going for long walks after the rain. Something about how it makes all the grass and trees greener soothes that deep ache in her heart, even if it’s only a little.

She ignores the distant cheering of some kind of Hero fight. Petrichor, at least, doesn’t remind her of broken promises.

The underpass is quiet. Of course it is. No one has any reason to take this small out-of-the-way path. Not anymore. Not since Izuku graduated from Junior High. This place barely gets any foot traffic at all. So when the manhole cover suddenly turns, it’s impossible to ignore.

Nothing on earth could prepare Inko for the sight of a small girl who couldn’t be older than five climbing up to the surface, turning around, and helping another child up.

“Is anyone nearby?” says the second child, and Inko’s heart stops. No, she must have misheard. Surely.

That denial dies when the second child rises into the light beside the girl. She would know him anywhere. It’s impossible for her not to know him. But it can’t possibly be.

“You live around here?” the girl says. The boy nods.

“Yeah. Remember what I said, though. There’re Heroes around here, so we’ll have to be care…ful…” he trails off as he meets her eyes.

No imposter could ever recreate the exact expression Izuku makes when he knows he’s caught.

Oh man Midoriya lost his arms. Sure would be a shame if, I dunno, it was established that post-singularity bodies can grow infinite body parts or something.

Also the reveal that AFO encouraged Kotaro to have a second (younger and more groomable) child so he could give that child Decay is fine, but it does once again raise the question of why the fuck AFO ever let Shigaraki leave the house. Like. Buddy. He got fucking shot at the USJ.

Avatar
popopoyotl

Imagine if a stray bullet killed Shigaraki. Or Midoriya accidently hit him with 100%.

Hell, Stain had knives to Shigaraki's neck. One twist and there goes AFO's plans. What, could AFO not see what was happening through the TV?

Something that I think is funny is how sometimes fics will have Bakugou referred to as "the boy who killed All Might" and, sure, people can connect Bakugou's kidnapping to the Kamino fight and thus All Might's retirement, but the news helicopters come in after Midoriya and co. get Bakugou out of there.

Instead, the public sees All Might tank the hit for that civilian, "the last person All Might saved", but that is hardly ever brought up. Hell, I can't actually remember if anyone actually blames Bakugou in-universe for All Might's retirement (aside from Bakugou himself of course).

Monoma does.

It's what he says that causes Midoriya to activate Blackwhip for the first time

How the hell did I completely forget about that. Shit.

my friend left her window open in her bedroom and came back to find this

look at his self-satisfied little face, the cheeky shit

motherfucking australia

if there was a post to describe australia, this is it

wait.

you mean to tell me this isn’t even a pet bird?

that in australia, you have wild birds that just fly from house to house with the express purpose of fucking shit up?

fucking HELL australia, what is wrong with you?

wake up australia

That’s what birds do

They fly around and fuck shit up

Do you have some kind of mysterious nice birds in your weird foreign country

Do birds in America and England fly into your house and make the bed and tidy up the living room a little bit

It’s cold here, so they just bounce off the windows and lie there and twitch spasmodically while you look for the shovel.

Basically hurling themselves at windows is the worst thing birds do

yeah man a kookaburra literally flew into a classroom at my high school and just sat his smug ass down on top of the desk for a good 20 minutes

why has nobody mentioned the fact that in australia there are 3-4 months a year where everybody just accepts that they’re going to get attacked by magpies. It is literally called “swooping season” and these birds will fly down to peck your fucking face, and people get their eyes ripped out and shit, it’s fucking brutal.

My teacher had to go to hospital and have surgery because of swooping season. It was in the parking lot of school and all the kids would do a mad dash towards the car as the magpies tried to kill us.

no but when you’re 12 years old and riding your bike like mad on the way home from school with an icecream bucket on your head with like branches and shit sticking out if it to scare them off and none of this is considered strange

what the actual fuck australia

Avatar
priscellie

I am pretty sure all of these Australia stories are a massive, globally-spanning trolling effort, and only the people who have visited the country are allowed to be in on the joke.

Nope.

Went there.

Parrots tried to take our car.

Came home IN A FUCKING HURRY.

Interesting thing about magpies - they’re not great at identifying individual humans visually, but if you make yourself identifiable in some way they’re usually open to reason. We used to have some very aggressive swoopers in our back yard - as soon as they realised that the humans *inside* the fence never bothered them and were the source of the delicious compost heap, they turned into flying black and white guard dogs who would viciously assault any passing stranger but never bothered anyone inside the yard. Several times they swooped at us when we approached from outside, then when we walked into the yard they would pull up and act incredibly apologetic like sorry ma’am I had no idea it was you I would never please don’t stop stocking the food pile.

There was another little group of magpies in the park who would attack any solo pedestrian but never bothered anyone walking a dog or pushing a pram, because apparently those were identifiable traits indicating a non-threatening human. In the spirit of inquiry, I started going out of my way to be polite to the magpies - carefully walking a wide arc around them when they were on the ground, etc - and emitting an identifiable call of ‘hello birdie’ before swooping season started.

I spent the next ten years crossing that park at least once a day and as long as I turned at the first flutter of wings and said ‘hello birdie’ to the magpie waiting to attack as soon as my back was turned, I was fine. Every time, the magpie would stare at me for a minute and then fly off to harass some other pedestrian because apparently the magpies and I, we were cool.

Parrots are a lot less open to negotiation, and the little bastards travel in flocks. Beware the parrots.

Australia: the only country where it is necessary to sign a peace treaty with the birds in order to stay unmangled.

They lost a war against emus. The the magpie stories are unsurprising.

what… what happened with the emus

Saiyan AU: I think it would be truly amazing if Gran Torino knew the mafuba and was the one who put Demon King Piccolo back in the rice cooker.

Avatar

I think that would kill him and I refuse to let Gran Torino die. He simply cannot. Local man to spiteful to die.

Gran Torino replaced his blood with piss and vinegar decades ago. Death doesn’t want him.

He also imbued some of that into his costume. Look at how much punishment his cape took before it finally bit the dust.

I always got the distinct impression that Midoriya punching Todoroki in the gut (with a broken hand) was the very first time he successfully restrained the power output of One for All on his own.

Which is an incredible risk.

Avatar

I don't even know if he was using OFA since he was unleashing it at full power for the flicks!

Avatar

In the anime, at least, he was definitely using OFA there.

Whispered his “Imagine the microwave” thing right before ramming his fist straight into his classmate’s gut.

Avatar
popopoyotl

He does the same "imagine the microwave" thing in the manga. So, it was the second time he managed the output on his own. Which is still incredibly risky to do, especially with how much damage he had taken by that point.

The situation could have drastically changed if the output fluctuated at all, ranging from Midoriya accidently knocking Todoroki out of the ring to "oh, Todoroki is dead now".

I'm starting to see AI art in fanart tags and even when they are tagged as AI art, people in the reblogs tagged it as fanart.

Let me just say this once. I don't believe AI art is fanart. The way things are, it's theft. It doesn't count. The effort that fan artists put into their works cannot be equated in value with whatever an AI generates. The works with hours of applied skill and originality and love put into them are the works I want to praise on this blog.

So that being said, if I ever reblog "fanart" that is ai generated, please send me a message or an ask and let me know so I can delete it off my blog.

Honestly, I’m surprised we never saw anything in canon of the HPSC conducting human experiments. They do literally everything else; assassinations, child soldiers, control of bodily autonomy, propaganda, rank based social systems, Tartarus.

They already don’t see villains as human, and it isn’t like anyone would know what the hell happens in that facility.

Avatar

Ah well. That's what us fan writers are for.

(:

Avatar

I suspect it's such a major aspect of both LOV/AFO and then Overhaul that it probably felt redundant

The HPSC would've hired Garaki change my mind

Avatar

That is now what I imagine happening in that rewrite you did a few months ago. While arresting the LoV, the HPSC gave Garaki an offer.

The HPSC try to keep the “Peace” with task force Nomu.

You know what? I'm sure I've got followers who haven't actually read/watched canon MHA. I'm curious to hear from you: what common fandom tropes do you think are real and which ones do you think are made up?

Avatar
leftguard66

I have never read or watched official my hero academia content.

I thought the title “ stalker notebooks” for the hero notes was real but also assumed it was a throwaway line from one of the middle school bullies.

Hawks love of fried chicken sounds like a fandom thing not likely cannon.

Midodoria had to hide his intelligence in middle school to avoid teachers lowering his grade is a fairly common trope but I highly doubt it is even implied in cannon

Aldera middle school is owned by the MLA. This is not canon

Dabi calls the villain with the disintegration quirk (I can’t spell his name)“hand job.” Possibly Canon.

Toga is literally starving if she can’t get blood and that’s why she’s insane, she is literally mad from hunger. This feels like it could be canon.

Dabi and hawks are an item. Not cannon.

Tsu has a crush on Izuku after the USJ but doesn’t act on it because she sees Uraraka’s crush. Not canon, if it was canon they would have far more shippers.

The quirkless discrimination and suicide rates. I highly doubt that things are as bad in cannon as the fandom often describes

Mineta has family in the school board, otherwise he would have been expelled. This feels like a head cannon covering up a plot hole the authors didn’t think about.

UA heroics classes don’t really teach much. I feel like this is not canon due to us not seeing the actual education because education is boring and this is a superhero show/comic, leading to some fans making assumptions.

Eraserhead and president mic being in a secret relationship feels fan made to me.

I can’t think of any more tropes at this time.

Avatar
popopoyotl

“Midodoria had to hide his intelligence in middle school to avoid teachers lowering his grade is a fairly common trope but I highly doubt it is even implied in cannon”

The opposite is actually implied! In the very first chapter, Midoriya’s middle school classmates tell him that good grades alone won’t get him into Heroics, so everyone knows that he is intelligent.

I think some of the misunderstanding about Midoriya comes from Tsu calling him a bit creepy once, but given she willingly hangs out with Habuko, who semi-stalked her and used her quirk on Tsu because she was shy, I don't think she considers creepiness to be inherently bad.

Now I'm getting the image of Tokoyami being part of the Izukrew because of Midoriya also being kinda creepy out of my head.

Avatar

Asui is also far more blunt and direct than others, and given her statements about the Kamino rescue squad, can have extreme opinions.

Avatar
Avatar
popopoyotl

If I remember correctly, I don’t think Asui was calling Midoriya creepy as much as she told him his muttering, where he was going over all the ways their plan could have gone wrong, was scary. Which, I would be a bit unnerved too and would not like to be reminded of how close to death they were.

Who do you think named their Quirk first? AFO or Yoichi?

Avatar

Had to be All For One. Thought it sounded cool, patted himself on the back for 'corrupting' a heroic mantra, called it a day. Chuuni-ass motherfucker.

Also he needed a name before Yoichi did

Well, we got our answer.

It all goes back to that comic book.

So apparently some people new to Tumblr think a repost and a reblog are the same thing, so when they see creators asking for people to not repost, they're thinking the creators are saying to not reblog 😭

Y'all, a repost is when you copy/download the work and create a new post using the work making it seem as if it's yours. A reblog is you using a site provided feature to share the creator's post directly from the creator so that it's still credited to them and they still get all of the traction/notes from the work.

Please, reblog fics/art/etc. that you enjoy! Reblogging is not reposting! Creatives need support too, and reblogging is a way to do that!

Honestly, I just think it would be funny if All for One himself forgot how far back he had acquired some of those Quirks, if only so he could be just as surprised as the heroes when he tries to do one thing but ends up doing another instead.

Because like, logically speaking, he should be rotating between all the Quirks he's ever stolen/given out while he's being rewound, on account of his arsenal of Quirks probably changing a lot over the centuries.

Avatar

That would be so fucking funny

Avatar
Avatar
popopoyotl

It could also be cool to show how Quirks have evolved over time.

All For One tries to use a deadly laser beam Quirk, only to use an older Quirk that is essentially just a laser pointer. What is meant to be a stream of fire comes out as a gust of somewhat hot air.

For all the talk that "Quirks get stronger over generations", we don't really have any good examples of that aside from the Todoroki family. You would think that Iida, coming from a Hero Family, could have been used as an example of that.

"That character has fans? But they're barely in the story!"

And? They're still a part of the story, no? It doesn't matter how big their part is.

Some people could just like that character because of design, their personality, maybe they said a funny line or two, could be how they changed another character, anything!

What, is it illegal for the more minor characters to have fans now?

"Very curious how No Quirks AUs explain Bakugou bullying Midoriya." Didn't he start even before they got quirks, with the helping hand to get him up after a fall? He's just a bully, in a no-Quirk AU Izuku can trigger him by simply having better or equal grades.

Well yes but actually no? He still let Midoriya hang out with him before the log incident, and the big reason he was mean to Midoriya before then was because of how much the teachers talked up Bakugou's Quirk.

Avatar
Avatar
popopoyotl

Yeah, Bakugou was still kind of a jerk before that, as it looks like he came up with "Deku" before either of them got their Quirks, but Midoriya himself says that Bakugou was more full of confidence than anything before he got his Quirk.

Without that value placed on his Quirk, I don't think it would escalate to how Bakugou acts in canon.

(Off topic, but looking at Chapter 9, it looks like all the kids called Bakugou "Kacchan", not just Midoriya. So that is a thing.)

Thinking about how little academia there is My Hero Academia, are after school clubs ever mentioned at all?

Granted considering aldera I doubt Izuku would be a part of one.

School clubs are mentioned! Once! (To my knowledge). On the first day of school, before the Battle Trials, there is a panel of the outside of UA, and a student is recruiting for the Kendo club.

Avatar
Avatar
popopoyotl

Clubs are also mentioned just before the war arc starts; specifically, when Ashido mentions they will have underclassmen soon, Sato points out that hero course students don't have clubs (in the anime, it is "we can't join clubs"), so they won't be able to interact with them much. I guess it makes sense with how they have an extra 7th period for Heroics and that is probably around the time after school clubs start.
